I didn't look too far when I did the first svc, but I do know that the aprilia filter will NOT work. I bet that the dealer is the only source for now. Not enough volume for somebody else to tool up a unique (and it is unique) piece. Let us hear if you find anything! R | ||

3.75" case only, 3.95" including the rubber seal on one end for length. OD is 2.225" ID is .967" for inside the seal. It comes with the oring for the cap for only $15. Not a bad price for what it is. Maybe a little high, but not totally out of line, like $25+ for it. | ||

Other mfgr's, namely, EMGO, K&N, Hi-Flo and Parts Unlimited has had filters for the Aprilia big twins which does not fit our 1125's(too short but similar)and I believe they will eventually have one for ours given how long it took K&N to develop an air filter for our bikes. The oil filters sold for from $4.00-$7.00. I wonder how many Aprilia's have sold compared to our 1125's. Hope its coming. | ||

Let's see every 10,000 km or 6,000 miles for engine oil/ filter that's not too unreasonable. I've got 25,000 miles and I know mine has been changed at least 6-7 times in the past 15 months. For most riders you are talking about two oil changes a year. At these intervals and this number of bikes, I would have a difficult time justifying the ROI to tool this up at $16 each. two oil changes a year?? are you suggesting that most riders are actually logging the national average of 12k miles/ year on vehicles?? bikes are different, in most climates in the US, its not feasable to ride them as much as 4 wheeled vehicles; plus not nearly as feasable. bikes are generally pleasure vehicles used much less than 12k a year... just because your a nut who will have 100k on a 3.5 year old bike doesnt mean everyone else rides even half as much as you do... most of the 1125 owners who our the subject of this thread may likely never even see 100k on their bikes because theyll sell it or total it or glass case it well before then (my 13 year old buell S2 has 16k on it) so in perspective, at the 1125's rediculous 6k intervals, most owners will be changing thier oil once a year OR LESS. | ||

Ever heard of "3 months or 3,000 miles?" While I wouldn't expect anyone to change the oil 4 times a year if the bike is just sitting in the garage, I think 2 oil changes a year on an idle bike is probably reasonable. Using a quality synthetic oil and keeping it fresh is the best thing you can do for your engine. Pushing the limits on the oil change intervals is a case of someone not being too bright or just being lazy (or both.) | ||

After the release of the 1125R, Aprilia released and updated oil filter cover that is deeper and now uses the same filter as the 1125 (if you buy the updated cover). There are some after market filters on AF1 racing site, you just have to make sure that it is the long filter and not the short one. |
