I'm a member of a few boards {non Buell} and I can't get over all the "BUell haters" out there primarily when it comes to racing, it's the whole cheater bike BS! they will bitch and bitch about Buell but no one will say a word about the RSV! sure, it wold be nice if Buell had 20+ years of building high HP motors like Duc and could run in the open class but no one is even giving them a chance!

You can educate honest ignorance but you cannot educate the unwilling. People are upset, it's going to continue for a while.

The best thing we have going for us is results and facts. You can argue theories and concepts all day. But at the end of the day results are truth. That is what people are afraid of. I just try and let it fade into the background noise. Try not to get to upset over it.

It's sour grapes.

If their bike doesn't win, they want to take their ball and go home.

The way I see it, if anyone feels like the rules aren't fair, then exploit them to your advantage. Would love to see Honda bring back the RC51 or Suzuki bring back the TL1000R, but it's not profitable. They have too much invested in their I4 bikes, and anything else winning might make people realize that there are other bikes out there besides I4s and Ducatis.

Yeah, and when Spies and Mladin were running unobtanium parts on their bike that even billionaire Michael Jordon couldn't buy because the "weren't for sale", and they were winning by 30 seconds a race, I never heard one complaint from anyone. Seems like that would be an "unfair advantage".

Nope...it's just Buell hate. People either love Buells or hate them. I don't know why. I've even ridden with guys who try like hell to shake me, and they are surprised when I don't fade away or break down. I've been told, "Man, you must be one heck of a rider to keep up on that thing" (referring to my Ulysses). I smile and tell them that Buells are one of the easiest bikes in the world to ride fast. I've owned just about every other brand, and Buell is so easy to go fast on, it IS like cheating. : )

I ran off and left a Gixxer 1000 in the high twisties of the Ozarks on an XB12r! What is that, a 2:1 ratio of power, his vs. mine?

The real issue was the dood just couldn't ride, but there was no telling him that his bike wasn't the fastest.

"Oh, I'm not feeling well. Oh, you know these roads better". Please.

Me: "Uh, no...Oh, you can't ride!" : )

Buells *are* fun to ride. Guys that can't believe how we can keep up just don't understand that it's 1. all about the rider and being comfortable, and 2. having fun. It's just not about the machine at all.

Ride what makes you smile at speed.

I've converted almost all of my friends that have any kind of interest in motorcycles. Buells are very good on the street where 99% of the population rides and if they want to get stuck in the Japanese I4 mentality forever then that is their loss.

I genuinely find most IL4 fan boys lacking in imagination if not any real knowledge of motorcycles.

The Big Four have brainwashed an entire population of motorcyclists that there are only two flavors:

600 and 1000

Anything else is a lesser bike.

I have ridden IL4 bikes. I don't find them particularly exciting. I don't get the feed back that I do from v-twins.

The really great thing is that I don't secretly (or overtly) seek the end of IL4 motorcycles.

I really wish the fan boy crowd felt the same.

An inline four that's "tuned for torque" is fun to ride too. I had an FJR1300 that was unbelievable. Made power like a twin. Redline was at 9000rpm. But it was in a 635lb bike that I constantly dragged the mufflers on.

Two friends of mine have an FZ1 and love them. I've not ridden it yet, but I'm betting it's a very fun bike.

I simply like the lumpy feel feel of a twin and how they make power. I've ridden big inline fours, and they are so damn fast they are scary. I guess I'm just not good enough to ride a race replica literbike. 160rwhp would get me hurt in a hurry. Heck, the power the 1125 lays down is more than plenty for me. I'm still about half scared of the thing. : )

There was an article a while back in one of the cycle mags that they took an R1 and stripped it down to a naked standard with dirtbike bars, upright and all. Lower gearing too. It was something like 30+ pounds lighter than stock, and was an absolute blast. That'd be the thing for me!

I think it's interesting that this seems so common. Everyone I rise with locally ride on IL4 platform bikes, and are all into racing (some watch only, and some participate as well). Not one of them have this opinion.

I have heard the "cheater bike" comment maybe twice, but it was completely isolated to giving me a hard time. Admittedly, I deserve it since I'm always telling them how inferior their bikes are to my beautiful American machine.

Cheater Bike,

That's pretty funny. Now, I am no conspiracy theorist, but I remember when I was a kid, there were a lot more motorcycle manufacturers than now. Before the big four Japanese manufacturers hit the scene in the late 1960s....well anybody remember Jawa, CZ, Maico, Zundap, Puch, Rickman, Matisse, Triumph, BSA, Norton, Bultaco, Montessa, Penton? Those companies went out of business, and they made GREAT motorcycles. The Big Four made and still make decent machines, but they made them for a lower price and then were able to sign on the best racers in the world.....guys like Joel Robert, Gary Jones, and other seriously great racers, but you couldn't buy those machines. Presto change-o and all the old school companies were out of business. I am sure that some parties are made really uncomfortable with a tiny company like Buell finally, after all these years, winning an AMA title. I am not surprised at all that folks talk badly about Buell. I Googled one person from the BadWed one night going to multiple sites to badmouth Buell after Danny's first wins. He used the same handle site after site. So I have to deduce that either mental institutions have free internet for their patients.......or Buell is scaring the beejesus out of some circles and the only way they can fight it is by the tried and true tactic of telling the Big Lie. You have heard it....Buell has an advantage because it has a larger displacement....AMA is favoring Buell....nobody is going to the races.....the bikes break down all the time. Funny thing, the Japanese bikes often have faster lap times. It would be great if Buell was about to do to the Japanese, what they did to the Europeans those years ago (and what they almost did to Harley). The difference with Buell racing bikes, or Buell bikes period, is that they aren't made of "unobtanium"....you can actually buy one. Anyone can buy one. Well done to Buell! I have been waiting for somebody like Erik Buell to come along for a long time.

Made me think of the Can-Am's of the 70's and the ATK's of the 80's. Both powered by Rotax.

I hate - and I mean HATE people that drink light beer.

Light beer is ONLY because people can't control their REGULAR beer drinking so they had to change the drinking rules to allow the inclusion of LIGHT beer.

Worse, I HATE people that drink or eat LITE anything (spelled that way).

Light beer drinkers should have their own bars and their own lines at the checkout stands so I don't have to associate with them in public.

THERE!

By MarkrD500 "Most people that hate Buells have either owned one, or still do.

That is not an accurate statement from my experience.

The majority of people who trash the brand have never touched one. They are much like backseat drivers and armchair quarterbacks, offering their "qualified advice" when they have no experience performing the above actions.

MOST of the Buell owners I have run across have been exceptional people and have a deep loyalty and love for the machines they ride. A good number of them own multiple brands and offer a very realistic comparison through experience. MOST of them, seem pretty content in their ownership.

Here's a funny. I was a hard core band kid in school, could give a f*** about football, been that way for years.

Got drug into a Fantasy Football league at work, cause they needed an 8th guy. I wound up kicking everybody's asses all season cause I didn't know who was who, who was doing what, and didn't have an opinion of what was going to happen in any of the drama that goes on. I just looked at the projected points.

Came in second in the league by one win, and that was only cause I didn't know what a bye week was and didn't adjust my players.

It was great. I had all these football geeks tied up in knots for months!
