I have heard good things about Cowboy from my little brother.
He lives in Victoria and takes his Firebolt there.
I think he also deals with Mancuso in Houston.

The leak SHOULD be fixable.
At the worst, replace the whole side cover and seals -
Everything outboard of the diaphragm.

The new seal/cylinder kit, X2086.1AM is on extended backorder right now.
My Loretta is one of the waiting masses.
Service also got a new sidecover in case mine is scored.

"By the way . . . .that's my PERSONAL advise and I am a construction worker."
Which is like saying that Albert Einstein was just a shipping clerk.

I've just successfully finished my Lemon Law claim on my 2008 XB12XT. I tried everything.
My bike was in numerous times for surging, hard shifting, and idling issues.
I brought it to three different dealerships with pretty much the same response, "they all do that". I called Buell Customer Service, and they sided with the dealerships techs.
I shot Court an email, no reply...
I sent an email to Erik Buell, using an email address Court posted in a different thread, no reply...
I finally filed a lemon law claim here in Arizona, and after two months, won.
They did not go up against Buell, but instead went after the parent company, Harley.
Harley paid me what I had into the bike. I paid 13,000 for the XT and with financing had 14,500 into the bike, plus the loss of my trade in, a 2005 city-X.
HD paid me 14,500, and let me keep the bike, in exchange I had to sign a waiver promising not to attempt any warranty work for the shifting issues, or ANY fueling issues. there is still 7 months of warranty left on the bike, and I am free to bring it in for warranty work on any "other" issues.

I am not a Buell hater, I own 5 Buells at the moment, I am pretty pissed about the piss-poor experiences I've had at the dealership level, and I'm very unhappy about my particular experience with this Uly.
But I've read of many others having a wonderful time on their '08 Uly's, and while it makes me jealous, it also makes me realize, mine was just one bad one, out of many good ones.

If your having repeated problems with your bike, and are getting frustrated, use the lemon law, that's what it's there for.
But don't hate Buell because one bad bike got out there. I will be looking for a replacement for mine, you should too...

Amazing that you WANTED to keep the bike. What the heck are you going to do with a defective bike? Part it out?

I did not get (or see) any e-mail or I'd have solved that problem promptly.

Glad you got it taken care of.

P.S. - for folks who ARE e-mailing me . . . but sure to put something meaningful in the subject line . . . I get, between Columiba, NYU, ASSE, USGBC, NEC, USMC, AARP and the other 27 organizations, the 63 magazines I subscribe to, work and my 9 personal e-mail address . . about 200 e-mails a day. If the subject is something like "hey bro" it likely never gets read.

The other thing that helps is INFORMATION. Please, if you are writing about a Buell concern, give me your name, contact information, dealer info, VIN and a concise descritption of the problem. I neither need nor want your "opinion" as it tends to "colormy ability to resolve quickly. With this information, as many, many folks can confirm, I can often have the solution by the time I get back to you. Always a good idea to give me your phone number. As many folks will tell you, I often call within moments of getting the e-mail. I drive a LOT for work and do a lot of my non-work, non-school stuff while driving.

Information is really important . . . I get e-mails with, and this is no joke . . . a subject like "far out dude" . . and a request like "can Ihave a t-shirt?" . . . . . I write back and kokingly ask if I need to guess the size . . . . then they send the size . . . so I write back and ask if they have a name. . . . hahahaha . . .then I have to write again and explain that the USPS is demanding an address . . . you can see that it gets to be a lot of work.

I'm trying to retire . . . but am still helping folks who need help when I can.

Court does respond to emails. I can attest to that.

Erik Buell is also a very good communicator as a friend of mine still has the email Erik sent to him thanking him for the work he'd done promoting the brand. It was an unsolicited email.

Take Court's advice. If you talk to BCS and calmly explain the situation without any talk of lemon law or lawyers they are much more likely to work with you. His advice has proven very helpful in the past.

Given the chance Buell stands behind their bikes.

Blake,
I didn't WANT to keep the bike, I assume I should sell it to so I can replace the city-X.

Court,
You sent me an email asking for Stingaroo's email address in Iraq, I sent the address to you along with a couple of questions regarding the problems I was having with the ULY, I received no reply. (I thought that was meaningful)

Chadhargis,
Who am I to say the bike is defective?
Three dealerships, AND the Buell factory rep that came down here say the bike is fine, and that they ALL run like this.

I may be a nit-picker, I don't like my bike surging as I go through school zones, or while I'm leaned over in a curve. I don't like fighting the shift lever to get it into gear either, and the heat coming from the right side literally scorched my leg going to homecoming last year.
All of my bikes have had a problem at one time or another, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. My '05 city-X that I traded in for the Uly gave me 26,000 miles of VERY enjoyable riding with only one visit the the dealership for warranty work. Which was repaired quickly. The Uly on the other hand, spent months in the shop. By the time I filed my claim, I had owned the Uly for 14 months, and it had spent 4 of those months in the shop, at different times, waiting for parts, or a company rep to come down.

I hope whoever ends up with it, is happy with it, and it serves them much better than it has served me. I had some great rides on that bike, and look forward to many more on whatever I get to replace it.
For sure, try ALL your options using customer service, but when all else fails, look out for number one...

Mr. Bartimus could you please get me your attorney phone number. I also am in Arizona and have been lied to and deceived at Chandler. I am thinking of a different approach to the same problem. Thanks...

This statement which is so often heard really brings my BP up. Why do they have to say that when we all know it is not true?

Bart,

Check THIS out. Would be too cool if your Uly's problem is also due to a strangely misbehaving voltage regulator.

Dbird29, $7000 and it's yours, includes bags, and bag liners.

Blake,
It would really suck if that was all it was all this time, I almost want to go and buy a regulator and try it. It IS a fun bike, when it's running right. : (
But since I've bought the ST1300 for my touring duties, I'm looking at an XB12SS for playing in the curves now.

Chandler has always been a horrible shop, especially since they moved into their new building. Unfortunately, some of their service personel have moved over to Arrowhead in Peoria.
Good Luck!
