Well the seals I got don't leak but they seem a bit to tight they are exactly the same size but I have done 2 now and the clutch is slow to return on both and it seems to slip a bit more a hesitation than a slip but it can be a little annoying when banging through the gears? Any ideas?

Are they the same thickness as the OEM ones?

yeah they were done to the mercel freudenburg specs they fit perfectly and look the same when laid side to side except the herc seals are a little duller in color. They are easy as pie to get in and seem to slide no problem at all I am kinda stumped unless the vitom seals are swelling as they heat up?

FWIW: My dealer replaced my Rev A cover with a Rev B when they installed the X2086.1AM kit. I'm not saying the new cover was necessary or had any effect, but they did it anyway. But I also noticed a slight "slowness" in clutch action after the fix, usually on downshifts. Kind of a double-clunk instead of the usual "snick".

I mentioned it to the service manager and rode it. I've got several thousand miles on it since and it never really caused any problems for me and now I don't notice it. It seems to have freed itself up with use. YMMV.

Thanks I will wait and see. I also emailed Erik Buell Racing and will wait for an answer in the mean time because I have and extra set of orings I will pull mine out and use 2000 grit sand paper and scuff up the seals and see if that makes a difference.

Based on visual inspection, is there a way to tell if a bike has the new kit installed in it?

Just picked my bike up a few minutes ago. I have the new repair kit and new cover. Odd. I was told it was back ordered until the end of this month. Now time will tell.

My bike just started weeping with a few drips last weekend. I talked to my local dealer and they don't seem to want to fix it. They told me it was normal and not a problem. I tried to explain that it was just going to get worse, and he kept saying was normal and not a problem. I'd rather not wait until the bike is unridable, squirting fluid, to get a fix kit ordered. Was there a HD phone number or email to help resolve such issues? How much does the kit cost anyways?

The seals can be had but I can't find anyone to make em in ethylene propylene. The Viton ones I had made are no good with brake fliud I was however told they were by Herculees seals in Florida . I wouldn't buy anything from them again dude lied through his teeth to get me to spend my money good thing I didn't commit to a large order

It depends. If you use the side stand and not a swing arm stand you'll lose less. Using the side stand, I think I lost 6-8 oz when I did mine.

Brumbear,

Please take a look at the following link. Maybe it will help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viton . It looks like there is Viton material called "Viton Extreme (Copolymers of TFE/Propylene and Ethylene/TFE/PMVE)". I would check with DuPont. I have used Viton in gasoline and diesel systems before with excellent results. I don't know first hand anything about the Viton Extreme stuff, but maybe your dealer will. Good luck.

Crowley I used Dot 5 "synth" and got a better result than AVC's I used dot4 for his and they crapped out in 2 days. The dot 5 didn't completely destroy the seals but they eventually went bolo

Fresno no motor oil is lost you don't even have to take off the cover on the 09's just the horsey cup for lack of a better description. The 08's are a little different I think. The gasket you see behind the plate is a diaphragm and behind that is a steel plate at no time is the engine oil even exposed.

Black thanks a ton I will persew this as I am quite sure the new fix is not gonna last but I will keep everyone posted

How are you getting the sleeve out without removing the cover?

In my case the spherical nut o-ring was trashed due to the low-side grinding the vent closed. I had a new sleeve and o-rings on hand, so I went ahead and replaced them too. And Fresno asked about a piston/ sleeve change, not just the o-rings on the nut and piston.

so part # 6 and 7 in fig 4 is all you have to replace to stop the weep. The new pack which that is looks the same as the old set up wise I know there are several differences not sure what they are.

If you have an 09 all you need to do
step 1: remove reservior cap
step 2: pull banjo bolt at cover let drain
step 3: pop off horsey cover with small flat head slots cut in cover at 7 and 4 oclock
step 4: place allen head in center shaft while placinga 17mm box wrench on nut hold allen steady break nut loose remove
step 5: I use a wood handle from a hammer or wooden dowel lightly tap on plunger or piston IT WILL POP OUT IT IS SPRING LOADED
step 6: replace seals on piston clean thoroughly clean cup and nut as well replace oring if necessary but in 3 times I never had to.
step 7: lubricate seals with dot 4/5 pop in piston hold in and start nut tighten nut
step 8: put on banjo bolt and tighten make sure both copper washers are there
step 9: fill and bleed system
step 10: pop on horsey cap
Viola!!!!!

yeah I understand what Fresno asked .I took off the whole thing twice and you don't have to worry about motor oil at all is all I am saying. The viton seals went bolo so I had to pull the whole cover off BE CAREFUL NOT TO TEAR DIAPHRAGM slow and steady wins the race here.I used a small flathead to open it and then my finger slowly so not to tear it. Also make sure to check the alignment when you put it back on

Pegasusrider - Your 'local dealer' has no interest? Some HD dealer's are clothing stores selling motorcycles, move on to the next one.

First, I did lose a little oil removing the cover. Maybe it's cuz it was warm from riding to my friends garage to do the work.

I used a socket and vise grip with an Allen wrench down the middle to get the nut off and back on.
