So I liked the 1125CR the first time I saw one. I liked it the first time I rode one (a lot). I liked it when I bought one and I liked it every time I rode it.

I got an FMF pipe for it and liked the look and sound...but wasn't crazy about the throttle respone in the midrange etc. But I still liked it.

Then I got the FMF/pumpgas ECM from Erik Buell Racing.

And now? I LOVE it. No really, I mean I love it. It spools up faster, feels smoother, has a flatter torque curve (results garnered with my semi-calibrated ass-dyno), and is just generally more wonderful. If I had ridden one like this first, and THEN got on my bike the way it was, I'd have thought, "wtf is wrong with this thing?"
But all the while (past 6 months) I didn't know what I was missing.

I was accustomed to it...and it was "fine" the way it was.
Or at least it seemed to be fine. It just wasn't completely lovable.

It is now...

Me and my "new" CR are going to do a trackday this coming Sunday. I'll be rolling on AMA-spec Dunlop race tires.

Streets of Willow--I'm expecting we'll be able to drop into the high 1:20s (brakes permitting).

It's gonna be a downright religious experience.

:-)

P.S. Did I mention that I now freakin' love this bike?

Sweet! I've got an R with the FMF and am waiting for my ECM. This makes me even more excited. I, like you, have thought that my bike has been running great with the stock ECM so why change? All the posts like this have convinced me to fork out the $250.

Have fun at the track day. Take video is possible.

Natty, similar experience with my '09R running a stock exhaust and the latest #142 flash that I thought was perfectly fine. Although skeptical, I popped the $250 and installed the E B R unit. Night and day IMO ...

Millenium: Yeah it's amazing how much better it is given how good it was. And by the way, that is a freakin' SWEET x1 you have.

Sometimes I miss mine, but only for nostalgic reasons. As a motorcycle, it was a rather clunky tool compared to my CR.

my 2000 x1 -- spots on ground under bike are water from washing it -- not oil (honest).

im sure you know this, and maybe have already done it, but upgrade the pads atleast. ive really fought them a few times. put on better pads and my brakes held out a little longer, but were starting to fade again near the end of my last track running. i need to upgrade the fluid to something else.

otherwise after a bit of hard running its not going to late brake near as well as those preproduction 1125's with the buell race pads did when we were playing at road america ; )

Right on no-rice. I hear you.

And yep -- new aftermarket pads going in.

I'm also gonna get Erik Buell Racing's rotor re-mounting kit... but it won't be here in time for this particular day.
