I saw a 1125R at a dealership in Switzerland that had the Remus exhaust on it ans wondered if anyone here had tried it? It is a nice looking system.

I have but can't recommend them. The weld which holds the circlip that locates the baffle broke and I lost the baffle. Having one is pretty important in the heavily Policed area where I sometimes ride.
When I contacted Remus all they would offer is a replacement circlip, they didn't feel that the loss of the baffle was caused by their faulty workmanship. When I asked about how they welded two different types of steel, they got very vague.
They would have been happy to sell me a new baffle.
With customer support like that, I'll never deal with them again

The Drummer looks and sounds much better, that's the one to go for

If he's in Europe then he has to deal with far stricter noise legislation than we do here in the States.

And I'm willing to bet ANY aftermarket exhaust sold in this country for the Buell would FAIL those tests. If it weren't so prohibitively expensive I'd buy one of those European e-Certified exhausts myself simply because they are made of stainless steel (a material Buell exhaust engineers seem to be allergic to or something).

I have one on my bike. Sounds and looks great and I haven't had any problems with the exhaust or trojan-horse where I bought it from.

I've always thought the Remus was the best looking aftermarket exhaust for this bike. I like the way it fills the underside of bike. I think the other systems leave the underside of the bike too empty, giving the appearance that it's sitting higher than it is, making it look like a dirt bike or something. I also like that the tip points up and away from the rear wheel. If I decide to go aftermarket on the exhaust at some point, it'll most likely be the Remus.

I'm sure you were looking for some facts, so I took it upon myself to drown you in my opinions. Sorry. : )

When my muffler starts to rust up (and I know it will eventually) I'm thinking of the Remus exhaust in black, myself.

Make sure you hear a Remus before you spend. I'm sending my original pipe to Morespeed (a bit like a UK Special Ops set UP) for modification. I'm no fan of the Remus noise - the You Tube clips are mis leading, you have to stand by the roadside while someone drives past with the motor under load to hear it's trail bike sound.

It's QUIET that I want. I have a huge selection of LOUD exhausts in this country but I'm not interested in ANY of them.

I know that there is going to be an exhaust that is slightly louder than stock without being offensive. It will look like it properly fills that void under the engine, shave a few pounds and help power as well. One day.

I share this dream, the Remus seems closest at this time.

Crowley, what don't you like? Too quiet, the tone???

It's quiet enough but the noise it makes is more like an XR trailie rather than a V twin.
It's lost that howl when you're nailing it at the top end and sounds 'cracky' at saner speeds. Hence getting the std pipe modded for a deeper tone.

Thanks for the info.

I better try to hear one in person before I drop the cash.

So far I've heard 4 different exhaust sounds.
1) Stock - very quiet, I hear way too much valve-train.
2) "opened" stock - I drilled/dremelled into the rear chamber from the exit tips to the full diameter of the pipe, a little louder, a touch of thump.
3) Drummer - a bit louder than I hoped, but a BEAUTIFUL tone. Experimenting with dB killers.
4) Jardine - all I can say is "Harsh!".

Zac, can u give a cliff notes version of the process? Such as did u need to remove the muffler, drill size etc??

Thanks!

I'm sure there's a couple of threads about it.
3 or 4 of us did it a year or so ago.
Exploded/cutaway views of the muffler are a big help.

Basically I started with a 1/4" bit that is 18" long.
Took the muffler off and started drilling in thru the exit tips.
Be careful on the bottom tip, that tube runs next to the outer skin.
After doing as much damage as I could with a drill, I moved to a dremel flex-drive and a stone to open it up.

Takes a good amount of time, but results in a better tone.
I was close to satisfied, but I couldn't pass up the deal I got for a Drummer.

Any luck on the db killers for the Drummer? Mine is on order, but I don't want it too loud while I'm living overseas.

My first attempt was actually louder/harsher.
Kevin's pipe has a delicious rumble.
A smaller opening(like one I saw at work yesterday) doesn't work.
I'm still playing...

I've had the Remus on for about 9k and I've been extremely satisfied with how it sounds, looks and runs. I was first interested in the looks and the ground clearance at the lean. I'm running the pipe without a Cat and Baffle removed and I enjoy the sound from Idle to high Rev. It has a nice pitch that doesn't blow your ear drums and doesn't annoy others or myself.

My profile picture shows the pipe on my bike.

Decibel wise how does the Drummer compare to the Jardine and D & D. Those are the only two exhausts for this bike I have heard. D&D is way too loud. Jardine is up there but it had a better tone. Any thoughts on how how loud the drummer is compared to these two would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Remus on mine i had a D&D on first and it was hideously loud and the power felt soft down low and it was very high maintenance, cracking front bracket constantly burning out baffle packing and the end cap vibrates and slogs out the bolt holes. the Remus feels very strong down low and is quiet enough to keep the law off your back but sounds reasonably throaty once its run in immediate removal of the baffle insert is a must.

Regards Brett

Drummer is NOT subtle, but at idle to me it's just pleasant. Not as loud as the D&D, and a lot nicer noise, IMHO.
