Hi all, Went to take my bike 08 1125R out yesterday. After warming her up I set off. After about a mile I noticed that the engine management light had come on so I stopped switched the ignition off, back on started her up again and no fault were showing. Again after about Half a mile the engine management light came back on. so I went back home to investigate.
Once home I went into the diagnostic mode and found the following error code.
F--R os fault P1047
I have looked this up in the 2009 1125r manual and it is saying that the sensors are out of range.
My question is. can I start the bike and look at the os sensors live on the diagnostic mode. can I measure the sensor output. if so how. as the fault seams to be on both the front and rear sensors do you think it could be a supply problem. anyone else had this before? ( i haven't heard of this before) any help would be appreciated

Just a guess here, but you've got an aftermarket exhaust on your bike, don't you? If you do, you need to either tune it to match or buy a race ecm from Erik Buell Racing.

Toggle through your cluster in diagnostic mode and see what the O2 sensors are reading at. If possible, use ECMspy/Tunerpro to clear the code and reset back to 100/100 and see if it happens again. If it does, you may have an intake or exhaust leak.

Right done some testing today.
The fault code that is showing is P1047 F--R sys err.
the manual is saying it is a O2 sensor error. but could be caused by mechanical faults.
To this end I have checked the seals on the inlet side and have found no faults / leaks. I have inspected the exhaust and found no leaks.
I have traced the wire that goes to the O2 sensor while monitoring in diagnostic mode. with sensor plugged in it is fluctuating between 0.4 and 0.7 volts. the manual says it should be 0.48 with a max of 0.56 and min of 0.41.
so it seams as if the fault is around this somewhere. if I unplug the sensor the reading does not change . is this right? if i ground the sensor wire to earth the reading shows 0.0
I don't now where to go with this at the moment anyone got any idea's please!
The AF values are 80 front and 105 rear

My reading in diag mode will show fluctuation from 0.4 to 0.7 volts for each o2 sensor of which you have 2),my afv has always stayed on 100/100. The ecu works but counting the amount of times it sees voltage above and below a certain figure (normally 0.45 volts) it then can adjust the afv to compensate for a rich or weak signal it is seeing.When they fluctuate as normal I dont think you will be able to determine a faulty sensor. I believe when the dealer reflashes it will reset the afv to 100/100.

Have you messed with the intake system at all? It sounds like the ECM is reading the front cylinder as being rich. There are several things that it could be... Either you have an obstruction in your front throttle body, your spark plug has a problem, or your O2 sensor is bad. Could be something else but those are the three most likely culprits. I would suggest you pull your airbox and make sure both throttle bodies open fully and evenly and that there is nothing blocking the front one. If you don't find anything wrong there then pull the front plug and see if it has any major deposits or damage. If you don't find any problems there then it's probably your sensor. The sensor can be bad and still show on the IC as having the right voltages but your AFV's are way off because the ECM already pulled lot's of fuel from the stock fuel map to get the bad sensor to have the right reading.. hence the low AFV. One way to check would be to pull both sensors and swap them and see if your afv's swap positions to 105 front/ 80 rear. Be careful with this method though as the computer is pulling lots of fuel and your rear cylinder may start to detonate and cause damage to the engine. My guess would be that the front O2 sensor is bad though just because it is the one that is reading way off of normal and a bad O2 sensor is much more common then an intake blockage.

Well I thought I would take the plugs out tonight to see what condition they are in. come to the front plug and guess what.......................... the plug wasn't tight in the plug hole! the plugs do need changing but I think the loose plug is the cause of the problem. It wasn't ridiculously loose and I couldn't see any blow past signs but I think Its got a chance. So gonna buy a set of plugs, an oil filter and some oil and see how we go.

Spark plug torque value is very low. The crush gasket is what's sealing/holding it. When you loosen it, it comes off with very little torque. It does not mean that it's loose.

DC, ye I now mate. was comparing it to the rear cylinder and the fact that it didn't have any restriction at all when I started to unscrew the plug

Also, don't forget about a possible dirty /clogged or leaking Fuel injector...That will cause the ecm to compensate with more injector time if dirty or less injector time if leaking (typically). This equates to a high or low AFV value after some time. With the quality of pump fuel these days, especially non-branded, it's a good possibility. I would suspect your front injector may have a problem. There are places that will flow test before and after ultrasonically cleaning your injectors to verify. www.injector-rehab.com is one example

rat. I think he was just putting in another possibility into the pot. Lampo. thanks for the input. its good to have a list of things that could be wrong then its easier to eliminate things and get to the rout cause
