Anyone seen the video from Erik Buell Racing of the 1190rr with fans and lights? Possible future street development?

dang it! I am (soon) in the market for another bike. Wanting a dedicated sports bike (already have a Uly and a Duc Monster)... Was looking hard at the 2011 Duc 848 Evo... now may have to wait to see if Erik Buell Racing releases a streetbike and how it compares...

Ridenusa, maybe wait for the new Kawalski Ninja? I think it will compete with the BMW engine but will handle much better. Also, the RSV4 and MV Augusta F4 are both very good bikes and have some character to them. Hope the Buell works out though. I like my CR and I'm still getting to know it. Its been pretty much trouble free so far. -Tutt

Now why would you think a first year Kawasaki would handle better than the Beemer that has already had two years of track development??

Jaimec - The BMW needed 2 years of track development since it was a ground-up new design for a "traditional" sportbike from a company that had never made one before.

Even though Kawasaki is the laughing stock of the AMA, WSBK and MotoGP paddocks, they make a living making excellent streetbikes. Look at last 2 years Sport Rider Open Sportbike comparison, the current ZX-10R had way more motor over the winning CBR1000RR and even turned faster lap times on race tires.

Kawasaki has been developing the new ZX-10R for the last 2 years and none other than Chris Vermulen is doing some of the development riding. It is rumored to be the first Japanese company to integrate a race-ready traction control system on par with the 1198S and S1000RR.

Here's a good preview: http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/kawasaki/20 11-kawasaki-zx10r-preview-89749.html

and an image of a race-prepped 2011 ZX-10R Prototype (Kawi is being very teasing with very few factory images):

The article I linked to said that Kawi's schedule was to release information in October on the ground-up redesigned 2011 ZX-10R.

I love all bikes and will be interested to see how the production bike does in comparison tests.

ive heard a number of the new BMW's when i am at the track, and they sound unlike any other IL4 out there...well except the NEW R1's. the firing order is different IIRC and it makes a different lopey idle, and sounds throaty through the revs unlike the GSXR's that are nothing but high pitched ear piercing screaming.

... but still... its an inline 4 and i like being different.. the V4 is just different in the right ways!

that new kawi looks... expensive... with all that carbon fiber!

no matter how hard i try, i cant fall in love with the kawi's.. if i was forced to buy a big 4 bike id probably do a yamaha since theyre the most aesthetically pleasing... and atleast finally with the R1's theyve thought enough outside of the box atleast to change the firing order to differentiate themselves from the other 3

Jng- thanks!! im very excited to see what they come up with!!

Pizza- i know what you mean, thats one reason why i got a buell, "different in every sense" ...the aprilia would rape me in insurance though...that the perk of the buell...ALOT lower insurance lol

pizza- thats just the race bike, kawi would have to be flat our crazy to make the production bike like that it would be WAY overpriced...expect the usual plastic tid bits lol...and i like the R1 for the firing order and everything, but i just CANT get over the aesthetics!! the exhaust is the stupidest thing ive ever seen! i mean honestly the passenger has to rest their legs on the heat shields!! lol

I see that you're less than 25 years old. That's pretty much going to put you in the highest insurance bracket for any bike categorized as a "sportbike", which is just about every Japanese sportbike. That actually was one of the decision makers for me and the 1125R. I was actually deciding between a 2009 Repsol-replica CBR1000RR and the 2009 1125R. When I checked with my insurance (Progressive), it was about $2,000 more a year for me to have the coverage I needed (umbrella policy with $100K/$300K limits) than the 1125. And that's over 35 with a decent driving record. Wasn't even a choice at that point.

Buells get a decent break because more insurance companies don't know what they are, and every squid around wrecks their Japanese hyper-bike, so they are VERY familiar with those.

If you're in need of reliable motorcycle transportation, want a very good sportbike you can afford (both payment- and insurance-wise) and like the Buell Trilogy-of-Tech/Uniqueness, then you may want to look at the XB bikes. The Lightnings' and Firebolts' air-cooled motors are extremely reliable and the maintenance is super-simple. Plus, they sound killer, handle even better and are the last of their breeds.

Good luck!

Jeff

I just went through a few months of angst about whether or not to keep my 1125 race bike or upgrade to a BMW racer. I road the BMW on the street and was impressed. Downloaded the S1000 manual and read it. Watched Chris Peris race one all spring at Arroyo. Great bike.

But it's not a v-twin and that class is great racing. It's also great fun to finish ahead of liter bikes in the other classes. Don't get me wrong; I'm a rookie so I don't pass too many liter bikes. I road a liter race bike (kawi) and yes it was fast. But my Buell is not completely setup yet.

Now that I feel confident that there's going to be solid Buell support in the future I've started buying parts. However, I do think that maybe I should have waited for the 1190 and converted one to a club racer.

The il4’s are fast but they don’t have the same character as the Buell. If you’re getting a street bike, why do you need something so fast? I spent about an hour on the BMW. I would never ride something like that on the street. It’s too fast. But then I’m 60 and have learned the value of restraint and going fast in the right environment. If you just need something to ride that you can brag about, spend your money on the expensive stuff and have at it. But I don’t think you’ll get anything that could replace the value of a fast v-twin. Of course this is only my opinion.

Wow! Am I excited about possibly seeing an 1190 street bike! Yes!

Why does the E-B-R take-off page have water pump and stator covers for sale? Do they run without water pumps? and stators?

Are they running with better water pumps and stators?
