Why? For a quarter the cost of an extended warrantee you can swap an 08 stator and rotor on. There are several high miled 08s on here without a stator issue. Most every other 1125 problems are really not that common and are really pretty cheap to repair.

I my not be totally informed on the subject. But is the stator not in the 700-800 range? what's a few bucks more and be covered for 5 yrs.

Yep, your numbers are correct since you need both the stator and rotor.

08 stator and rotor from Erik Buell Racing is sold as a used part and they state NO WARRANTY. Yes 5 year warranty extension is double the cost (approx) but it covers all the bike. Take your pick?

USanigel. I did not get the extended warranty but would be interested in getting one. at the time, it seemed a little expensive....but with the stator problems, I too would like to be covered. I believe our normal warranty is two years, right? REX

Hmm, something that fixes the bike, or something that makes you get stuck with the wrong part that keeps failing for 5 more years while costing you twice as much and then can leave you hanging on year 6? Yea sure, that warranty is great! : D

Hi Rex standard warranty is very basic and covers stuff going wrong. The extended warranty is an upgrade in coverage, things like rental bike covered, towing to nearest dealer etc. lots to read.
Froggy has a point IF you can fix it yourself. Its a big IF too because sure you can buy the parts and install them yourself or re-engineer and fit your own.
Just check some of the prices for Buell parts and one claim could cover the cost of the extended warranty. Its also transferable which should help you sell should you need to.
Anyone checking into a Buell 1125 would be put off by all the repairs and re-repairs many have gone through and still might go through. But its warrantied Mr buyer so relax and enjoy.
I'm sure an enterprising person will come up with a real fix for the charging system but at what cost?

In all honestly I would not buy an EX warranty most of the time but this site convinced me!

I know I can't, but I would pay to have it fixed correctly the first time. Rather than paying a deductible several times during extended warranty coverage, then the full amount outside of warranty for the real fix.

You only pay the deductable once once a covered part. If it fails again there is no deductable

Thats good to know.

Still, I got screwed over by the extended warranty on my Uly, so I am put off by getting one on any other Buell again.

Inaccurate.

It is a PER VISIT deductible. You have one complaint, you pay $50. You have eight complaints that are all covered on the same visit...you pay $50 for the visit.

Every visit.

I sold 'em for over six years. I know.

And, pricing is pretty much locked in. IIRC, you can only purchase the HARLEY extended warranty from the selling dealer (i.e. where you bought the bike). There are set prices the dealers are allowed to use. And, if it's been more than 60 days since the in-service date (the day your bike was titled)...there's a $150 surcharge.

"Best Price" is a misnomer. The price is the price is the price (if you want it to be valid, that is). Unless HD has changed the rules since March...

I got quoted several different amounts by different dealers for the EXACT same coverage, the range was from $999 to $1899 for 5 years. The $999 one was a bait/switch deal from a crappy dealer over in Illinois that wouldn't honor the price over the phone. I ended up going with 3 years for $1200 at the dealer I use. I had the water pump done right before I got the extended warranty but it was on the original warranty. Parts and labor for that particular job was maybe $900 or so. That's what made up my mind on it. Just 2 trips in at that rate and I'm waaaaaaay ahead of the curve.

Depending on the dealer(s) in your area (like mine)the extended warranty would be like pissing money down a hole. Unless you want to use the dealership as a storage facility and get your bike back with the same problem it went there to fix, or make it worse.

Easy solution, sell the bike just before the two year warranty is up. I don't keep my bikes that long so it will be a real possibility for me.

Ratbuell, you are right and wrong. You were correct in the $50 per visit no matter how many items they are taking care of in that visit. Down the road if any of those items fail again you will not have to pay the deductable again. You were wrong on the pricing though, dealers can sell it for any amount they want. I sell them too.
