I was wondering why Danny was doing so much better than the other Buell riders.

Now I know.

Big stones.

Real big.

Not sure who that is, but from somebody who has done some Supermoto, that is not usually the fastest way around. But, you can't see the whole turn, it does look really cool and what do I know anyway. Surely way faster than me.

Now we all need to prepare for the "unfair advantage" remarks.

I love the double standard.

When Eslick does well, it's the unfair Buell advantage.

When he does poorly, "he isn't that good of a rider".

It appears that since the second race with all the fire works Hacking has come to respect Eslick's skill if not Eslick himself.

Seems when the race is over that Jamie and Danny have simply had a great time.

What is the "unfair advantage" you noted Chadhargis? He's not competing with 600's there is he?

Midnight was the rebroadcast, I taped it 'cuz my buddy Ray Jones (of Donkey Punch Racing haha) had his premiere AMA race.

Folks, this was one of the best races I've ever seen. Eslick and the Monster Kawi traded places all day, and in the last lap, our boy went nuts for the win. He had that Buell wiggling all over the place, and even carried the front wheel out of a fifth-gear turn. It was just pure balls. I was out of my seat laughing and cheering.

Now for the non-engineers who whine "unfair", lets do some simpel math... At 10000 RPM, an inline-4 motor fires 20000 cylinders (10000 * 4 / 2) per minute, while a four-stroke V-twin only gets 10000 power strokes. So all other factors being equal, a Twin must have twice the per-stroke displacement to equal an I-4. Buell and Duc are generally making equivalent power and higher torque with less displacement (integrated over time).

Gee- maybe the handling is important too. Imagine that, fellow Buellaholics. -Nadz

Its a little more complex then that Nadz, Assume the same overall displacement for a twin and a four...

Two cylinders of 2x displacement versus 4 cylinders of 1x displacement are the same total displacement. But with the twin, the two power strokes are driven by twice the displacement then the four powerstrokes on the four.

So the twin should be making 2x the power per stroke with 1/2 the strokes, and that part should be a wash.

The advantage to the fours is that to get the 2x displacement of the twins, you need a piston that is larger, heavier, and sweeps a larger stroke.

A larger heavier piston can't be wiggled up and down as fast, so a twin will always have a lower redline then a four.

A longer stroke will have to cover more distance for a power stroke, and the speed of the piston is limited by the physics of how an oil film on a cylinder wall can hold up. There *is* a maximum... and it *does* force a twin to max out at lower RPM's.

I forget the ultimate answer, but I have seen it calculated, perhaps by Kevin Cameron. The twins absolutely are at a disadvantage if you limit a class by displacement... which doesn't seem rational when you have multiple engine configurations racing.

Eslick and rmr race in Daytona Sportbke. That video was the last lap of the daytona sportbike race on Sunday. It was shown on speed at midnight that night.

Hackings bike took a poop Saturday well before the end of the race, so such a last lap race wasn't needed or even possible.

Agreed 100%, Reep. I was trying to oversimplify for trolls' sake. ;]

But now I have a Q: how come the 1203 gets better mileage?

Consensus is the 1203 gets great mileage (usually over 50mpg) and the 1125 sorta doesn't (35 or so, ignoring the rich 2008 ECMs). Is this because the 1203 is a long-stroke low-revving engine: i.e. lots of time to get a good burn, vs the higher-revving 1125? IIRC the 1203 is actually a truck-cranked 984 (same bore longer stroke) and the 1125 is "oversquare" (short stroking a big bore) so less piston velocity.

Or is it an issue of design maturity or tuning or parasitic drag or what?

Expert nollij plz: I cracked up my XB on a drunkard's bumper, and will soon have to choose. If I go 1125 I won't be able to laugh at hybrid owners as much and I'd like to know why. -Nadz

Anybody else notice how the Eslick was getting pulled in the straights on those laps...He has to work super hard braking late and sliding her around to stay with them. He does seem to have an advantage getting back on the throttle early, though.
