My original goal was to mount the ezpass so it wasn't noticeable and was permanent. After mounting under the l/s pod next to the ecu, I found it did not work there.
Not wanting to mount it on the back side of the fairing (thinking that it would be possible for it to fall off there but probably would have been sufficient)
I decided to mount it on top of the headlamp in a black denier nylon pouch that I made. It's virtually unnoticeable and removable if needed.
It also covers up the wiring you can see behind the headlamp through the windshield.
I think it came out nice...

Very nice. Good idea too. I'll have to keep that in mind.

That's a great idea and well executed. Nice! That pouch is perfect. You could market that.

Does it work through the pouch? I have tried in my jacket pocket, works about 50% of the time. That could be mostly because I block it being in riding position.

Thanks all..

Avc,
I haven't tested it yet, but am confident it will work. I think all they need is a clear path with the flat side facing up toward the receiver. I my license plate mount ezpass behind the grill of my P38 Range Rover, it works fine.

@Hogzilla,
I can't see myself getting rich selling these, but stranger things have happened.

pm me if you want one...

I have mine mounted behind the fairing above the head lights. I use one of the waterproof license plate models for my bike. It fits nicely there. I just put a few zip ties to hold it down. never had a problem with the tag not reading.

Not sure how true it is, but a friend told me if your vehicle's tags are registered to the ezpass tag you wont get a ticket if it doesnt read. Over the summer I drove down the Garden state Parkway to the shore and back. We went through probably 6 tolls without my tag(left it sitting on my work bench). Never got any of those nasty little fines in the mail.

It does work that way, atleast for PA and NJ. I have done the same thing. Not sure how long they will put up with it though.

True, not like I am going to just leave it home all the time. But its nice to know you wont get penalized if it doesnt read occasionally.

After going thru with it mounted in the pod and not registering I called the svc center and they told me not to worry.
That being said, I believe it states on the website that repeated misuse can be subject to penalty fees.

I keep my easy pass in the top pocket of my backpack. It has never failed me. No modifications or anything. I drive into Philadelphia from NJ and pay tolls with it everytime. best thing is I dont have to worry about it blowing off or getting lifted in the city of KILLadelphia

Here in MA with the Fastlane pass, if it doesn't read, or at least in my case, for a few weeks, they charge a $1 fee to to each transaction.

I can attest to EZPass theft. On the way home from the AMA race at NJMP last September someone boosted one of mine right off my bike at a McDonalds parking lot.

I noticed immediately and canceled it. Still cost me $25.

exactly why mine is under the fairing. Not sure why that would work better then in the pod. Arent then supposed to be with the flat side up for best reading? I could be making that up. Hence why you mount it on you wind shield on a cage?

Jornum1, in Illinois it's called a VTOLL on your account. Technically, you could drive around without it as much as you'd like as long as your plates are registered. The toll is the same as if you had your pass on the bike. However, if there is a gate, you're stuck.

When I come to toll booths with gates I usually go to the pay line just in case it doesn't register. I usually carry mine. Fortunately there aren't too many any more that have gates.

I have to keep mine someplace I an access it. I frequent MTA crossings in NY and they all have gates. They also don't register motorcycles most of the time. The guy comes over and takes the ACTUAL EZpass and shoves it in a box to read. This would be tough if it was jammed in a fairing/pod/etc.

I think the flat side up thing is true. I had a holder that held it flat side down and it never registered. Turned it flat side up in a bag and it registered. Also, I think it helps to have it slightly to the left of the bike or tilted that way.

I don't own one myself, but I hear the IL I-Pass works just great if it's in your jacket pocket.

Can someone else verify?

Milt, I have the I-PASS, haven't had any luck with the jacket pocket, but have only tried it once and then stopped when it didn't work. Weight of jacket, placement, which side was facing where... could be other factors involved. Would have to experiment more to know for sure. If I remember right I was wearing a heavier leather Joe Rocket jacket.

I never even thought about a toll gate...
Just did this for the lack of anything better to do. The velcro that sticks to the plastic headlamp support didn't stick that well (it was some old shit I had laying around)and pulled off with the ezpass. If it would stay where it's put, I wouldn't see a problem with pulling it out of there quickly and easily in a pinch. Don't know if it would fit in a box to be read though...

I have an XB12R and just leave it under the passenger seat - works every time.

When I had the Uly I stuck it to the inside of the top box lid - that worked too.
