Ok, so I have 118 miles on my 09 CR and when I arrived at work today I looked it over and have a good ammount of oil coming out of the rear cylinder. I checked it cold 4 hrs after shutdown and it reads halfway between add and full. I am figuring it is an overservice condition from reading threads on here. My question is, what damage could this have caused?

it also seemed to be dripping from the tube by the left side passenger foot peg. I don't know if that is related or not. I witnessed what I would consider to be a pretty large ammount of oil behind the rear cylinder, and dripping down off the kickstand.

the tube on the passenger peg bracket is for the gas tank vent, so it's not dripping oil, but gas.

I drained my oil, added 3 quarts, but have not started it yet. I did a cold check just to see where it was with no oil up in the filter area and it's right at the full line. So if yours is reading below the full line, then It's probably got the correct amount of oil in it, at least now it does. You are supposed to check it hot, just wanted to make it clear that I'm not recommending checking your oil cold.

You are checking it with the bike level right?

Yes I checked it on level ground. I had to get into work so I couldn't do the hot check. I went out on break and did the cold and with it being halfway up the stick, and a puddle around the bike I figured it must have been overfilled. I may be wrong and hopefully the dealer can figure out what went wrong. I am just trying to figure out myself what the cause and the damage could be.

By level, I meant with the bike upright, not resting on the kickstand.

Typically the cold check will barely register on the dipstick when full of oil.
Half-way up the stick when cold is almost certainly too much oil.

yes, I followed the procedure and held it upright for a minute or two and then checked it, it was halfway to overfull.

Ok, so I just got off the phone with the dealer. They picked the bike up last night and I was wondering when they were going to get around to looking at it. They said that they already have looked at it and part is on order overnight. The service guy said "It was leaking from a screw that is on the rear head, there is a metal sleeve that the screw goes into and the sleeve was damaged allowing oil to leak through it" Do you guys have any idea what this "screw" could be?

Yeah, it seemed odd to me. Hopefully they can show me or at least give me a part number so I can understand

Ok, got the bike back today. They said it was a faulty seal (crush washer) on the cam tensioner. It doesn't show it in the above diagram but it was on the lower left side of the rear of the rear cylinder. I rode it about 20 mile to test it out on the way home and she is dry for now. Hopefully she will stay this way on the way into work. I mentioned something about there was a recall on some of those and they said that none of the bikes they recieved had needed that recall.

Did they use different dipsticks on the R and CR or change to a different dipstick? My dipstick doesn't look like the picture in the 08 manual and the 09 manual has my dipstick pictured. I put in 3 quarts and it was to at least the max mark when cold, almost to the over filled mark when hot.

The 08 manual states 3 quarts, the 09 at the top of the main page states 2.7 quarts.

This is mostly in reply to Zac4mac's post regarding a cold check.
