We aren't children are we?

I am seriously trying to find POSITIVE FEEDBACK on problems we have all encountered and the fixes that have been suggested or offered and have had positive results.

With the Buell Co. closing it has created many new owners of our chosen steeds.

I don't need to be an engineer to fix'em and I don't need to banter words endlessly about to prove who is smarter than whom. That doesn't fix anything.

I try and take care of my customers Buells (and harleys).

So....

Beyond what I researched here at badweb...as anyone found a really good for problem issues.
I believe the best ...recomendation on fuel boiling is heat reflective tape near the rear header so far.

I would love to hear if any other methods have been tried.

With all the new 1125r/cr owners this issue will come up again and probably most common.

I have only really seen three major issues...so far and those are:

1. Fuel boiling.

2. Turn signals

3. Clutch fluid leak.

Finally the turn signal issue was fixed.

and a fix for the clutch with a new seal design.

Have heard about :

1. false nuetral.

2. Instrument cluster issues.

3. bearings.

4. fuel pump issues.

5. other issues have been resolved with reflashes.

I don't want to bandy about with a bunch of children.

Instead of browbeating the dealers and nitpicking on words lets pass on the repairs or best fixes to the problems we have encountered.

We aren't children are we?

My personal opinion on the heat shielding is that it will only slow the heat sink properties of the frame. It might work on a short ride, but if you ride long enough I am sure the frame will heat up.

I did the heat shielding and ceramic coated headers. The frame does heat up, but not as badly as it did before I took those steps. Plus, why not? It cost me $10 for the shielding and I was going to rotate the engine to put the new headers in anyway.

Buzzie,

I don't know what you want from people. When people have had specific fixes, they've shared them (I've posted several problems and fixes in my response to you -- water in tail lights, battery draining, mirror adjustment limits, etc.).

Instead of browbeating Buell customers, how about telling us when a new flash or TSB comes out on our bikes? How about posting a copy of, or a link to, the 2010 MY Technical Changes document from HD/Buell (I've seen it in print)? How about telling us us whether it's worthwhile to retrofit the new lower cam chain guides and the common cam chain tensioners from the 2010 MY technical changes?

We're trying to work with you here, but how about meeting us half way?

P.S. Starting a thread with a temper tantrum and name calling while claiming that other people are acting like children -- not really the best choice.

Buzzie -
First issue was my own doing.
Forgot to tighten the muffler bolt behind the idler.
The bolt backed out and locked-up the idler for 10 miles.
That cost me a belt, use Loctite!

IC(08) died, switch caved in, BMC replaced IC(09 with gear indicator - bonus!).

Bad exhaust cam found at 12.4k service.
BMC replaced on warranty.

Front brake LINE OK when checked, but hose wore into fork leg.
Parts are in, waiting on lift-time.

Clutch dribble - parts are in for this also.

Fuel level sensor out of range, I get constant LFL-CEL combo on IC, DTC is B1005.
Waiting for Diagnosis by Service so parts can be ordered on warranty fix.

Consistent rideability issues, Loretta's a slow learner.
O.S.B. tune fixed that.

Hope this helps.

Zack

With all newsgroups I've been a member of (Vettes, Vipers, HD/Buell, whatever) I've found the trick is to ignore the noise at both the edges, the non-objective stuff that doesn't keep with reality and observable trends. Kinda works that way with politics now that I think about it.

The threads here taught me a lot, and I enjoy contributing. I can understand folks being upset that a bike is in the shop often, but I'd say the majority aren't. Supportive dealers are always going to make for a better overall experience, which is why you'll usually see me encouraging those that visibly support the Buell community.

Having just ridden through an entire summer with my 09 1125R (some of it in our famous bumper-to-bumper traffic) I can honestly say I didn't notice any excessive heat issues at all...? I haven't done anything special with the bike, either. Bone stock except for the carbon fiber pieces from American Sport Bike.

A technician trying to find better ways to help the many new owners of 1125s is not browbeating Fmax.

To my knowledge I don't have the right to reprint copyrighted material..and telling folks how to repair there bikes on a regular basis kinda undermines my whole career.

And now you've got me bandying words about again.

Don't contribute if you don't like my methods. I do not have the time to research all of the buell problems found..I still have more than a handful of Harley problems to learn about, find, and fix.

Thanks for those who came up with new issues I have not heard about nor seen.

"I don't have the right to reprint copyrighted material"

I wouldn't ask you to. If there's no link to be shared, then there's no link.

"and telling folks how to repair there bikes on a regular basis kinda undermines my whole career."

But you want the benefit of their knowledge and experiences.

"Don't contribute if you don't like my methods."

In case you forgot, I was the first person who answered your earlier request and I provided as much information as I had. Then I read this thread with the name calling ("children"), snide remarks about engineers, and bemoaning the fact the people complained about poor dealer service experiences.

I, too, am a little confused with what your purpose is?

Helping doesn't give you the right to call other children. It's a forum, that's how it goes. You build cred.

So, have I got this right? You're a licensed mechanic at a dealer and you wish to ignore your own resources, manuals and support, and get our info. Then you can help your own customers and get short with us if we don't jump, bandying you called it.

There are many other mechanics on this board who have earned their stripes.

Each forum has thread titles which indicate its content. Resolutions are in there, or not.

Refreshing the forum list gives you a list of the common issues and resolves.

Some people here make a master list on an Excel file. Maybe that's what you should be doing instead of demanding that we put together a list for you.

But thanks anyway.

Let's all take a breath here. Buzzie has gone out of his way to help me in the other thread so it's not as cut and dried as it appeared to be at first here.

Personal opinion here: I think that a mechanic needs to fully participate, freely sharing information with the group, or go into receive-only (lurker) mode. What doesn't work is asking for help and information from forum users while not providing it himself.

I think that Buzzie is being a little too protective of his turf: Most people don't do their own wrenching on bikes -- especially new models like the 1125 series. If I decided that a job was outside my capabilities, required specialized tools I did not have, or would just require more time than I had, I'd gladly take it to a mechanic who was a participant here -- one who showed he knew his stuff and was a good guy to deal with. Again, that's just my personal opinion on it.

What Fred said.

For example, if a mechanic described just how intricate a procedure is, I just might have him do the work. Or if I try myself and screw it up, hey, he still gets the job, only a much bigger one no doubt.

Even with all the banter and defense and sticking up for fellow HD mechanics. The jury is still out on who is really dedicated on working on Buells.

None the less I will still take my ride to a dedicated Sportbike enthusiast mechanic whom all day long wrenches on sportbikes and not cruisers. HD will only see warranty work from me.

Same here. My Ducati dealer is getting used to the idea.
