I remember back in highschool, a set of new metzler tires in my bedroom which Santa left for me, fantasizing about when the snow would melt and I'd be able to hit the road again. 16 years later.. some things haven't changed...

And back to the question - well thats tough question that I will have to think about, which is exactly the reason I posted the thread. No better time to daydream about motorcycles than in the dead of winter.

If I didn't have an 1125, I'd get another liter class twin. Either a Ducati 999 or a 1098, as I realistically couldnt justify spending the extra dough for an 1198.

Ducati Monster 1100. Or Guzzi Griso. But either one would be in addition to my naked 650 V-Strom.

I was starting to get real interested in Guzzis but then the fire sale came along, (yes I am fire-sale-trailer-trash) so now I have an awesome 1125 and the Guzzi dreams are back-burnered indefinitely. My high-tech 1125 joined a stable of charismatic carbureted old coots: a 1st-gen Speed Triple, a KTM Duke II, and budget-adventurer KLX 650.

I'd get a Suzuki V-Strom 650. Oh wait, I already have one. : )

As an aside, I already had the Strom when the end came for Buell. I took advantage of the fire sale and bought my CR. I wasn't even looking/in the market for another motorcycle. But, I couldn't pass up the ridiculous price for such a high performance machine. So, I have two bikes.

28 years ago i sold my Kawasaki Z1-B right before moving to Wisconsin. Put over 30K on her.

i first noticed a Buell in 1995 and wanted one back then.

8 months ago i got my first Buell, the 1125r. Today i own 3 Buells.

If Buell had never come along, i doubt i'd be riding again!

I probably already have them in the garage...Hard telling with me though!

I do share an interest in KTM (Super Duke, RC8), Ducati (EVO,Streetfighter, 1098), and Aprilia (RSV, Tuono) too, so maybe one of those would take the place of my 1125R, I also would look real hard at the BMW S1000RR.

I'm in the not-looking/can't-pass-it-up crowd too. And now with 5000 miles experience learning to ride it, minor mods and the machine bedding-in very nicely I'm real real pleased. Other than stator paranoia. (good song title, Mr. Buell?)

A Guzzi Stelvio. And a Rocket III Roadster. and a Sachs MadAss. And a Hayabusa Turbo Sreetfighter. And a Piaggio MP3 500. Oh yeah, and an Aprilia Factory 50 scooter.

Giggle.

I stopped a Moto Guzzi Griso buy when the Buell's were reduced.

I'm back on the market for the Griso. It will set next to the KTM adventure, EH super X, and FJR1300

Since my choice can't be another Buell, the pick for me is easy: Triumph Street Triple R. Matte Orange. So sweet.

if no buell and picking bikes that are actually affordable to me
options would be:
new s1000RR from bmw

bmw GS adventure bike

sportster, save on initial cost and make it fun

or some other awesome Adventure bike, something good for around town or longer distances, luggage etc

No Buells at all...CBR 1100xx Blackbird for the road and an R1 or CBR for in town.

If I couldn't have a Buell....Hmmmm....ZX-10r or maybe an RC-51....or one of the new 600 Gixxers...if I could get and license one...a CCM 400 Cafe' (sophisticated cousin to my crazy mutant Suzuki)...I would love to have a 2011 KTM 125 Duke....and a CBR250r....and a completely tricked out RZ-350....and a Yamaha Cube...and...and...

Probably the BMW S1000RR - Its just such a tight looking bike, German durability, and all the owners I met had perma-grins from ripping up a sets of twisties, and going through tires - lol - must be a nice bike.

BMW S1000RR - in a heartbeat. That S1000RR motor is sweet and low. All of BMW's engineering virtues without the bulk.

It is interesting to see how much a replacement for a Buell is gonna cost.

Suzuki GSXR1000
THE baddest bike on the planet... My previous bike and the one I would fall back on if the Buell wasn't available.
Sorry I miss it sometimes only for high end performance, the Buell takes it for overall street ride ability. The Gixxer got me into trouble on the streets.

Before buying the CR, I was seriously considering a KTM Super Duke but it would of meant spending alot more than I wanted, when I found the CR it was less than half the price so that sealed the deal and allowed some spare cash for customising, I also figured it would be reliable and cheap to maintain, well was wrong on both those points. As my bike has been out of action for 5-6weeks, this week I looked at a 2008 very low mileage 1100 Hypermotard that has come on the market at a great price, if it had been around at the time of the CR then I would of bought the Duc without a doubt. Going to give the Buell another chance as when its running its alot of fun but the reliability issues and long wait time on parts is deffinatley taking it toll on me.

So to answer the question, KTM Super Duke or Ducati Hypermotard, if money was no factor then I would like to have a Ecosse Motto in the collection..

I would have to say either say the KTM1190 rc8r. It has a nice tail section. Comfy on the seat. Fairly decent power to weight ratio. The choppy looks are more my style.
