One of the clutch repair parts has been delayed until October 30th...that will put my bike in the shop for over a month. This Buell owner is not enthused.

Dude, mine has been in since August 26.
It also had the stator fail earlier in the summer.

My bike is not in the shop, but I am also waiting for parts for this issue, since the beginning of September.
The Dealer decided all mine needs is new o-rings, I suggested the kit, and they replied, "it only needs o-rings".
Hopefully this is the fix for mine, but I have a feeling the leak will return?
My cover is also being replaced, due to fluid damage caused by the leak, maybe this is the cause of the delay for me?
After I mentioned the delay on these parts ("I don't know where you heard that"), the Dealer told me they would have the parts in two weeks, I guess they should have researched first (a month and counting)!

I have a 2008. They did the clutch cover and rings in late june, before the clutch failed on me in mid August. So, make sure they give you the newest kit. The old shit will fail.

Wow, Man, please tell me that this is Oct 30th is a mistake. I understand first year product having some bugs but man this just sucks. “Hey man you go to Cruising the Coast this weekend? I can’t man bikes still down waiting on parts. Man you spend more time waiting for parts than you do riding it.” Of course then there is the never ending barrage of jokes, followed up with my seemingly futile defense of Buell.

Look I don’t want to sound as though I am whining; I just need to vent a little. I truly enjoy everything associated with the Buell Experience. I have no plans on selling mine, I will by another one. I just want to be able to take Erik’s advice; Go Ride!!!

I am sick of doing long distant trips that require coordination for a trailer or chase car to bring me home and back to get it if they determin it cannot be fixed due to parts or etc. I have even contemplated plugging the weep hole just to go ride but figured it would more than likely cause an even bigger problem not to mention warranty issues.

I know the folks at Buell are working hard at figuring it out, not to mention all the other hurdles associated with getting it produced and off to the dealers.

Sorry for the vent!!!

Waiting patiently to Go Ride…

It is not. This sounds like an issue with the supplier.

I just did a 2500+ mile trip from NY to Georgia on mine, no plans for trailers, no spare parts set aside. Just threw my bags on it and took it for a sweet long ride. : )

29,000+ s'miles and I have a weep, oh no the shame of it all.............
Heck I'm gonna just keep riding until my kit comes in and then get it repaired.

I do feel for you riders that are down and can't ride, that sucks. FWIW, you can have my kit, when it comes in.

Compared to all the weepers (which there really ain't too many) the out right failures are pretty small. Maybe on the order of less than 20 (I am referring to clutches that either squirted out their fluid or ones that won't actuate the clutch).

In this day and age of inventory turns and low to ZERO inventory, I can understand why there were not kits just sitting on the shelf in East Troy or across the pond at Rotax. We do more model changeovers today than we have ever done before! How do you spell P-I-T-A!! FWIW, we will do 60+ inventory turns this year! One hiccup in shipping and you might as well send a full shift home since they don't have anything to do!

I just put somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 or so miles on mine this past weekend with Froggy. I did trailer to the good roads though.

I had nary a thought of anything going wrong. If it does, it does. I'll worry about it when it happens.

I have you all beat...the day mine started spraying fluid is the same day that I met Erik Buell at NJMP and told him that I really liked the bike and appreciated the fact that they have supported the model through its growing pains...too funny! Needless to say my bike has spent most of this riding season in the shop for a faulty cluster and now the clutch. As stated earlier I am not enthused.

Dealer told me that everything came in except the piston sleeves and they don't have an answer on those yet, so I will just call them in a couple of days to reschedule the appointment if they haven't come in yet.

Just got the Shiny Beast back after completion of the clutch master cylinder warranty repair. I want to thank the Badwebbers for their assistance. Zac4Mac provided me the part numbers on the web and as an e-mail. This enabled me to show up at the dealer and tell him what was wrong and what parts were needed. Of course, any reputable dealer is going to troubleshoot the bike, but when they can identify both the problem and you give them the part numbers, it makes it all go smoother and faster. I also want to thank Court for his regular reports on where the parts were in shipment. My bike was in the shop for three weeks. I don't really consider that a big deal though time-wise. My worst issue throughout all of this is that, while riding the X-1, people always ask me if I am riding a Ducati. I will point to the Buell decals and then they ask if Buell is a German bike. The decals also say "American Motorcycles". I did have one lady pull up beside me in traffic and tell me that I must have a pretty big ego to have my name embroidered on my jacket....you know..."Buell". I politely told her that Buell wasn't my name, and that when she saw a jacket with Honda or Yamaha on it, that it probably wasn't their name either......Is that funny or what? Hey, they let her drive a car...AND vote! What a country! C'mon, I couldn't make this up. Thanks again to all!

court, mine is weeping significantly enough to get attention, finally. i still have the original 08 cover, and it hasnt been touched at all yet.

about every month, i top off the clutch fluid and call it good.

should i get on a waiting list at my dealership NOW or should i just wait till like november or december and give it to them until its fixed; risking that buell might be out of the new repair kit by then?

Call Buell Customer Service, have them arrange with your dealer. Buell will not run out.

They aren't really o-rings.
More like a quad-seal with rounded edges.
I don't think you'll find generics that will work.

All my parts are in, but I'm waiting for some nicer weather.

I'll get a Road King from rentals while Loretta's down.
I want to be able to take the wife for a ride, she won't go if it's cold like the last week.

I don't understand how some peeps can get parts in weeks and I can't in months. I called customer service and they were all nice on the phone. But the call back they promised never happened. I hope you all ride safe and never have to leave your bike in the shop months at a time.

My plan is to purchase some viton x-rings on the web and replace the o-rings. Viton stands up well to heat stresses, so again, if anyone knows the size of the o-rings, I'd be glad to start a group purchase. These things are pennies in bulk.

no not realy but not too horrific, think possibly 5 to 35 dollars for VITON not a knock off,

Kalrez 250$ IIRC

size may not be super crucial depending on grove layout and fitts, bot you are working at .00x tollerences here.
Xring may be an option if you can find one close makes some sense to me.
