alright long story short - bought a 07XB12Ss in June of 08, rode it almost everyday and never had a problem with the heat and the bike besides my right leg getting warm from the exhaust - in september of 08 i traded the XB for a new CR (yea lost my @$$, live and learn) - as with all new bikes they have their quirks here and there, understandable - didnt really have a problem except the recall BS besides the speedo reading 0 while riding twice, until recently that is - it has been reading 0 just about every ride from 2 seconds to 2 minutes, it seems the hotter it is the more it goes out, my coolant level is ok, the fans are working, today i hit 217 CT and the AT was reading anywhere from 117-137, i also noticed today the gear indicator was disappearing when the speedo read 0 - is the ECM getting to hot? anyone else having issues in the hot weather? this bike ran like a top in the winter and spring ok i guess that wasnt that short - got on a rant | ||

With the stock flash, my 1125R and I did OK last summer. CT occasionally hit above 220F. This year seems even hotter, but with the latest updates my CT hasn't gone above 207F (AT is nuts, like over 120F). Bike definitely feels like it's running hotter... it's not the best riding weather right now in TX, no matter how you slice it. Check your oil level, too, since oil is more important for engine cooling than coolant. BTW, you ought to take in your instrument cluster for servicing, what you've described is not normal operation. | ||

The cluster calculates what gear you're in based on your speed and your engine RPM. If your speed reads zero, then it can't know what gear you're in and assumes you have the clutch pulled in. You either have a bad cluster or a bad speedometer sending unti. As for the heat - we get pretty damned hot here in NY - sitting for quite a while in traffic, I hit 208. Shut the bike down and it climbed up to 217 or so. | ||

I've lived through a hot summer with the 1125r already here in Dallas. The bike runs really warm, yes, but it takes the heat just fine. Coming off the track this year, I've had mine get to as hot at 230 and the temp light came on. But soon as I got moving again it was OK and back down to 220ish temps. Ran fine. The Buell engineers I've spoken with indicated they have run the motor up to as high as 250F for extended periods of operation in testing. The motor was apparently fine, though it does loose power at the super-high temps. | ||

Word from Corpus Christi, TX: No problem with the heat. Make sure you have the latest flash, but that really didn't impact the CT that I noticed. Mine rarely gets over 185. R | ||

Kevyn, sorry to hear you're having problems. The Speed/Gear issue is definitely cause for a warranty look. On the heat issue, I can't help you. Mine hasn't hit 200 yet this year. I've seen it hit 218 at the track, but it normally stays below 200 in normal riding. Double check all your fluids. Not just the levels but the quality as well. If oil is full & clean, then I think I'd try some water wetter/engine ice in the coolant mix to see if it has a positive impact on the CT. As for AT, I stopped paying any serious attention to it after the engine warmed up long ago. It was 119 yesterday, according to AT, on my ride home.  | ||

thanks guys, I'm supposed to have a cluster on order, I'll check on that today What is the latest flash for the 09s? I'll double check that too I guess one weekend I'll have to flush it and refill with engine ice, instead of riding I love this bike, actually saw a black CR yesterday, chatted with him for a sec, only other one I've seen on the road besides mine | ||

07xb12ss I have that exact same issue with mine and it started as soon as the weather got warmer . I know the fans run longer and putting a drain on the batteries . When I ride and put the bike away for the night I plug in the charger and it seems I don't that issue for the next ride but when i don't charge over night the speedo drops out as well as the gear indicator . Maybe the system is sensitive to low battery voltage . That seems to be my experience anyway ...  | ||

My voltage when riding is always around 14 when riding, never had a voltage issue *knock on wood* I did notice yesterday the fans stopped as soon as I killed the ign (stop/run switch first always) so that's not good, kinds why I figured ECM was whigging out | ||

I don't have the heat issues with my 25R, but as for the speedo reading zero I have had that problem. I had my speedo sensor replaced and I haven't had the issue ever since. RB | ||

Has anyone tried using engine ice or water wetter added to your coolant? It should reduce your temp some. | ||

I don't have the gear indicator (and really no desire for one), but I assumed that when stopped in neutral if you click into 1st or 2nd it would display the gear. If calculated off speed and RPM, I guess that's not the case? The additional "neutral finder" is the only real use I can think of for me personally, so this confirms that I truly have no need for an updated cluster. Plus, I really like seeing the CT when the bike is warming up. I would definitely miss my warmup CT (i.e. having COLD flash on the display instead), since I use that every startup to help time when to put helmet/gloves on. | ||

As soon as clutch is pulled in the gear goes away. Cold still flashes until warmed up though. I like mine. Fixed my condensation issue. As far as the heat. I have not seen mine go over 200 degrees in a very long time but I don't think 220 should be much of an issue for the motor. | ||

I missed the CT during warm-up, I came up with a workable fix. Every IC after Jan or Feb 08 flashes cold, BTW; I got an 09 IC last Fall. Just go into DiagMode when you start up. Check for codes and flip two to the CT in Celsius. OpTemp is about 66.1C. Z (Message edited by zac4mac on June 18, 2009) |
