So I picked up the number 2 1125r last night here in Anchorage, and the Mrs. picked up her's tonite (number 3).

Number 1 is an 08 1125r that I bought used and was the first 1125 I had ridden. Prior had an 05 and an 06 xb. Number 1 had a d & d when I got it and went back to stock (my ears are still ringing).

So number 2 and 3 are entirely different than number 1. More power, different sound. A whole different bike.

Number 1 starts first time, runs well, no smoke, no odd noises, no oil burn (or leak). No backfires, no misses or surges or any of the other things that folks are reporting here. Almost runs like a single cylinder in comparison to the new one but none of the idling, backfiring, etc. problems that my old sporty had when the wire fell off in the road (no kidding, vibrated itself to pieces). No check engine light, no error codes, runs well and has good top end. Runs away from the Mrs. and my son's xb over 100. Under that, low on torque compared to the new ones.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Larry

Check the AFV's on bike #1. Odds are, it's running a little lean from the pipe you had on it. As the ecm learns the stock exhaust again, you might see a change in power. Another way to force it back to where it needs to be is have it flashed with the latest firmware. Also, what's the mileage on it?

When I changed pipes, I pulled the ground off of the battery and let it sit overnight. Seemed to run better after that.

Well, as a credit to my lack of observation skills: part of the problem is that the bike, when I bought it had aftermarket grips (and throttle tube). Cam is considerably smaller than OEM. Bike really isn't opening throttles entirely. So, will fix that first then see what is left. Looked it at before, never thought about it beyond that. Duh!

Ljm - That was a puzzler, good catch!

could it just need a good cable adjustment or is this a mismatch?

Yep, mismatch. Cable is tight.

But I guess that explains why my gas mileage was in the mid-40's.

Mid-40S!!!!!!!!!!! MPG

If only. Mr. Buell has never seen anything near that, even when I've been very, very good.
