I have a Jardine RT-5 exhaust system. I got the idea to turn my exhaust tip out away from the swingarm and brakes from postings on this site. I had already turned the blue powder coating a little brown on the swingarm. I looked around on the web and got a stainless turned down tip from Gibson exhaust. The pipe is nearly the same diameter as the factory Jardine tip. I cut the tip off the Jardine with a dremmel tool and cutting wheel. I cut the Gibson tip as short as possible with a chop saw with a miter attachment, copying the same angle as the Jardine tip. I asked a friend and neighbor of mine about the proper rods for welding this stainless steel, because he works with stainless. He told me to bring it by. He took it to work with him for one day. His company fabricates stainless kitchen equipment from scratch. He called me later to tell me the Jardine base plate was a little thin to weld without warping it. He used the Jardine as a template, and cut a new piece out of thicker plate with a water jet. He had a welder put a bead around it, and it turned out nice. It was 106 degrees today, so I did not put it on the bike yet. Here are a few pictures.

This one shows the original base plate up against the thicker new plate.

He scribed this on the back side. I am known for being VERY pro American in my buying habits. Had he had more time, it would have been neatly etched on the outside. That would have been fine with me. Thanks Wade!

Any pics of it mounted on the bike?

can you make another, and what would you sell it for?

We are having a heat wave in Texas, and I'm being sort of a light weight. I don't feel like working out in the garage in the late afternoon when I get home from work. I'll get it installed this weekend, and take some pictures. I don't think he will be able to make more of these, as he pulled some strings to do it. I'll talk to him and find out where else to get this done. I don't think it is hard to do for the right person with the right tools.

What would y'all pay for something like this? I'll mention it to him. I paid 18.89 for the Gibson turn down tip. That was shipping and handling. I have no idea how much the thicker plate costs, or how much labor he put into it. He just gave it to me. He is my neighbor, and we try to help out neighbors around here.

I don't know ... $40 - $50? Does that sound fair?

I could do $40 and feel justified in the purchase, if for no other reason just the fact of saving my swing arm from all the discoloration..

I will gladly rock the Made in U.S.A. , if he wants to etch it on the outside.

Sorry guys. My tip will be the only one he makes. I gave him a link to this thread and told him there were people wanting him to make more. He doesn't think he can make more without hassles. With a little effort, it shouldn't be too hard to make one. I did all the cutting myself on the Gibson tip and the Jardine end plate. A small piece of the thicker plate would not be too hard to find, and you could keep the original tip if you want. Obviously, the carbon fiber end cover won't work with the turned out tip. I could have cut that new end plate, just not as quickly and easily as a water jet. I could find someone to put a pretty bead on it. I was actually going to attempt the welding myself. I was going to practice on the scrap left from cutting the Gibson tip shorter.

Sorry to hijack, but those that are interested in a turnout, my guy is still working on making these from my thread a while ago. I should be able to update my thread later this week with a pic or two/more info.
