Finally got back on track after >4 months off. This time had the Torque Hammer installed, but without the race ECM & TM map. Of course all my comments will be subjective, I’m no dyno. Yesterday was also my first time on this particular track (SMRI Albuquerque), which happens to be 30 minutes from home and not the 5 hours to Arroyo Seco or 12 hours to Las Vegas. But I do have to say that both of these tracks are more fun for me at this time than SMRI. Maybe because I’m a newb and things will get better the more I ride here. Whatever, great people here. The TH with stock ECM does feel like its got more pull throughout the rev range. I did spin the 190 Bridgestone BT003’s a lot easier, and SMRI has a high traction surface. I had 12 laps on those tires at the start of the day; they were not worn out. In a full day on the track, most of it in the expert group I don’t remember any bikes pulling away from me on the straights. Even though I’m geared way wrong with the belt drive I had plenty of power down the straights and coming out of turns. One pleasant surprise was that I did not get the throttle stumble coming out of turns where my rpm’s were low like I did with the stock exhaust. Definitely liked this! Of course dropping down a gear takes care of this too. But sometimes less shifting is better (like when the old man gets tired). Coming down the main straight you enter the straight of a small oval track with banked turns. So there’s a varying angle bump about 1/3 down the road race straight. Even at the least angle, up against the wall, the Buell carried the front wheel. Didn’t see this happen with other bikes. When I first got there I would use the inside straight (greater angle) when passing slower riders where I was carrying big power wheelies down the straight for 2 laps till I got meat-balled, and put in a faster group (which I think is the smart move, you don’t learn as much if you’re the one doing the passing, and I was required to start as a beginner even though I hold ASMA and WERA race licenses). On the sound at the track, I got comments from lots of folks that they knew when I was coming. For me, I thought I could more easily stay in the proper gear cause I could certainly hear the exhaust more. Also riding through the pits that pipe turns a lot of heads. The reason I didn’t have the TM map installed in my race ECM is that I couldn’t get the usb to serial port adapter for my laptop to make a connection. I don’t have a laptop with a serial port. Slaughter suggested doing what he does. Go buy an old laptop on ebay/craig’s to use only for working with the race ECM. If anyone has a better suggestion, please let me know. The bottom line is that I think for a street or track slip-on it would be tough to beat the Torque Hammer. For the little guy racer with no on site support, this is the slip-on. It looks great (mine is in stainless, not coated). It sounds great! It has power you can definitely feel and your tires will show it. If you go to the Twin Motorcycles Web site you can see all the dyno graphs from when this pipe was developed. Pete at Grand Stand Designs, the importer, has the latest race map from Dris if you’re racing. If you’ve dealt with Pete before then you know he will definitely take care of you. | ||

It looks just like Walt's. I'm really busy doing PM on the toyhauler today, but I will get some pics posted this evening or tomorrow. It's a good time for pics cause the belly pan is not mounted (next project) and you can see the way the support brackets look on the front of the can. I like the way the TH brackets are shaped to fit perfect around the parts on the bike. Looks real pro. Last weekend was a trackday so I took the opportunity to put my side stand on (I'm getting old, weak, & feeble and it makes pitting much easier). The side stand fits right up against the TH bracket. I'll try to get a pic of this too. Real nice. But like I said before I think the real plus about this slip-on is that you don't need a support team or shop to use it. It bolts on easily and if you want it comes with a map. You don't have to spend money on a dyno or a pro tuner. For the little guy club racer like me it just works, right out of the box. | ||

George, I got the same thing at BestBuy. Have you ever tried to get one to work on Vista? After installing the "updated" drivers the device was looking for port 23. I've never seen more than 4 on a PC. I'm not a Vista fan. In fact after getting a Vista laptop I switched to Mac OS X. Yesterday afternoon I bought an old IBM Thinkpad running XP for $100. It has a serial port. Problem solved. And, like Steve said you can beat it up in the pits and only lose $100. | ||

Dugram, It would be interesting to get a dyno run with this pipe. See Murrae at SFHD/Buell. If it feels as good as you say and has the numbers on the Dyno, maybe SFHD can s item. Looks like substantial weight savings. Buellnick - stock 1125R at the track on Sunday - across from your pit. Also, I noticed your photos on line. Make sure you check them out. | ||

Nick, I don't want to pay for a dyno when I already have an idea how well the pipe works. If you go to the Twin Motorcycles Web site you can see all the dyno runs made while developing the pipe. They're better results because they come from the same dyno, they're all relative values. | ||

Duggram, It is possible, too reprogram the stock ECM, with our fuel map. I am working with Ohio sb too make this possible, just mail him, it should be the solution for the people without a license who want too go on the track also. Take care that you update the fuelmap for race use, the difference is big. | ||

Dris, I am now able to work with the race ECM. Should have it installed today. Next race is next weekend. It will be a long wait. | ||
