The weather is only going to get weirder.
It's not the second coming, it's not global warming.

The North and South poles are overdue for a switch.
As the poles change positions, we are going to have global turmoil, weatherwise.

Unknown is whether it will be a slow or fast switch.

Zack

Metalrabbit, you say that you "KNOW" I'm wrong. Based on what? The vast scientific knowledge you've amassed while doing plumbing?

I have helped build satellites to measure greenhouse gases and the vegetation canopy on the Earth. I've worked with top scientists at JPL/NASA. Unlike those on the right, I don't form my opinions based on ramblings from drugged out talk radio hosts and extremist web sites.

As far as killing people who can't afford heat, you do recognize that the cost of energy is related to how much is used, don't you? The reason that poor people can't afford fuel oil and natural gas is because people like you kick and scream whenever anyone tries to do something to reduce energy demand.

If we cut our fuel usage in half in the U.S., how much do you think it would cost for heating oil? Supply and demand -- it's Econ 101 stuff.

We've heard it all before. First, any kind of EPA limits on auto emissions would make all cars too expensive to buy. Then fuel economy standards would mean that the average American could never afford a car. Then taking lead out of gasoline would destroy our economy. Then reducing sulfur in diesel would destroy the trucking industry. Just leave science to scientists.

If you think that the EPA and scientists are so crazy, then just move to Love Canal, where land is probably very cheap.

Umm - actually, there's a consumer surplus on fossil fuels - mostly due to the fact that Saudi Arabia cuts production to maintain OPEC-set price levels.

Should oil demand drop, OPEC simply raises the price to what they want to net, based on the basic idea of what the market will bear, and should supply outstrip demand, then Saudi Arabia cuts production.

When you're in an oligopoly, the basic rules of supply and demand don't apply, as the market forces have already been distorted for the benefit of the producers.

But wow - calling out a guy for being a plumber? You're a real jerk, man. I know guys in the trade industries who can dance circles around you in any number of topics.

But since you're still an Econ101 guy, we'll just let you have your day in the sun. Enjoy the smug.

@Speedy818

You wrote: "But wow - calling out a guy for being a plumber? You're a real jerk, man."

, Speedy818.

Metalrabbit called me "wacky," "dangerous," "deadly" and accused me of being "partly responsible for KILLING Hundreds of Thousands of People!" I didn't call him out for being a plumber -- I called him out for talking out of his *** about a subject that he knew nothing about.

"I know guys in the trade industries who can dance circles around you in any number of topics."

But this isn't one of them. And you didn't see me telling him that he didn't know **** about his profession, did you?

P.S. Non-OPEC countries such as Russia, Norway and Mexico have increased production while new oil fields have been discovered in Africa and South America. The world's top-10 oil producing countries has less than 50% OPEC membership (last I read, only 3 of the top 10 were OPEC members). So OPEC is not the all-powerful entity that they were in the 1970s.

Hey Rombi,

I'm in Appleton, if you've got any questions on the bike feel free to drop me a line. I've worked on the James Gang Racing 1125 a couple times.

@Metalrabbit: "It's all blah,blah,blah to me Fmaxwell"

There's a big surprise.

"You think you and your friends have the gray matter to take on the operation of the entire planet?!?"

No. I think that science can help guide government policy and legislation with regard to air pollution, water pollution, deforestation, fuel economy standards, renewable energy, etc. I think that's far preferable to anarchy where everyone does everything they want without regards to how it affects others, both now and in the future.

"This planet, and the entire Universe, is trying to tell you ONE thing! To[sic] bad you don't know what that is."

Sorry dude, but you're the one who's hearing voices in your head -- not me.

None of this has come to pass, and there is no statistically significant data that shows any movement in that direction that cannot be fully explained by the random, chaotic nature of the weather on this planet.

There is simply NOT the data to show that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

i wonder who we can blame for the ice age..mmphhh...if the earth cooled w/o humans...maybe its going to swing the other way...just a thought

You go hanging higher cost on energy, denying the use of some energy sources, In the middle of a Deep cold cycle! You may just be partly responsible for KILLING Hundreds of Thousands of People!

You "think" your right, I "Know" you're WRONG!Whatever you try to do, To Fix ANYTHING, Will Have ZERO effect,, 'cept for killing and starving mankind.

Wow these are all very well thought out and soundly researched hypothesis in fact I just may use this for my research at the university! Please do yourselves a favor and do some true unbiased scientific research before you shoot your mouths off and play the part of true idiots. If there is one thing we, as Americans are good at its making the rest of our population look like total dumb*sses. So please, get some facts and then come argue your points and at least act halfway intelligent!

Oh yeah, and to the original poster.....
Im in Oshkosh and would gladly help out a fellow Bueller. }

"facts", your facts are useless, if they were any good, why would you have to argue them?

For the same reason that Christopher Columbus had to argue that the Earth was round, that Galileo had to argue that the sun was the center of the solar system, and that doctors had to argue that smoking causes cancer; Because there have always been, and continue to be, idiots who reject science because it doesn't reach the conclusion that they want it to. And, sadly, in our society, even people too stupid to understand science at a grade school level are still allowed to vote.

It was a fact that the Earth was round before Columbus even left. The sun was in the center of the solar system before any of us could verify it.

I discovered that following every dip in the pavement theres an oil spot, yeeha!

Its what you and most scientist "reject" is what bothers me. You don't realize that all this, everything around you, was put here for your discovery, for your study, in the hope that you'll make the Ultimate Discovery. If I have to sit around here and listen to your religion all the time, your gunna get a dose of mine too.

Cold this morning, looking at getting a riding suit today, if it fits me that is.
Hey Chris I think I talked to you last year I was going to buy a Uly from the salvage yard but passed and you bought the wrecked 1125R, how did that thing turn out for you?

Tom-hey I remember you now! Yeah I picked up the 1125 and I rebuilt it and put it on the track already this year. I still have a few things I want to do to it before I race it.

Hey I noticed you said you were looking at getting a riding suit today. Let me tell ya, I bought the Tourmaster Transition jacket and the Tourmaster Venture pants and I have ridden in many sub 30 degree days with that setup (in fact riding today as well). If you want to check out my gear let me know. Its reasonably priced too, the whole setup costs maybe 350 and they do zip together.

Here is a pic of the 1125 in action...
