Illinois HD took down all the info and the VIN. They will order the part(s) and call to make an appointment when they are in. Seemed reasonable to me. It doesn't sound dire to the function of the bike so waiting is fine. There is no good reason to keep the bike while waiting for the parts.

They have a Buell guru that races an XB. I trust him fully. Good to have that at my local dealer.

I got my letter yesterday as well. I'll be calling my dealership tomorrow. Glad I got this before changing out my ECM and exhaust, saves me the trouble of having to swap them out.

A.D. Farrow Northstar ordered the part for me today too.
I received my letter on 03/12/2010.

Hey Gemini (or anyone else),
Do you know if having the throttle solenoid removed & resistor installed has any effect on this upgrade?

A 2010 would have one installed from the factory.

I got the letter Monday called the stealer yesterday and was told that they don't order the part,H-D sends each stealer an alotment of parts and after they do the bikes in stock they will start doing customer bikes.I asked to have part ordered for my bike and that is what I was told they don't order the part they just wait until HD sends them the part, they did say they would put me on the list to have part installed after they do their bikes in stock and if they have any left they will call me....

BTW - does anyone know what this TSB actually *does*? My CR seems to be charging at 13.8-14.2 whenever the engine's running. The only possible charging-related issue I've seen is a slight flickering/dimming of the cluster backlight at idle, which could be a voltage fluctuation.

Hey Keef your dealer is full of s**t!! iF you get that letter in the mail like most of us did. They are required to order that part for you and get it done.

I did not even have the letter yet and my dealer looked up my vin# and ordered the parts and are taking care of it.

I'm guessing it would be assigned by VIN. Give them the VIN and they should be able to take care of you.

A few recall kits are usually sent to dealers in a "wave shipment" to get them started filling orders.
After that, a VIN is often required to order the kits, only one kit per VIN will be sent.
Some recalls do not require the VIN, this is NOT one of them.

This one is a Product Campaign which has a "fulfillment time window", not a Safety Campaign, which has NO time limit.
Not all 08s get this, mine was built in Nov07 and isn't on the list.
Pretty sure this campaign covers late 08s and early 09s.

Hope this clears the issue a little.

Zack

I'll be damned. My CR (May 09 vintage) already has the sub harness installed too. It was one of the "ordered" bikes after 10-15-09. When I picked it up the service manager said it was sent back to the factory and fully updated before I took delivery. Guess he wasn't kidding. (Btw I did recv the charging system harness letter)

I would be real interested to see how involved this install is. I assume the "kit" comes with an instruction sheet. I don't suppose anyone might have access to one of these and be willing to post it(?) I'm just trying to decide if I want to trust this install to my local not-so-buell-oriented dealer or take it the 50 miles or so to the place where I bought the bike.

so far as installation goes....

looking at the harness on my bike, it can't get screwed up. it's all plug and play. the ony "subjective" area would be the care in routing the wires.

Do the body panels come off or does it look like it's all just plugged in under the seat?

Parrick, the harness can be installed without taking the rear bodywork off as long as it's not a Cali bike i.e. doesn't have the cali canister. There are two different mounting positions for the relay depending on whether or not there is a cali can.

For the most part the mounting is extremely straight forward for the harness itself. The most difficult part of the whole thing is fishing the ECM wire along the side of the frame and plugging it into the ECM connector without disturbing the other wires into the same connector. As long as the dealer takes his time it shouldn't be an issue.

One more thing. Remember if you do it yourself and something gets messed up, I'm sure the dealer won't fix it for free if it needs to be brought in.

Thanks for the info! I would do my own install but it sounds like I would have to trailer it in then to get the flash for the ECU. Doubt the bike would be rideable without the firmware update.

So the harness for sure fixes the flickering on the cluster?

no mention of that so far..I'm dropping off the bike tonight at the dealer. They got 6 harness kits in stock.

The harness has nothing to do with the flicker of the cluster. It is strictly for resolving a problem of the stator overheating. IF your cluster is flickering due to an overheated stator which is most likely not providing peak power output, then you would have to have your stator replaced. Emphasis on IF, like I said, this stator harness has nothing to do with the cluster nor does the stator necessarily either.

Parrick, you can go get the flash. The flash includes instructions for ECM to control the relay that is installed with the stator harness. So, if your bike is flashed and the ECM is turning on and off a relay that isn't there, it won't hurt anything. The pin location that the ECM connection to the stator harness uses is empty prior to installing the stator harness.

Dealer aleady had the harness on order.I then asked the service lady if I could get my ECM flashed for free. She replied "Um,I'm pretty sure we don't do that for free". Even tho two weeks after I bought the bike the general manager told me I needed to get the latest flash done.I asked him how much and he said "Oh,we do that for free".

So,my 09 1125R has the 142 calibration does this mean it has the instructions for the updated harness (for stator overheat) ? or is there an updated 142 calibration that has to be flashed when the new harness is fitted ?

Jeff, ask the dealer for a print out for the flash, it clearly states the it is a non chargeable reflash
