Buying a Buell in the next couple of weeks and I'm wondering how it will be, maintaining the 1125 without major focused factory support.

I mean guys at the factory gathering and updateing info and solving problems.

Who other than me is going to work on this, HD mechanics??? Am I overly concerned?

Thinking of going XB as I can do most of the maint, and the motors been around since what, 1957 or so? Whats the deal?

Its also not terribly hard to work on especially if you have a garage. I've been doing my work in a parking lot...though I can not do the 12k service in that parking lot since I have to wait for shims. Have a garage? You're good.

I don't believe Harley has any legal commitment for the long run, and with most companies what they say may run opposite of what they do. They are looking to chop another $54 mil. and I would guess anything that costs them money is an option. That being said I think there will be other sources of help if they do abandon Buell completely. The most obvious being the new Buell.

Make sure you have a good dealer for support relatively close by. But for the most part you should be in good shape. A lot of the motor parts are shared with other Rotax based powerplants and Rotax is still in good shape. There are a lot of parts still out there and eBay will be full of parts for many years to come. Also, Erik Buell Racing has lots of stuff to help support the bike. I would lean toward getting the 1125r/cr as I think parts will be easier to come by. Accessories are already gone, but there is plenty of aftermarket.

Good luck. It's a hell of a bike. I am quite happy with mine.

Seems like some good deals out there on 09 CRs which would be cool. Seems like mostly 08 Rs avaliable, Should stay away from the 08s?

In my opinion they are fine. The issues have been sorted at this point.

Expect some warranty items (blinkers, clutch seals, etc.) but if you have a decent dealer near by it's OK.

They make good track bikes, too.

I have a very early 08 and she's a daily rider.
Getting ready to do the 24.8k service.

I have had several common issues and a couple of uncommon ones, but consider this the finest, funnest machine I have ever piloted.
Today's my "Saturday". I'm going for a ride.

lol, I don't want them to come back and say it was due to a modification that was sold nor put on by HD. It seems there are fine lines when it comes down to money!

I wouldn't say shafted, I paid $13.3k out the door and my warranty ran out April 1st.

I'd do it all over again the same way.

I purchased my bike on Jan 15th, 2008 for $13.5K and my warranty also ran out April 1st.

I'd do it all over again the same way.
Same here... Although it definitely would have been very nice to have paid half along with the extended warranty like some of these other guys...
