I've always used water wetter in track bikes. My local shop only carries engine ice now. Anyone run this on the street? Does it cool batter?

Is Engine Ice Propylene Glycol? If so, here's an old thread where an anonymous poster indicates there's a risk.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/473852.html?1246469102

I have no idea if the anonymous poster has any credibility at all.

Water wetter is available at autozone and others, so try there.

Keep in mind the water pump bearing does not receive any engine oil for lubrication. The coolant provides the lubrication for the bearing, any coolant that does not offer any lubricating qualities, will tear up the bearing, and pump. Might be a good question to ask Erik Buell Racing.

Mack -

The coolant provides lubrication for the bearing....?

Hopefully not...!
The bearing "seal"...yea, the bearing no.

Jdugger,

Engine Ice is Propylene Glycol. What do you use?

Identifying the poster would defeat the purpose of posting anonymously.

Blake owns this place, and knows who the poster is. That should be good enough, don't you think?

It's certainly his right to run the forum as he choses. I wouldn't debate that.

That doesn't necessarily make some anonymous poster who is then "validated" by a 3rd party credible to an outside audience.

Hoot: No. It's not. I don't know Blake personally nor do I have any real interaction with him.

If JD tells me something, I believe him because I've had interaction with him...I've met some other badwebbers and I trust them too.

Whether or not Blake runs this place means nothing to me. I didn't know the guys who "ran" Enron, but no one should have believed them.

I don't believe in anonymous posting. If you're going to say something, say it or keep it to yourself. I see no reason for being anonymous on a motorcycle forum.

That's just how I see it...I could be wrong.

Well, I do know Blake, and I believe him when he says to believe the anonymous poster regarding what kinds of coolant are compatible with the metals in the engine. Especially when the anonymous poster refers everyone to the FSM that specifically calls for a particular kind of coolant.

But, use whatever you want. It's your bike.

"I don't believe in anonymous posting. If you're going to say something, say it or keep it to yourself. I see no reason for being anonymous on a motorcycle forum.

Without anonymous postings we would not have been able to have Erik and the elves actually participate on this forum. There was/is indeed a reason for it which is WHY they are verified by the moderators after the post. More than likely that anonymous statement came from the factory or one of the techs/race team guys who really knows what the hell they are talking about.... or even designed the damned thing.

The way I see it, you don't have to agree with allowing anonymous posts or not, but you should at least appreciate the fact that steps have been taken to ensure that "they" can post here and be validated. Take it or leave it some might say. I don't complain about the color of money so to speak. Anonymous information is credible once validated on BadWeb from my experience.

Hoot: You know Blake, I don't. I also don't know you. See where I'm going with this...

I don't trust some of the people on here because of the opinions they've expressed, and they're blind allegiances. Sorry, but I have an opinion of my own. That's just how I am and I don't feel the need to apologize for it.

EDIT:

Why is that? They can't post up with their real names? Is that illegal...especialy now that they're not under HD??? I don't follow this reasoning at all.

Erik is always candid with us on FB...so is Erik Buell Racing for that matter. Shit, I've seen Erik discuss his choice in beer in one post and answer a question about the X1 in another...

I see where you're going, and I get your point. But you've just walk into Blake's living room so to speak, and told him that not only do you not believe what he says, but you've compared his assertion that the anonymous poster is "in the know" with the criminal activities of Enron's C-level executives. I would never walk into your home and call you a liar.

Then he's free to kick me out of it, Hoot. I see nowhere in the rules where he'd have reason to do that though.

The comparison I made was that sometimes the people who run things have their own motives. I never said Blake had his own motives...did I? No, I didn't.

Stop nut swinging, it's nauseating.

I'm afraid you lost me there.

I simply find that your assertion that the owner of badweb can't be trusted is laughable, that's all.

That's not my assertion at all, at least. It's simply that anonymous posts are from a position no more verifiable or authoritative than anyone else here.

For example, I know of one post specifically where the anonymous poster deliberately refers to anonymous and Erik Buell Racing as "us" which is categorically *NOT* Erik Buell Racing posting.

Are there more? Who knows?

But, anonymous is just that, anonymous. It's often portrayed as an authoritative, in-the-know figure, but there's absolutely no way to verify that.

Thanks for trying Jeff. Some folks will always be intent on their own self-righteous indignation, no matter what truth or common courtesy may otherwise dictate.

Call me silly, but I try to give folks who I don't know the benefit of doubt until they prove unworthy.

JD,

>>> It's simply that anonymous posts are from a position no more verifiable or authoritative than anyone else here.

That is inaccurate. I personally verify them all. I personally vouch for them all. It may be possible that an invalid anony post slips by now and then. It would be very rare though, and not likely of any import.

>>> But, anonymous is just that, anonymous. It's often portrayed as an authoritative, in-the-know figure, but there's absolutely no way to verify that.

Again, that is inaccurate. See above.

If you'd refer me to the anonymous post that you've described, I'll check to see if your opinion has merit in that one specific case.

Why? From my position, your reply, confirmation or not, is still not any more verifiable than were I stand right now.

I didn't mean to pick a fight. Just as I respect this is your house, respect that from an outsider's (my) position, anonymous posts are simply unverifiable.

YOU can verify them, perhaps. I cannot.

Hmmmmm ..... I've interacted with over 4,000 Buell owners in the last 24 years and have known Blake since before there was a Badweb.

I was party to some of the first anonymous posting concerns and recall, in general terms, the criteria that were applied..

I'm good with that.

I read each post, anonymous or not, and ascribe merit on my own grounds.

What works for one may or may not work for another ......

Thirteen years later, who knew we'd be seeing claims on the internet that Buell uses brake disks made of a beryllium (highly toxic) alloy.
