Hello all,

Just experienced my first run in with the clutch weeping just shy of the 2900 mile mark. Should I contact the dealership now and have it addressed, or should I hold off and observe if it continues, or is a fix eminent? Thanks for any and all input.

Occurred following an in-town ride, 30 miles out, 30 miles back. Although I ran out to Phoenix AZ a couple weeks back, but didn't notice anything after the trip. Thanks.

THere is a fix, I would take it to the dealer to get the repair process started (parts maybe backordered) and ride the bike in the meantime..

I just made an appointment for mine for Tuesday. Unfortunately they won't take my word that the clutch cover is leaking so I have to drop it off for their inspection on whether it's a warranty item (it obviously is). My clutch fluid is also pretty dirty (looking through the sight glass on the front of the reservir), so I hope they do a full flush as well.

If I have to drive an hour to drop it off only for them to say that they have to keep the bike for weeks until the backordered parts come in I'm going to be pissssssed. Call me when the parts are in ... I'm going riding, lol.

NO competent service department would make you keep your bike there when it's ridable. I don't think they would want it there anyway.

Thanks Guys! Especially for the quick response. Got an appointment for Wednesday, so I'll be dropping it off Tuesday afternoon. Keep you posted. Good interaction with the service department. They have always treated me and my bikes well, and they did a good job with the harness recall for me. I'll stay optimistic that they'll get me dialed in. Thanks again for the input.

They can't change the clutch cover without evacuating the system.

I'd get it fixed asap... I had to get mine fixed twice... the second time though the dealer stated that he replaced all the components.. .rather than simply the seal which is all they did the first time.

Bout 4K miles since the second repair without any leaks!

I just stopped in at the dealer and they took a look and made a call and ordered parts and off I went. They called when the parts came in and did the service. All I did was top off the reservoir with DOT4 and let it squirt. Sounded like a rubber ducky toward the end.

Mine went in 4 --- yes, 4 --- times before they developed the upgrade. The final time, the clutch actually failed and left me stranded on the road. I would advise being judicious in how long you wait.

The parts are most likely back ordered. I didn't even take my bike, just walked in told them it was leaking and they said they would call me when it arrives. That was 3 weeks ago.

I'll drop it off on Tuesday afternoon so the tech can get to it first thing Wednesday morning. Hopefully they will be able to get the problem addressed at that time. I hope it doesn't turn into a reoccurring issue. As I understand, according to other threads, the part # for the current and proper fix is X2086.1AM. My dealership has always done right by me, so I'll hope for the best.

Sorry to hear that you had to go through this 4 times Marco. Nightmare.

I'll update Wednesday. Fingers crossed. Peace Brothers (& sisters)! Weather is getting pretty damn nice for ridin'! Hate to have it in the shop for any extended period of time. If parts delayed, I'll pick my bike up and take it back once parts arrive. Glad I've got my trusty XB still in the mix. Happy riding all!

When mine started leaking, I continued to ride until one morning I went out and there basically was no fluid. I just added some and continued to ride some more. However, thanks to the Bad Web and ZAC4MAC, I was able to call ahead with the correct part numbers and when I took it in, everything was waiting for me. Knock on wood....no leaks since. There are lots of Buell shirts in the service department of my dealership, so I am pretty lucky there.

Well it appears that crossing my fingers had the desired affect. My dealership got me dialed in with the current fix and I picked it up the following morning. Whew, I was sweeting it, but everything appears to have turned out well. All covered under warranty. Ran it 70+ miles and everything appears to be in good working order. Thanks again for all of your input. Made me much more informed going into this dilemma, and better educated as to what my desired outcome should be. Hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. I developed a leak looks to be from the clutch cover where the small pen hole is not on the puck. Is this clutch weep?

That sounds like the clutch weeping, but I would like to hear additional input. I'm better with the riding aspects of the bike than I am the mechanical, however it sounds like that's what it is.

Mine dribbled for a year and a half, or about 18k miles.
I refilled the reservoir twice total.

Got a new cover and the X2086.1AM fix-kit and no leaks since, 25k miles now.

7 weeks so far waiting on the clutch seal....Dealers had the bike the whole time.... of course i had some other issues to be resolved also, cluster, rotor etc....

its a good thing i am gone and could careless how long they keep the bike.... if i was there in the states and had to wait for the parts i would be PISSED OFF by now...

Does changing the cover require any oil to be drained? I'm just wondering since I think my bike has the weep and I'm anal about what oil I use in my bikes. I'm hoping the cover is okay--I gave it a thorough cleaning tonight and will check it in the daylight.

Do you guys have the part number for the clutch cover? I'm going to try to give the dealer all of the part numbers in advance and hope they will be willing to order the stuff without me having to make the hour+ trip up there.

Also, does anyone know what MSRP is on the X2086.1AM kit? I am also half considering trying to find the parts and doing the repair myself if they're not expensive.

Depends on your relationship to the dealer. My dealer usually will order the stuff for me before I drop it off, and they tend to have the more common fixes in stock. I dropped off my 1125R one morning for the clutch weep and it was ready that afternoon.

I called over to the dealer and spoke directly to the service manager. I explained the problem and gave him the Buell part number for the weep fix. I also told him that the clutch cover had been stained by the brake fluid but that I didn't have the part number for that. He said he would go ahead and start the warranty process and get the parts ordered, without having to see my bike first! Of course I may have to wait a while due to the stuff being backordered, but at least it saved me several hours of bringing my bike to the dealer just to get the ball rolling.
