I have to say they have some appeal to me, probably mostly because they came out the Buell factory, but also I've always had a soft spot for thumpers (used to have a BSA 441 among others).

Any folks out there with experience with both, or thoughts on it? I know they're entirely different bikes, but with that said, do they have any endearing qualities? Certainly can find them for sale cheap enough...

the one i have was fun to ride. not thrilling, but just fun.
it was ignored after the primary rider took a spill, and has not run since.
the carb is a big step down from FI. i guess i'm spoiled.

The Blast is an awesome bike, I ride/wear one every chance I get (I'm 6'4", I *have* to sit on the passenger seat).

No speed demon, to be sure...but light, agile, balanced...and anything with nearly 90 degrees of lock to lock steering has GOT to be fun!

I have a Blast I use for commuting. 85mpg, $50 tires, and because I paid next to nothing for it, I don't care if someone hits it when I part at work.

Also, on the local roads near my house, I am faster on my Blast than my XB and 1125's.

I used one as a "loaner" while the dealer worked on my M2. I thought it was really fun. So light you didn't have to slow for corners!

Light, forgiving, simple, bullet-proof and a ton of fun.

And you don't have to drop the engine to change a freaking spark plug !

My first bike was a Blast. Traded it in with my xb9s deal, and I have now added an 1125r. The blast was ..well, a blast. East to ride, good learner bike for me and when it fell over on me one day it wasn't the end of the world.

I would LOVE to get a Blast. Unfortunately I don't see deals of the same magnitude as on the 1125's after the Announcement. They seem to be awfully proud of the few new Blasts that I've seen.

I learned to ride on Blast and then bought a XB12Ss. Just picked up an 1125Cr. Would love to go for the hat trick but don't see it happening. : (

The Blasts were not included in the so called "Fire Sale" of the Buell's.I did however get 2000.00 off a used one and bought my 09 r and the 09 blast for my wife the same day.

Not only were the Blasts not Fire Saled<sic>, the XB's didn't see the same discounts as the 1125's. At least not the ones I saw.

I have my version also of an XBBlast that is starting to flesh out. The Blast is the basics done right, leaving a solid platform to start modifications off of. The CR will hardly be touched except for maintenance, and the occasionally upgraded part.

I wish I hadn't traded in the Mighty Blast...It was a hoot to ride...just be sure if you get a used one that the transmission is in good condition...a lot of the ones that were used for riders edge have issues from all the tip overs and forgetting to pull the clutch before slamming it into gear.

Fast,

Exactly why I was only interested in new late model Blasts or possibly with < 500 miles although those don't seem much cheaper.

I ran mine with no mercy...and it never broke...but I am a stickler for maintenance...I serviced it often and replaced any part that seems remotely like it was having a problem.

Understand that "broke" means leaving me stranded...that never happened...It did eat a couple of front isolators...but that was partly because of my riding style and partly because of the stock isolator being whimpy....if you get a Blast...buy a -79D big twin isolator and install it when the stocker dies...easy to do...and the -79D will not fail...

I got mine for $1500. It was running like crap when I got it, as the previous owner let it sit 2 years with the gas on (stale). I lacked a truck/trailer, so I rode it home. It was bucking like a bronco, wouldn't idle, etc. I gave it a nice Italian tuneup and its good as new. It has a slight intake leak (common issue), and I just have been too lazy to fix it.

My Blast never left me stranded. I'm even using the original battery (it's an '02).

Not much goes wrong with one cylinder and a carb.

I learned to wrench on this bike and discovered the golden rule: never do anything that won't make the bike noticeably faster or more fun.

Italian tuneup is a bit of a joke, basically it means you beat the crap out of it and flog it as much as possible. From Wikipedia:

quote:

An Italian tuneup usually refers to a process whereby the operator of a motor vehicle runs the engine at full load for extended periods in order to burn carbon buildup from the combustion chambers and exhaust system. It is performed after a traditional tuneup and often accompanied by an addition of fuel system cleaner to the fuel tank. It is particularly useful for vehicles that are only operated at low speeds on short journeys, and for diesel vehicles prior to emissions testing.
