Just curious..... there are a lot of people on here that have low miles on their bikes. How many people just sit and stare at their bike instead of ride it?

Life intrudes??? Just a guess.
Personally, I work out of the house = no commuting miles. May get a couple of quick trips to a store during the week otherwise it's Sunday mornings. Frankly, that I can put ANY miles on is a bit of a miracle.

I also own 4 bikes so its hard for me to get them all high, but I still put 9k on my CR and 4k on my R in the last year in addition to 13k on my Blast and 5k on the XB. (XB is the only one I have owned for more than a year, has 45k on it total)

1100 miles on my R that I bought in October... Life just hasn't worked out for a high mileage year, That and my lady prefers my S3 as a passenger! Mileage deffinately has nothing to do with NOT WANTING to ride!

Isn't this the case with the vast majority of bikes? Very few people actually ride and most use their bikes as garage ornaments.

If someone paid for the bike, it's his choice what to do with it. If he wants to spread peanut butter on it and top it with a cherry, that's entirely his right.

I also have a garage full like Mhpalin so if I ride 20,000 miles a year on each of 4 bikes will only get 5K if I don't favor one. That said, the 1125 has 7K miles since November 09.

Don't know if 'garage ornaments' is a good stereotype. You have everything from the die-hards and hypermilers to the guy who bought the Desmosidici RR, put 40 miles on it and kept in his loft in NYC as sculpture (saw it on Ebay, so I know it's true).

I like to keep rebuilds to a minimum, so I try to rotate the stable to keep individual bike mileage relatively low. I'm glad there are guys out there that buy a nice bike, put a few miles on it and decide to park it for a few years. Good deals can be had by those of us who actually ride from time to time..

I use my R almost daily but the trip to work and back totals 41 miles so, its taken a while to put the 8400 miles on her but she is getting there!

I'm envious that some of you here get to ride as often as you do. I get a ride once every 4 weeks (if I'm lucky!) as I have lots of commitments that take a much higher priority over riding. I guess i'm just at that stage of life.

Btw, i have 600KMs over 3 months. It hasn't even broken in yet...

18k miles on mine so far, down 3 months last year, working on a full month of down time this year as well. Sh!t happens. Lost the wheel bearings a little over a week ago, looks like the rear caliper & master cylinder is hosed again too. Extended warranty is a good thing.

I know there's guys out there that have well over 40k miles on their 1125's. I average 1500+ miles per month when I can.

mine has been down fora few months because of a wreck. It had 1600 when the wreck happened. It now has 2600 on it, so its been about 1000 miles in two weeks.

I have three bikes, no car but cycle to work and back each day. This year I bought the 1125R in February and have covered 14000 kilometers on it so far, but also ride a BMW single for short trips (3000 kilometers), and a XB12R as well (2-3000. So putting on the miles is spread around.

I don't ride to work because the distance is only about five miles but I do ride for an hour or two after work most days and Saturdays. With the three bikes I generally ride one for a week and then switch but lately it has been the CR only, going on the third week now. I like all three of them, but wow that CR, heck of a fun ride.

haha I posted my mileage on my 09 R and didn't mention the 25k miles i put on my 07 ZX6R before I got my R. I bought the buell with 6 miles on it, and the ninja with 0.

Kaotikevo, probly no real point of the thread, but at least it isn't a " I got a problem with... or that's it I am getting rid of...." thread.

Christ, here goes the "i have xxxxx miles" on my bike posts. Ok guys, you are part of the riding percentage. Congrats. The fact is for every one of you there are 5 people who buy a bike and ride it 1K-2k miles a year.

The number of miles ridden per year indicates nothing about the rider's sophistication or love of motorcycles. More often it has to do with the amount of free time available to that rider.

With kids to enjoy, the need to work long hours support them, basic human functions like eating and sleeping there isn't that much time to ride.

Combine that with a short riding season (in the North) and time waiting for parts. Subtract time allocated for other passions (music comes to mind, but others may like fishing or something).

I find that I don't ride as much as I'd like to - because I'm lucky. Kids, job, other interests. Wouldn't give 'em up, even for unlimited mileage.

Yes, I completely agree. Plus I have three bikes so I need to spread the love around to all of them.

I was at a Harley dealership. A woman there asked me when I put my motorcycle up for the year. She was surprised when I told her that I rode most of the year. I do take the winter off, but in Wash DC that only means the two coldest weeks in February. I read somewhere that most motorcyclists ride less than 2000 miles per year. She told me that her husband put his Harley away in October in their heated basement and that he detailed it throughout the winter. I'll bet that is more common than anyone would think. To each his own.

Yea, that ain't me! There is a picture floating around of my Blast stuck in a snowbank. Dropped it 6 times that night because the roads weren't plowed.

Back when a motorcycle was my sole means of transportation I used to log tons of miles, but now in the flat lands of Saskatchewan where we have barely 2 months of summer I find it hard to get out at all.

Infact - I decided to leave my bike with a friend who lives 6 hrs away (Calgary) because its just too depressing to ride here. Mountains / track or bust for me fellas!
