Took the bike for the second time regarding the engine running HOT..and to also get the latest flash.

The bike ran well after the flash but it was still getting a bit Warm Specially since it has been in the mid 70s here in Central TX.

So this weekend I decided to recheck the coolant and actually burp the coolant system. And why was I not surprised that the coolant reservoir was bone dry. No apparent leaks anywhere, just no attention to detail.

Where is the Coolant?

And to top it off I just discovered I have a leaky clutch cover issue as well

I've had to top mine off 3 times in 1,000 miles. I pretty sure there is a slow leak somewhere in the system, but I can't see it.

I checked the coolant before and it was maybe 1/3 low from the factory.

I will recheck again in a month depending on how much I ride the Bike.

It just sucks that not even a dealer takes price in their work.

thanks for the heads up!

I just went out and checked the coolant level on the bikes and while the coolant level was fine on the z1000 and the cr, i didn't find a single drop on my xb! Should i be alarmed?

My overflow was bone dry too. I think they left the factory that way.

Mine has never run hot, but now that I've switched over to Water Wetter, bled the system, and topped off the overflow, it runs a good 20 degrees cooler. About 174 degrees.

There is a technician in the UK that reckons that they all leak from the pump itself ...

My CR was low coolant when I took the pod cover off at Buelltoberfest, but it never ran hot, in fact on my way home I had it say "CT COLD" a few times while coasting down hills.

I haven't checked my 08 R yet.

Check the FSM the T-stat housing has a "vent"?? line I had a leak, a hose, heat shrink clamp, thermostat, and housing were warrantied,

when I get settled after the first of the year I plan on giving my'25 an intense scrutiny, do any of you smell anti freze when the engine gets hot?

My overflow was low / empty too when the bike was new. I kept scrutinizing the "window" inside the pod & couldn't for the life of me see anything. I figured it was either WAY full or WAY below the window. I filled it up, but haven't checked it since... Maybe that's what I should do next.

My other plan is to pick up a LED light of some sort & wire it up behind the coolant tank, so it'll be easy to check. Haven't gotten around to that yet though.

No. Or at least you aren't supposed to. A capful per quart. Follow label directions.

I would just use whatever the directions say. Putting more in than necessary doesn't help lower temps. The lower temps are from running more water. I'd only use water wetter if you are going to straight water. I mixed it with some coolant in my mustang and it didn't mix well and it didn't seem to do anything as far as lowering coolant temps. Redline WW doesn't like the Ford coolant. It mixed fine with the prestone in my intercooler.

I just remembered that I had a bottle in the garage..Forgot that I had it when I was doing the coolant inspection.

I just filled up with DI water. I will test as is for now..and when those 100+F come around I will definitely have Water Wetter in.

I got two gallons of distilled water, poured some out, and dumped in half a bottle of Water Wetter in each jug.

Not scientific, but it works. The Water Wetter will lubricate the pump, so more can't hurt.

Just be warned, Water Wetter IS NOT anti-freeze. I don't ride in sub freezing temps, and my bike is parked inside my house (70-74 degrees year round). I don't worry about freezing.

Picked mine up rode 100 miles to the house several days later I pulled the pod and found the overflow dry.

I don't believe it ever had any in it. There were no stains or lines of any kind.

So next I pulled the rad cap and it was low by about an inch.

Filled both up and so far so good.

I just bought a new CR. What is the scoop with the checking of the fluid? I had asked the dealer and the sales person believe it not , did not know where to do it. Do you have to take off the pod cover? On the manual, it looks like you can look into the right hand side pod?

Rex: You're looking in the right place. That's why I was suggesting the lighting behind the overflow tank. Otherwise you have to fumble with a flashlight while looking inside the pod at the round white disc. It would make it a quick & easy check. Anytime. Anywhere. Without getting any light to the tank, it's hard to see if there is anything sloshing around in it.

Littlebutquick: I agree. It's starting to seem like this is one of those things that is commonly overlooked.

I've bought my bikes from 2 main dealers, who had very good customer service & service departments and have taken care of me on many occasions for issues that I've heard other people turned away for. And still I've had several little things like this slip by at the point of purchase.

here in Italy we had a little poll among ourboard: 4 of 10 were completely dry, 2 were under the low level and 4 were ok8all under 8000 km). We discovered that the bikes are shipped almost without liquids, and if the dealer doesn't check the bikes before sell them..
anyway, the seals oof the liquid circuit aren't the bes I've ever seen.

Ps: my brand new xb, when I checked the oil after 3 km, was completely dry.

You guys know its common for new vehicles to come with the bare minimum in fluids right? It saves the factory the $1 per bike. The simple fact that the bottle is under the pod means that its out of sight and less likely to be checked for the hell of it by a dealer tech.

And, IMHO, the problem is exacerbated by the WAY Buell placed the overflow tank: with a quickly-removable cover, as on many motorbikes including my three 1980s Hondas, it's quick and easy to ensure that the tank is full. Buell 'broke something that was already fixed' with their 'innovative' (and I use the term reservedly) methodology that uses a viewing port inside the r/h radiator pod.
