Hi all,

I am looking to make my 1125R a bit more comfortable. My plans are as such.

I ordered a Buell custom seat for XB/1125.
Unfortunately the Custom Touring Pillion is discontinued, which would have been good for a little back support.

I intend to order the Billet XB/1125 1" drop footpegs and the Thick Gel Handlebar grips from American Sport Bike. I am also seriously considering the new Raised Handlebars and accompanying cables.

Since I don't really know how long I will keep this bike, my question is this: what mods are acceptable to a potential buyer?

Thanks
Peter

First question, where did you find the seat? I've looked everywhere for that thing.

Second, make the changes you feel will make the ride enjoyable. If you do it for someone else, you will want to get rid of it sooner than you would otherwise. Make it comfortable for yourself and know that a motorcycle isn't an appreciating asset. What you are talking about would be something others would want, however don't do this...

Depends on the buyer. I have a points system. Anything that can't be put back to stock in less than 5 minutes, loses a point. So just in case I don't like it or is problematic, I can undo it. TFI units are known to cause all sorts of headaches on the XB's.

I wouldn't worry about a seat or footpegs hurting the appeal of a bike. Aftermarket exhaust makes me wonder "Ok, did he at least get it tuned for the pipe or did he run this thing for 6000 miles extra lean?". Then you start getting into things like people throwing on aftermarket radiator pods. How do you know they were installed right? You could get 20 miles down the road and either have a hose rupture or a pod fall off or so on.

Custom paint can be iffy. You would need to find a buyer that has the same taste as you. I don't want flames and skulls on my bike, I rather have lightning bolts and have my red pods detailed to look like lobster claws.

Personally, if you don't plan on keeping it, stop sinking money into it.

I really like the bike but I really wanted a CR because of the registration costs. Here in Quebec it costs $520 annually to register and plate a CR and $1100 for an R. That is going up to $1400 per year according to the DOT.
Even though I much prefer the looks of the R, I would trade it for a CR if I could. This is the only reason I would consider selling or trading my R...

That would give me incredible pause when buying a bike and deciding on which model. That's nuts.

I think Froggy's comments are spot on if that's the case. At least you could swap most of it to the CR. I'd hold off on the bars unless it's really uncomfortable.

Froggy's system should be universal. I think the clubmans are the better choice for the CR. I have the high bar kit it doesn't suck at all, but if you are ridin hard the clubmanns are better. I am a porty well no I am a fat bastid and thought the comfort would be better and it is with the high bars. But if I whack the throttle it wants to stand up to easy now and its tough to get used to. I also like being over the top of my machine in the twisties the control is better, for me.

Ha-HA funny shite! GLAD THAT'S NOT MINE!!!! lol

Peter: lets trade fairings! but yours would still be considered a R as per the VIN

Froggy is a genius...

and I'd paint my bike pink with tassels... Blackflash would too or maybe just do tassels...

Captain,

If it would work, I'd swap fairings but like you said the DOT people know from the VIN number what to classify my bike as and then charge me.

lastonetherebuys, What do you mean exactly?

just if you don't look for ways to make your ride more comfortable you deff don put enough miles on it try doing an iron butt run and tell me that you wouldn't love mods to help with comfort

where are your feet in relation to the foot pegs?

Is your peg under your arch or is the ball of your foot over the peg?

I do a 150 mile round trip commute to work 5 days a week and i find the ride plenty comfortable.

I usually wear converse allstars so with such a thin soled shoe my feet end up getting a little sore so I move my feet around on the pegs. With regular shoes though i have no problems

"Balls of your feet" is for spirited and higher rides.
On the peg at the arch or front of the heel is good for commuting/Freeway riding.
Fits the Pod recess perfectly for me while tucked.

That's why I like the Uly pegs, I do more slabbing than mountain twisties.

Zack
