One thing I've noticed about my bike is that it pulls much harder slightly off WOT. On my carbed bikes this would indicate the Main Jet is too small. Is this a symptom of lean at WOT? It's easy to notice. Wind up WOT then let off just a touch and the bike leaps forward. Anyone else experience this? I have the Erik Buell Racing Race ECM and Barker. Any thoughts on how to get more power at WOT?

Wideband controller. Mine runs a little lean at WOT, maybe 13:1 after 7k rpm. Fueling is different on the pipe that you have, so I don't know for sure, but I'd be asking Erik Buell Racing. Maybe check the throttle action first though. Verify the butterflies are opening correctly and are at 100%. Could be over-rotating or not opening all the way. Might be it needs a little less air or fuel to make more power? Kinda depends on what's in the map at that throttle opening too. I never have looked at the maps since they did mine back in June. I didn't really care except it was 10x better than stock.

The Race ECM is 10 times better than stock. I just feel that at WOT it should pull harder than almost WOT. Not sure what Erik Buell Racing can do unless I want to ride to WI and have them tune the bike. Which I really do want. But WI is a ways a way from VA.

I've checked the linkage and the butterflies last time I had the airbox apart. It's not a new issue...it's one I was hoping the ECM would learn and solve, but it has not.

tps reset? re-adjust the throttle stop set screw?

Is there a place for static timing the motor? Degreeing the cam? sometimes a little less advance works well.

Richard,(Mountainstorm), just a question and something I have experienced with many high performance motors; are you going WFO at a lower rpm range then the large throttle bores can handle? On my 1125R now with more open exhaust, K&N and Erik's race ECM I have never experienced that, BUT I never go WFO under about 5000 rpm's and when I do, above that, its instantanous response to redline. If under 5000 I roll it on, maybe 3/4 throttle to 5000 and then go WFO. With large carbs or throttle bores, as we have, its real easy to get too much air in too quickly and lean out the engine early on even with perfect fueling in the ECM. Try grabbing a handful at 6000 and report back. Bob

If you watched Eslick race the buell, he would slightly clutch after he grabbed a handful of throttle and does the same with the Suzuki...That is how he gets his full quick thrust of power...now why IDONNO...Just a personal observation
I think Eslick notices what your talking about and does it out of instinct! He knows how to ride with the problems and compensates as he goes. IMO
I hope im on the same page as you!

Mountainstorm, try putting the standard ecm back in, i did this today after deciding my bike was down on power and pulled better at part throttle opening's than WOT.

I will be contacting Erik Buell Racing as my ecm i got from them has some serious issues, the stock is 10x better ? wasn't like this when i first fitted it, not sure whats happened.

the stock ECM gives no WOT enrichment (this is a specific function by percentage) while the Erik Buell Racing ECM does.

I'm not sure you maybe right!
It seem's when Eslick grabs a hand full of throttle, he slightly clutchs/blimps the throttle, and then like a slingshot he finds a burst of speed that gives him the edge to get by the guy!
Like I said you may be right and I have no racing experience what so ever! This is what I notice with all my chair racing time...

If the timing maps are good and the fueling, It should pull hard on every TPS degree. Less throttle is less power. More throttle is more power.

Thanks for the input guys. Let me describe it as best I can. I am not talking about hesitation during first acceleration. Nor am I talking about cracking the throttle at low RPM. I am talking about the bike approaching redline at WOT and hurtling along as fast as it can in top gear then roll back a little and feel the bike pull stronger than at WOT. I used to have a similar issue with my 79 Bonnie until I rejetted the main larger. Then it pulled strong at WOT right up to redline.

It feels like either a timing retard at WOT or a lack of fuel to me...but I am just going by my impressions.

It's far more pronounced with the stock exhaust and Race ECM than with the Barker, but it's still there and it doesn't feel quite right.

Another little issue is the bike stumbling and sounding like it's overly rich at lower RPMs (4K and below) with a small degree of throttle (such as cruising on level roads) that disappears when the bike is under load (either climbing up or under throttle to accelerate).

I really think that it's the symptoms of a "one size fits all" tune which is what you get unless you have your bike tuned on the dyno. Seems a little too rich at cruising speeds and a little too lean WOT screaming toward redline.

Overall the Race ECM is a great improvement, but I think more can be done to refine the tune.
