Guy I work with got a fire sale R, been having charging issues post fix and he's fed up. Want's to get rid of the bike, as he's more of an inline guy anyway.

He's got the whole package, die at idle when cold, discharging, hard starts, battery lights on and off all the time.

I do the unfix thing, and start the bike, and watch the voltage at idle creep up from 12.6 to 14.1. At idle.

He does the short hop thing even worse that I do, and for our routines, the "fixed" bike does not work.

I rode my CR for about a year and a half with no issues with the stator. Keep in mind that like most issues, we only hear about the busted ones.

I would love to know what percentage of the bikes produced have had the stator fail.

I bet it's a really low #.

Carbonbigfoot - I really want to believe that it is a low number. I'm going on my third stator when I get back from Europe...Bike has 7k on it...lots of riding in all different ranges...It's just killing me. They did wire harness...new ecm program...

The big picture-

According to the production numbers on the top of this board 5836 R models, and 3099 CR models for a total of 8935 give or take a few.

Even when I count all the post's about stator failures it does not come close to a Epidemic as reported here.

Yes there are failures and it Sucks when it cant get fixed right the first time or in multiple visits, but over all just look at the Big picture.

Every board I read, cars, trucks, computers, phones there are problems and having these problems fixed sometimes can be a real pain.

These boards represent a small fraction of the total picture.

Trekerguy - how many garage queen 1125's do you think there are out there v.s. the riding year round types that are the true pioneers discovering all kinds of stuff before anyone else?

That is very hard to tell but I doubt very much its anywhere near 8935 ?

Don't take this personal, purely it is numbers thing, Percentages. People on boards report things with more Zeal and it always appears as a much bigger problem.

The Stator and or charging system is a definite issue that's not what I'm saying.

People have to look at the Big total picture from a math standpoint. Again Any problem with anything we purchase is an issue.

Some of these bikes according to the posts have stator/charging issues right away, some down the road thousands of miles later, some multiple times.( this sucks )

Many do not. Im just looking at the total number of bikes produced. Again IMHO...: )

Do some people garage their bikes? Yes . I think every person rides as much as they can depending on the person and the situation.

Dannybuell you get a +1 on that!!!

I just got a email from a random guy asking me bout a 2000 cyclone with 4000 miles. (garage queen obviously). I put about 6000 miles on my 1125r since march 2010 and just got my new stator and voltage regulator cause the last ones died.

I know 3 people with 1125Rs. Myself, brother-in-law, and one of my co-workers. We all bought them same day, during the fire sale. Here are the facts about those bikes.
- My 09 has had the stator fail.
- Co-worker has an 09. Stator and voltage regulator failed, clutch weep. He doesn't post on BadWeb.
- Brother-in-law has an 08. Clutch weep and electrical drain issues. Don't know the specifics.

My bike is not a garage queen and have put over 5,000 miles in a year. I've never seen a battery light. Had the harness installed around 3k miles. I don't go more than a few days without riding. I check my oil often and keep it between the full and overfilled mark.

Bueller4ever - your profile needs to be updated, says 08R.
"... I check my oil often and keep it between the full and overfilled mark."

An extra bit of oil helps cool the stator?

I think the more important question is if anyone who has had the fix done and then had their stator replaced due to failure has had the second stator (which has only been operated under post-fix 2-leg mode) also fail.

I have read a handful of posts describing this on BWB.

Post fix...it seems stator failures are down, but battery lights are up.

Still be interesting to see the actual #'s. I bet they're quite small.

Only HD knows for sure. I suspect that for 09s with at least 10k, the percentage of bikes that have had at least one stator replaced is quite high. The stators have been on backorder at least 5 or 6 times.

i 'know" of only one bike that has lost a stator after getting the harness update.
I asked the owner to e-mail Erik Buell Racing with all the details.

The original stator was replaced when the update was done.
Two weeks later, THAT stator died.
The CR is on stator #3 now. fingers crossed.
