Has anyone ever tried fitting your common rice burner radiator or maybe even a V-Rod radiator to your 1125r. I would love to get rid of my scoops and turn this into a full fairing rc51 eater from hell!!!!! any comments are appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day!!

Yay I'm bored too. I'm with ya bro. If I could throw a nice r1fairing on it I would be really happy. Someone in r&d at buell needed smacked up side of their head. The whole exhaust and radiator locations are jacked. I guess that's what happens when you try to be different.

From what I've read harley had alot to do with this funky ass design. Dont get me wrong I love the bike, the styling not so much.

Curve, you need to do some research into the 1125's design. H-D dictated radiator location. A lot of the articles on Erik and Buell's demise detailed this.

The rads can't be in front of the motor... at full compression, the front tire would grind right through them.

If you look at 1190/1125RR designs, none of the rads are in front of the plane set by the oil cooler at the bottom. And, the upper rads are as much side mounted as anything, but turned so they catch more air instead of having air directed through them as with the pods or DSB-Spec ram-air set up.

Benelli Tornado. Underseat with proper heat shielding.

That, or hand them off the side like a Harley's license plates.

Underseat where the fender eliminator would be should be a good spot.

There is nothing wrong with having the rads on the sides. Honda used this and continuous to use it on their VFR800 and VTR1000 and it works.

Buell designed it this way. The Pods had to be used because H-D did not want Buell to put a full fairing on ANY bike. Buell wanted a full fairing on the XB-R's!

In any case, if you have a tip over it costs $65 to replace a pod. If you have the full fairing it would cost you $500! The Pods do protect the bike in a tip over...I know...my friend tipped my 1125R over (when he owned it) and it was $65 to fix.

I like the pods myself. I also like the Buell Accessories lower fairing. If you can't stand the Pods, put those on. It's easy! LOL! It is also the least expensive lower fairing I have seen.

I bought an 03, R1 radiator a while back for just that purpose.
I think the later R1 and GSXR radiators are a little more curved and slightly narrower though.

Right now...it's just low on the to do list.

I know an engineer in Wisconsin who quit a good job with an American motorcycle manufacturer once . . while scrambling to start his own business he needed money and started doing contract work at night for a major Japanese manufacturer.

He designed an amazing motorcycle, pretty much from the ground up, that had an amazing cooling system that ducted air under the bike, up through the underside of the rear fender and routed it through a radiator mounted under the seat.

The design didn't make the final cut but most the rest of the bike remained intact and continues, to this day, to be one of the firms better selling products.

Nothing like working several jobs to make ends meet. . .

Court, I presume you're speaking of Erik Buell? What bike did he design for a Jap company?

I think the radiator should be a clip on affair that mounts on the back of the rider.

...Geez froggy kinda looks like a P-51!
P-51 radiator

engineers are often tasked with a cost savings effort by getting more than one function out of a component...
put the oil cooler up front between the fork legs under the headlights (like we did back in the 70s) and build the radiator into tail section - design a "turbo" style rear wheel to blow air thru ducts in the swing arm and rear fender thru the radiator...kinda like a Briggs and Straton lawn mower engine but instead of the flywheel/fan combo the rear wheel/pulley/sprocket carrier becomes a "fan"...so who has some free CAD time!!!...good luck - have fun!
