well as someof you know i couldnt get my bike to start yesterday... well after charging the battery 24 hrs it did the trick and it started. took it for the first ride of the season. all is well got my new fairing kit on. no burning smell, the heat shield i put on worked great. didnt need to space just bend the bracket. and then i notice when i hit some good bumps i get a click or popping sound. at first i thought it was the side fairings. like maybe how it has Velcro on the front nose it came undone or something. i didnt have a clue. then i noticed when i was in a parking lot if i hit the brakes hard to come to a quick stop it would pop as the suspension compresses and then again when it rebounds... and you can feel a click in the handle bars... is this in the front shocks or steering stem bearing or what? its always something! ugh... lol good thing i love my buell!!!

Sounds normal to me. My XB did the same thing. Not sure exactly what it is though.

The warmer it gets the more you will hear it. Cold weather = thick fluid.

How many miles has it been since your forks were serviced?

That stuff turns to heavy crud at some point. racers change daily.

Was just getting ready to say that. If your nearing 10k, they are due for a change!

I got to about 11k before it started popping more.

Mine started that popping / clunking noise after it sat in the garage for the winter. Not quite 1,000 miles on it ... Perfectly quiet when I parked it, but clunking the next time I moved it. Thought it was fork oil related, but sounds more in the lower triple tree area. It will make the noise even putting it back on the sidestand. It rides perfectly fine, but I don't like unexplained (new) noises all that much ...

Yep that's how it is with me too, I think its gunna need checked out. If it didn't do it so much that I felt it in the bars I wouldn't be so worried

My dealer sez it's the main headset bolt being loose. I don't beleve the little buggers however. We shall see..

just an off question, but what do you way? It seems to me that I had the same sound when I had that suspension set light. I am only 130 lbs and with gear barely 150. now that I set more preload in the rear I don't hear it as often, but now I got another problem (started thread) and believe I have a solution now for mine. Maybe just try it out and if it doesn't work it is an easy way to go back.

I've been noticing my front end making a lot of noise while braking lately.
Maybe it's just from this thread.

No oddities as far as handling, brakes pulse a little 'cause I ride like a grandma.

I know about the slider inside hitting the edge of its cut-out but this seems different.
No failures yet, so still not too worried.
My warranty expires in a couple of weeks tho...

Mine don't "pop", they, or something down there "oink's", like a lil piggy, go figure.

mine was that i needed to tighten the upper triple tree nut a little. i loosened all the upper pinch bolts and torqued the center nut, retightened the pinch bolts and the little pop was gone. mine would pop as i rolled forward and touched the brake. no more!

Tim, that's exactly what mine does ... Touch the brake while rolling it, or even pushing down on the bars while sitting still in the garage, pop. It will pop every time I return it to the sidestand.

I don't feel it when riding, so it's not my biggest concern. It didn't do it before I stored it, so it wasn't being masked by wind noise. Yes, I sometimes go to the garage and sit on my bike even when the weather doesn't allow for a ride.

I like the thing, what can I say ; )

My opinion on two possible culprits...

Steering head bearing loose. Unlikely if you've got low miles unless it came from the factory that way (doubt it).

If you're trying to recreate it in the garage and bounce the front end, you're probably holding the front brake and you might be hearing the brake disk "popping" a little in the bushings that allow it to float.

i weigh somewhere between 135 and 145. it might be the front is set up too soft? as for it just being the brake i dont think so. it does it while braking and while riding and hitting bumps...

Would I be too lazy to ask which exact bolts you loosen and then tighten / re-tighten ... And in what order? I'm sure I have a torque wrench laying around somewhere ; )

Didn't use a torque wrench lol.... the big polished bolt in the middle of the top of the tripple (under where it says 1125r with the name plate. You need to loosen up the pinch bolt under that first takes a 6mm wrench. Then tighten up the big bolt (was sung but it turned a good bit) then re tighten the pinch bolt. All done took all of 2 min

Does someone have the torque specs for the upper triple tree nut?

38-42 ft-lb on the upper triple tree nut, 20-22 ft-lb on the pinch bolt.

I tried this today, still getting the pop sound when the forks are compressed. It really only sounds like it's coming from the right fork.

Well mines gone for the most part... it doesn't pop when putting it on the side stand or pushing the front end down now, but if I hit the right bump in the road I get a little pop. A lot better then before though
