Ok I am a bit pissed. My bike left me on the side of the highway for about 30 minutes the other day. After riding with the wife about 100 miles I left out again to met some friends. I got about 15 miles from home and stuck in traffic. Check engine light comes on, then it seems like the bike is not getting enough fuel. It would die every time I started to let me clutch out. I ended up sitting on the highway for a good 30 minutes, then I was able to start it , it rode very rough on the way home, constant fluttering, check engine light would come on then go off again. This happened once before and the dealer could not find anything wrong. He thought I had ran out of gas. I can't find my original post , but if I remember the code that came up then was P1006. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Go into Diag Mode -
Press Mode and Select together and turn on the key.
The dash will say diag mode then view codes.
press lower button to cycle thru the info.

I am definitely no Buell expert, but that sounds a lot like the 02 sensor to me.

Got off of work and did go to Diag Mode. P0087 Fuel PR SYS ERR. WTF? Any help would be appreciated

That is usually the code that comes up when you have run it EXTREMELY low on fuel. Did you do that? You said he thought you ran out of gas, did you?

No Jpowell490 I only had 29 miles on the tank. I had just filled up. I even removed the cap and checked. Plenty of fuel. The dealer had no idea what was wrong then this happened last time and cleared out the code and told me thats what he thought had happened. This time there is no doubt the bike has plenty of gas.

Buzz,

Is there anyway something could have gotten into the gas tank and is partially covering the inlet? I have seen people put additives in their gas and accidentally squeeze the tinfoil cap off into their gas tanks and that will cause all kinds of problems. It sounds like either you have a bad sensor somewhere or something is restriciting your gas flow.

I have seen that code when not waiting for the fuel rail to pressure up at start-up.
During a running condition, it would seem to mean a restriction, a failing pump or a bad pump power connection.
Either a poorly seated connector or fuse, or a broken wire intermittently losing contact.

At any rate, your fuel rail pressure is intermittently inadequate.

From the Electrical Diagnostic Manual -
NOTE: If the fuel pump fails, or when the vehicle is out of fuel, DTC P0087 sets. The output of the ECM still attempts to drive the fuel pump to maximum output under these conditions.

was it hot out when you were riding?
How hot our tanks get when it is hot out kinda supprises me that it doesn't happen more often but fuel that hot could vapor lock the fuel system.

Just got back from the dealer. Guess what? The bike was running fine, no check engine light. No problems at all, just like last time. He kept it and said he will give Buell a call to see what he should look for. I guess I could ride the wife Blast and look like a goof until I get my bike back.

Since the check engine light trouble code is available for them to look at, they have a base to start troubleshooting from. I really can't stand it when people think you're stupid or lying when you have a check engine light. If they say they can't do anything because the bike is fine now, you should call customer service yourself and go from there.

I called Buell this morning. Didn't really receive a great deal of help. The lady listen and gave me a ref# to give the dealer so that he can speak to a tech about my problem.

Buell CS is not that helpful in most circumstances. You received the typical stuff. Sometimes you can get lucky and the gal on the phone will go find and relay your question to a Buell tech. Typically then you get good information if your question and the resulting answer was properly conveyed along the chain. Usually if you are polite and persistent, you can often get a tech question answered...ie, is this new piston/sleeve the PERMANENT fix for the clutch weep issue?

When the 1125 first came out, we were under "infant care" and got very personal, very prompt service.
I was on a first name basis with Matt and dealt with him every time I called.
We talked so much to each other, we recognized each other by voice.

Due to volume and the fact that BMC has a good handle on the issues now, service is not as personal.
Unless you happen on a new issue.
They(BMC-CS) are still tops in my book.

Got a bit further today with Customer Service. The guy I reached this morning knew a lot. He checked through the electrical manual and believes its either the fuel pump or the fuel pressure sensor. I did let me Dealership know what he had found. So happy I get the bike repaired soon.

Just got of the phone with the dealer. He said he ordered a new fuel pressure sensor. Also said that It was wet with fuel under the injector, and that he has one there now that had a similar problem.

Be careful if you take off the airbox, especially the bottom tray.
The fuel rail is kinda delicate and you could crack it. The fuel is under a LOT of pressure.
Also, if you're in there, be VERY careful when putting everything back together.
The throttle/idle cables have a specific routing and any deviation can cause hang-ups.

Everything down there is very well thought out and executed, be precise if you mess with stuff.

Just a word from experience... : )

Fuel Rail? When I took off my airbox to de-noid I didn't see anything that would have been in the way or harms way should I say. Just want to know if I should have looked a bit harder?

JP - if you have a parts book(08) it's on page92.
It's a plastic line with a heatshield on it, about a foot long.
Quick connects at each junction, it is easy to disconnect, move, replace.
p/n is P0268.1AM

IIRC, it runs just off center, to the right side.

Still waiting on the Pressure Sensor to arrive at the dealer. This sucks, making payments and not being able to ride. Plus I've been off the past two beautiful weekends.

As with 4-wheeled vehicles, this is something a dealer may choose to do for a customer. However, it has nothing to do with the manufacturer themselves.

I think they offer the 2010 Buell Blast for a loaner bike! It is up to the dealer, just ask.

Just got her back. They installed a new fuel pressure sensor. She is running great again. Boy did I miss her. I was starting to look lustfully at some of her Asian cousins.
