I think $200 would still be a value for most of us. The Corbin runs $260 and you are hard pressed to find the original comfort seat used for less than that. Ultimately I think it depends on the final specs of the seat and quality of build.

Yeah, $200 would still be a good deal. One thing I'm wondering with a group buy would be turnaround time....I"m in CT and this cold weather is already cutting into my riding time (sick of throwing on my snowboarding gear to ride!). I'm def going Baldwin if this doesn't work out.

I'd likely be good for a comfort seat at stock height.

Update:
I've got an email into the vendor that actually built the P&A seats for the company that sold them to Buell. The guy that I need to deal with is out of country, so it'll be a bit before I get more info.

As expected, the seat pans that were used to assemble those seats came from HD/Buell, and as such, are likely just short of impossible to purchase in the raw. However, my cost on the actual whole stock seat is not brutally expensive. So it might be possible to create a core system not unlike ceramic headers or drummers where we could sell them with a core charge of approximately $50. That is, you could buy a seat AND a core, and your core charge would be refunded when you returned your seat with the PAN in good condition (covering wouldn't matter).

Too soon to tell...I'll know more soon.

Al

I'd just as soon keep my stock seat, I guess I'm weird that way. I kept my stock muffler, tag bracket and even the solenoid. I've always kept the original parts, even if they were worthless.

There are three things we can all agree on what we have learned.

1 Chinese vendor - Domestic prevails.
2 Remake
3 Replace

The list is at 55 somewhere along the way this will be sorted out in several directions in the Remake and Replace camps. It looks like A-S-B Al has caught the scent but he needs time. Lets give this some time. This is starting to get interesting. A CAD engineer in a tool rich environment could design a seat pan in an hour or two. That file could go ... and we would have our seat pan with the upholsterer of choice.

We should discuss shaping issues. Read this thread carefully recognize the Corbin 'low front' and stock 'mound' issues. Some have made this a gender issue, the votes may fall that way. The author shows a picture where the original hovering above the Corbin has a mound in the middle the Corbin has a low front. I think the low front would level pelvis and hips v.s. the mound. Any Docs wish to elaborate?

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/562120.html?1273534521

We should also discuss Erik Buell Racing License costs for stitching. What do you think they would want for each unit and what are we willing to pay?

To save space there will be a final post and call to action at that time. There will likely be an order form where each of us will be asked to decide on shape style and thickness.

What other extras and features are important after shape and thickness?

Go to
http://corbin.com/funstuff/media/corbin_ecc.shtml

to find out why Corbin does not like gel.

I definitely want made in USA. I found a custom shop in Houston--going to contact them to see if they are interested. This is a sample from their website.

After nearly 48k miles on the stock seat I am curiously interested in a comfort seat.

Don't care either way about whose name is on it.

Many parts on these bikes are from places other than USA, but if my money can go to my countrymen, it would preferred.

Message from Buell Info:
RE: Licensing

"Dan,

We'd really need to have control over the quality, etc. if our brand is going on it. I very much appreciate the interest, but can't afford damaging this new brand. Now I'm not saying whoever is going to make them can't do quality; I'm simply saying we would need to know for certain. Hope you understand. There's a lot at stake for the future.

Thank you,

Customer Support

Erik Buell Racing"

Back off or final say?
A Made in USA label is a good start.

I am such a dreamer. :-)

Edit: I'm putting you on the list Chameleon.

Guys,

Corbin makes great stuff. And for $260 (http://www.corbin.com/buell/hdb1125.shtml)we could buy a seat from them as individuals as Hogzilla pointed out.

If it has been done already, sorry for missing it. But what about asking Corbin for a group discount? Going through them would do a few things IMO. 1) We get a product made in the USA 2) Erik Buell Racing should consider them to be of high quality 3) We might get that group discount.

This whole thing got started w/a $150 seat. Now it seams we are above $200. If we all pay up front I think asking Corbin for a 25% discount to be a fair offer.

the thickness and comfort are key to me. i have one of the of custom seats but have 2 bikes.
I also have 2 other 1125 riders in the area which aren't net friendly who might be interested as this gets closer to a end.
I would be ok with Erik Buell Racing getting to check them over to get the logo but if it add 6 months and 50 dollars i rather have my seat now.

Baldwin and corbin seats both look like great options. But i will wait to see if i can save a few bucks

Annony, it was mentioned in one of the threads that they wanted to try and get licensing to use the Erik Buell Racing logo. Hopefully if this does take off, that would be a possibility.

Sigh, im thinking that the seat issue is the start of a trend.

Parts are not stocked. HD discontinued many acc's yet owns the tooling.

Anon's post has me depressed now. 50 plus people looking for a solution but there doesnt seem to be any available or he would have helped us out rather then warn about stitching.

Build without the logo or put on the logo of who built it. I don't think it's a very important part of the criteria. That ship sailed when we found out the original builder was the Chinese company and the relationship with them was not so good. I'd focus on aligning with Sargent, Corbin or American Sport Bike and let them put their name on it. Just my $.02.

ESB has bigger fish to fry with building race bikes. This isn't a good use of their time.

I don't particularly care if it has a logo. I mean the Buell Pegasus would be cool; but, not necessary. Most important is comfort for longer rides! Also, I'll go with whichever seat builder chimes in.

Pittsburgh_guy OK. Good luck and best wishes.

Afhans - I have been in contact with an individual at Corbin. Corbin does not want to bypass their dealer network. The challenge is finding a dealer that will play ball. I am sure there are already BWB sponsors that are Corbin Dealers. Finding a player is another thing altogether. More on that later.

E-B-R email received 5/11/2010 (full text posted on BWB this thread.):

The subject of preserving the brand with quality was raised; "can't afford damaging this new brand... I'm simply saying we would need to know for certain."
Is Corbin good enough? A Corbin Limited Edition sounds nice. How many would be interested in limited a edition licensed model with logo and script?

Could everyone agree on a Corbin at a discounted price?

Will E-B-R acknowledge Corbin quality as licensable?

Edit: What happens when your fan base is not your primary focus?

This is just my personal opinion, but I think when E-B-R deems it part of their business model to include a seat, they will brand it once they find one. I would guess this will include their own specs and research.

Not sure what the intent behind the question was but I think their fan base IS a priority, that's why they are building an affordable trackday bike. I would guess when they have the time to thoroughly investigate the possibility of a seat and can stand behind the quality, they will brand a seat.

Not trying to stir anything up, just looking at the other side of this. I work in branding and marketing and know how a young company has to think when it comes to their brand. You have to very strictly control what it goes on. It will ruffle feathers at times, but for the long term is the smart decision. I think their fan base is a pretty high priority to them.

I seriously doubt that a comfort seat for touring is within the business model of Erik Buell Racing.

It's irrelevant to me if a logo or script are on it... I'm more about function than form in general.

i am game for corbin i need more height .
having a 36" inseam.
I am not interested in a seat that is in between the stock and touring seat.
i would be good with one as tall as the original Pegasus seat or slightly taller with a Erik Buell Racing Logo

Dannybuell,

Thanks for the response. When comes to the logo, I think is would be cool. But what attracted me to this tread, was the idea of a nice, but inexpensive seat. So do I really want to paid more for a logo? No.

Concerning Corbin. I am confused. I thought when an order is made online it is direct through Corbin. What am I missing?
