I don't know if i agree you risk making the situation worse by picketing. It sounds like from the consumer point of view your already are in a worse case scenario.

If they return your bike free because pressure from Buell or they just tire of you scarring customers your relationship will likely always be bad. They will always refer to you as that guy. Once you get the bike back in any case you can never return.

Every now and then I like to see a David vs Goliath victory.

I will not even ask if you said something to upset the manager because he crossed a line that he never should have.

In the future, for you and anybody else, I would use a Harley/Buell dealer where one of the mechanics owns & rides the bike you have.

I no longer have one of those. Good thing I have a shop manual and some sense!

Keep us updated!

Andrew:

Good luck today. Remember to stay cool, act in a mature and adult manner (even if they don't) and like some have said previously, have a clear focus on what you really want. You really want your bike checked out, fixed and back in your arms with your $'s in your pocket.

Let us know what happens.

Reminiscent of the guy who called me threatening to suspend the S-1 covered in lemons from a helicopter in 1997.

Whatever . . . . I suspect at sometime in my life I may see one of these work as planned I haven't yet.

Here's a few words of advice.
- Realize that your bike is under warranty and that any further action on your part to get the problem rectified is a discussion with you and BMC CS
- Decide what you would want the outcome of this to be and plan accordingly in your discussions with CS
- Your action to picket a dealer is:
1) Ill conceived effort on your part
2) Might detract from the goal to get your bike back and into a shop that can do the work

Keep your cool and you will prevail. Don't make this into a circus, it won't serve you well.

Okay they told me to stop the picket . And after the whole conversion with them they were still trying to make me feel little as I told them that I won't ride a bike with debris in a engine and for them to quit angleing me and be men and fix this . They asked me what I wanted and I said a bike of equal quality or a new engine. They asked me if I would help pay and I said no. I payed for a two year warranty when I bought the bike. I'm using it . It's just a game to see who will screw up with talks . I wouldn't be suprised if they aren't watching me or taped me today . I showed them pics of the oil a d told them why wouldn't anyone look at it when I brought it in. Instead tell me to leave . Bad customer service. The owner invited me to his company party Freedom celebration party this Friday should I go??

At this point, I wouldn't go. A thanks for the invite, but I already have other plans would be appropriate. After everything that has gone on and still seems to be going on, keep it on a business only level until everything gets handled.

This is my story….
In May 2008 I purchased my 1125R Buell from Lake Erie Harley Davidson. Since the time of purchase, the bike has had several issues such as bad fueling, knocking, surging, stuttering, overheating, and poor mpg. I had the bike serviced under recalls, but the problems remained. Recently I brought the bike into H.D. for service due to loud knocking. Over the course of two weeks they proceeded to tear the bike down to the frame searching for the source. I informed H.D. that I had an out of town trip planned for that weekend and would like the bike in running condition. The conclusion was a broken screw in the clutch basket and primary drive assembly (both of which were replaced under warranty). Upon driving home less than 5 miles from the dealership, the bike started to knock and the drive belt broke. I immediately called the H.D. dealership and they picked the bike up. The following day (! Day prior for leaving on scheduled vacation) I was told if I wanted the bike back I was to pay $365.00, which included cost of belt, labor and tow. When I questioned why belt was not under warranty he stated he knows I ride the bike hard and if I didn’t pay $365.00 then I was going to be charged for all the prior services done to the bike, which included all engine labor cost. At this point I felt cornered and extorted. The manager stated that he was done speaking to me on this matter, to pick up the bike and hung up the phone on me. I paid the bill, and drove bike home cautiously. I noticed that attached to my billing statement was a red paper containing false quotes that I had made about riding habits. At this point I was outraged that a company that I have purchased two bikes through would do such a thing to a loyal customer. Having been a previous bike owner, I changed the oil and to my surprise found a significant amount of metal fragments in the engine oil and filter. I contacted H.D. customer service to verbalize my concern since I have not experienced this in any previous oil changes before. They documented my statement and said they would get back to me with in the next few days. After my trip with the bike (1600 miles) changed the oil again, but bike still had knock and contained metal fragments in oil, which leads me to believe there is a wear issue that needs to addressed. After notifying H.D customer service they said it was L.E.H.D. issue and to contact them from now on. Having past disappointments with Lake Erie H.D. I was hesitant to contact them for any more help, and upon speaking with the manager and expressing my concerns, he agreed to do an oil change and look at it. When service called me to pick the bike up, I mentioned that I wanted to see the oil filter and they said it would be here. At time of pick up, I requested the oil filter that was promised by manager Bill H. and Steve B. said it was disposed of and not available. I checked the oil in my bike in the parking lot of the dealership and saw metal particles. I was upset and told them this is unacceptable and they asked me to leave the premises. When asking if this bike can be traded in Steve B. said he refuses to sell me a bike and that they have the authority to do so. I asked for the owners phone number and he gave me the number of the dealership I was standing in. I proceeded to push my bike back into the service area and told them to keep it.
I don’t feel as if I was treated with any respect and feel the need to tell others about my experience here. I have been a believer in buying American products; I am in the Steelworkers Union 1104 and I push to support our country with U.S. purchases and have been greatly disappointed with this entire situation. Is this how we represent an American company? By hanging up the phone and pushing people into corners?

For Christ sake, paragraphs. Please.

Let me be frank . . . .

You are not stirring the pot.

You are being stupid.

Your problem is an easy one to solve.

You write and speak poorly and rather than do grown up sensible things that would resolve the problem you have wasted your time and made getting to the root of the problem much more difficult.

You have provided nearly no specifics.

Waste your time picketing if you are so inclined. But for the rest of us who own and ride Buells . . spare us your personal crusade and just give us the summary of what the problem was and how it was fixed when you are done.

Court, of course, is being rational and sensible. You should follow his advice.

Nevertheless, I find the suit and signs most compelling. Once in a while, it's nice to see somebody stand up instead of roll over.

Not to mention, it's frakin' hilarious...

Obviously both sides of this situation aren't made available here, but I'm thinking that for a service person to ask a customer to leave the premises there MUST be more to this than simply a difference of opinion.

MY opinion: A bridge has been burned. You SHOULD get your bike fixed, but the collateral damage is irreversible.

I asked them to look further into my bike And they denied me.They rode it and they said it was fine .I asked them for the oil filter which by law if I ask they have to provide. They wouldnt let me see it .I marked it! I knew what the oil looked like .Someone resize my picture for me of my last oil change and you tell me if the picture is acceptable.Buell customer service has the pics also i sent it to my case manager. All three oil changes looked similiar .I will send the pic to teddagreek.

The owner is working on getting me a new motor. They said your bike has fresh oil in it now .I said what about all the particles that are stuck to my oil pump pickup tube and are blocking the flow of oil to the pump/motor???the integrity of the motor is ruined in my eyes.Im not riding it!!!They are just angling how they can screw me.The owner was very curtious and seemed disturbed but wanting to come up with a solution. They only problem I have had is with the service manager .I asked to talk to the owner numerous times and was shut down. I took picketing to get to him.

Burn the lollipop suit. For extra fun, you can make a July 4th spectacle of it. More seriously, please get rid of what that suit represented, once and for all. Re-read Court's notes, and just follow the program. Let your new game be drama avoidance. You got the bike in the first place because part of you knew you needed it, but it appears that another part of you wasn't quite ready for it yet, so the bike grounded itself for the moment. Whether you end up trusting some dealer to fix the bike, or you tool up and learn to do it yourself, you will still have the same issues to deal with within yourself before your bike can become fully functional in all its glory. Either way, I'm glad you found us, and we will do what we can to help. Consider the bigger-picture possibility that the way the bike has been could really be a blessing in disguise.

Picketing is an American right.

This lady was picketing here in Portland because her rabbit died at the veterinarian.

She probably had similar results bringing back her rabbit from the dead as you did your bike.
