I picked up a Contour HD video camera. Solid state, Micro SD camera with mounts for helmet or bike. It has 2 modes, either HD 970p @ 26 fps or SD @ 30fps.

I mounted it up on the helmet and went out for a ride on the CR on Hwy 125 in Missouri.

Here is the iPod format of the video. I am working on uploading the full res to youtube.

nice footage, but (with all the respect) i would be very frustratet with no mountain or any cool turns.

here is mine:

made with a helmet mounted (self-made mount) powershot tx1. quality is hd (but compressed here for iphone).

the road is in switzerland up to the "grimselpass"

looks good! If you can i'd like to hear the bike AND the music, but not just music. Not sure how much more difficult that is...

cool gizmo! I was looking at the new HD Hero as a posibility, but it's much bigger than the Contour!

very difficult. you need to place the mic near the engine or exhaust, but still then you hear just wind noise...

Nice video, what was the output file? 720p or what? I am trying to get the best quality video uploaded to the web. Any suggestions?

btw, I like the idea of an all video thread. We ought to keep something like that going.

Broke my collar bone on that rode down near swan creek. Was doing about 60 MPH on a Honda Interceptor and wiped out on a curve. Rookie mistake. Very good road though. Goes through the Twain National Forest on the south end. Makes me miss Missouri!

I thought I missed CA roads until I bought my 09R and purposefully got lost here in S/W Missouri (Ozarks). Turns out there are some NICE sportbike country highways around here, and hardly a cager in sight. I like the M & U intersection area (Jamesville, old church on the corner), and taking U down to A and riding to the river. There's a little Hwy N (Boaz) that connects K & M as well, pretty cool little run. Nice vids guys!!

I really like the Contour HD camera as well. I am still deciding the purchase as the wind noise is a very dominant con of the whole package. After doing some research I found a guy who used a earplug to reduce the wind noise levels dramatically. Here is his write-up:

http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~crashman/ContourH D%20Microphone%20modification.htm

In addition to the earplug foam he used to aid with the wind I would also line the inner housing with a good quality microphone windscreen instead of the low density foam.

The video quality of the Contour is top notch and I feel that with a little creativity and persistence you could eliminate a lot of the wind noise.

You guys kill me. Some of the most gorgeous scenery ever in a helmet cam vid and the geeks (no offense intended) are asking about resolution.

I have gots to ride me some Alpine passes! Schweet!

Freight,
Being the OP of this thread, I was very much taken back by the quality and beauty of CB second post.

I am in need of some, ahem technical help when it comes to this type of video... sorry for hijacking my own thread

I think?

@slowride: if you use a mac, then just upload the video by imovie to youtube, it finds the best resolution and compression.

the tv-format is just brilliant, but annoying to watch, the head-movements just brings you a tremendous headache.
