I tried searching for this so I apologize if this is in a previous thread.

My "former" dealer offers 2500, 5000, 10000 mile service plans running from 195 - 600 dollars. I've never owned a new bike but it seems like the service they provide isn't really worth it. Can anyone give me any insight on Harley's maintnenance services. Personally, I would rather find my own mechanic now that I have lost confidence in HD and since my dealership SUCKS. I know in the buell manual it recommends service at 620, 6200, etc. Which one should I be following?

Find yourself a sportbike only mechanic that is dedicated on working on sportbikes. They will know how to fix, serivice and diagnose certain issues than a guy that works on cruisers primarily and really doesnt like working on sportbikes which most if not all our dealer service techs are. They just dont like working on them. The day they knew Buell got dropped secretly they are jumping for Joy.

Get the service manual. Learn how to do a few simple things. The rest let your mechanic borrow it. Even if they dont regularly work on a Rotax motor or have much experience on Buells. They will by far do a lot better attention to detail on the bike.

For instance my guy is from an engineering background. Even though he does not work on Buells that often. He has worked on every other sportbike. Japanese, European imaginable. Are Bikes are only 2 years old anyway so every mechanic will be in the same boat on how to work on them. I rather give it to a guy that is passionate about sportbikes. Just use the dealers for warranty issues.

I am sorry to say such things but guess what its the truth its hard to support dealers through and through when there is constant horror stories of their service operations. Even the best dealers that know customer service and will take care of problems and issues when something does occur. Dont know how to improve mechanical service so it doesnt get to the complaint point. The techs just dont care enough about the Buell's or want to be the best mechanic they can be for Buell's.
