"Free"?

How much machine time, cutting lubricant and end mill did you burn creating that thing?

Man, if you can do all that machine work in just half an hour, well, that's pretty impressive.

It would have taken me dramatically longer.

Just getting the dang thing fixed on the table securely so you had clean access across the top but no chatter would have been tricky...

Not trying to sound rude, but why?

What's the purpose for this? To go with clipons and take out some weight?

Curious minds want to know!

I'd be concerned about the structural integrity. CNCing a billet of high grade is way different than milling weight off a cast (and porous) piece.

i went to clip ons last year... so i hacked off the stock clip on positions..

i also went to a key less ignition last year.. so i hacked off the key slot..

its a track bike...

the structural integrity loss will not be noticeable..since i did not mill into any of the major support lines of the triple tree.... i took off like .05 material of the top of the tree to smooth it out.

and the curves in the milling of the holes allow for the integrity loss to be minimal.. curves are stronger than squared inside edges..

I looked a couple of times at the two and thought you had fabricated a new one. The look is nice and you did a good job of it.

can I see it installed please?

How does the 1125R handle with a top triple clamp that does NOT hold the bars the ~1.75" out in front of the fork tubes? Or, to put it another way, how does the 1125R handle with clip-ons that are closer to the fork tubes versus the stock bars in the stock top triple clamp??

Thanks.

Triple tree or tripleclamp? Did you do the bottom?

Puzzled,
I think you removed to much material from your top clamp. The material in the horizontal plane is there for a reason -- think flanges and I-beams. Opening up a window in the "diaphragm" is one thing, removing almost all of it is courting disaster. Be careful, and watch out for cracks.

>>>Be careful, and watch out for cracks.

I agree. I understand that you are using this for "track only" but be mindful that the top triple clamp was the subject of extensive FEA work and there was not a gram of material on there that was not there for a reason.

Now I understand that you may not put your bikes under near the strain they experience getting certified for sale, but it's still something to at least be aware of.

Or . . . if you are a glutton for punishment we could teach you to do 100 "slap down" wheelies out on Buell Drive.

Just be aware.

From an engineering point of view (Test Engineer is what I do..).

Keep a REAL close eye on your top clamp...as others have said...for cracks.

You've taken material from places that should still be there to keep the forks from moving back and forth (forward and back).
Notice how thick Love's webs are. Even though he removed some material from the top, the material that keeps the forks from forward and aft movement are still sorta there in the thickness.

There's a REAL good reason "triangles" are strong..over straight lines...which are not..!

Mike

Puzzled's bike is a pure drag bike, not a road course bike.
He's a smart guy, so I am sure he put a lot of thought into the work he did. He's going all out with this bike, I am sure he will let on more of his plans as thing start coming together.

The plugs should be cut off the machine tools these folks have unsupervised access to. Danger Wil Robinson Danger! if your that worried about weight cut back on fast food and leave the bike butchering alone.
