I recently got into an accident on my 1125CR and the insurance is teetering on totaling the bike.

I was on a website that sold used engines, but I can't seem to locate it anymore. Anyone know of this website?

If the insurance decides to total the bike, I plan on buying it and resurrecting it. Just need the information to get the parts.

I find it very peculiar that the shifter mechanism repair could be a $3700+ repair.

Gotta split the cases to get into the transmission to fix that shift shaft I think. Tech services says it takes about 10.5 hours to get there. That is just for the teardown. Not including parts and reassembly.

One guy here in Texas had something similar happen to his bike from an otherwise minor crash...

Makes me wonder if I should make that shifter a little harder to get to...

I don't think you can get a motor from E.B. Racing with a VIN.

Probably be an ebay search for somebody parting out.

I agree that an engine from Erik Buell Racing would be a great replacement, though an 1190 would be better! If it results in a total, then I will source the parts on Erik Buell Racing, ebay, and Buellster. Those seem to be the best bet for cheap parts.

When you see the price of the 1190 motor set up, you won't be interested in it anymore.

Just get a fresh, stock 1125r mill.

Getting a new engine from Erik Buell Racing would be the way I would go.

I also know someone who purchased a 2009 engine from Erik Buell Racing, for a much more reasonable amount than the $3700 fix you was quoted...I am not sure now, but at the time, Erik Buell Racing also had some 2010 engines available for a bit more than the 2009 engines too.

We're all so callous here. It took 9 postings before someone (danny) bothered to ask if Theeman was alright.

And now that he's done so... on with the insensitivity!

Theeman: Do you have maybe some parts to sell that are maybe ugly but still work?
I'm looking for a throttle assy.

Thank you Dannybuell and Nattyx1 for your concern. For the most part I am alright, just getting over some superficial injuries to the knees. Your thoughts are appreciated, though I have to admit, my sense of invincibility seems to be fading.

Of course the price of an 1190 motor is going to be astronomical, and not practical. That comment was just to toss some kudos for Erik and his ability to keep the dream alive.

No, I got word from the insurance that they will fix the bike. So that means I wont have any spare parts. I am rather glad that they agreed to fix it, since I am about to start on a Triumph chopper project, that I know nothing about. Two projects are harder to handle than one, and it will leave me with one bike to continue to ride.

Not really callous Steve.
I read the post early and I took from the OP's tone, it was minor and he was well.

Guess I'm used to instant bitching that all the damage was due to a design error/flaw.

Hey Thomas - Glad I assumed close to reality.
Heal fast and have fun with the Trumpet project.
Get a set of BS-Whitworth combo wrenches and sockets now.

We really are a caring bunch of nuts here.

Zack : )

Awesome, now I have an excuse to buy even more tools! This goes to tell you how little I know about British Rats. It is a tribute bike to my mentor growing up. He had a Triumph chopper when he was in the Navy.

When I was growing up, making some bad decisions as a teenager, he never lost faith that I was worth trying to turn around. He taught me how to turn wrenches, and how to love things that marked their territory by dripping bits of oil.

Now in his older age, he has fallen into a depression. I am going to build a replica of the one he used to have and invite him down to bike week here in Daytona to present it to him.

Still looking for a basketcase "Trumpet" to transform into his youthful chariot.

That sounds very cool Thomas.
I'd try to get him involved in the project but don't let on until you "present" it to him.
You're a good man.

I sold my last Trump, a basket case 500, to my Optics prof in college.
He was a Brit and I was one of the few in class that could follow his sense of humor.
He found out he had terminal cancer and got it to build with his son as a last bonding mission.

Now I'm getting misty...
Happy Old Year

Zack

Zack:
You've got me all misty now too, damn you.

:-)

Sniff... sniffle...

We're all just softies behind the visors I guess.
