Man this Exhaust is loud but I love it. My boss on the other hand told me my bike sounds like Shit. But my wife seems turned on by the sound

Anyone else notice improved fuel mileage after loosing the stock exhaust? I am seeing about a 2 MPG improvement

And now its really difficult to play nice on the streets.

Looks good and yes it is loud. I had to wear ear plugs when I had it on mine.

Yes I am wearing earplugs as well. With Ear plugs it sounds really sweet. I thought it would wear on me but its really not as loud riding it as it is standing next to it. I put about 150 miles on the new pipe yesterday and had no ringing or issues. I also had to wear earplugs when I had my Drummer so that was no surprise to me.

The bike is also heck of a lot more enjoyable with the new exhaust. The bike seems more free revving and responsive in the lower and mid rpms then it was with the stock can.

"He's just your boss, but a happy wife is a happy life"

Yes that is very important. Makes it much easier to spend money.

We had some trees being cut down from our front yard yesterday. I just happen to stop by at home for lunch with the bike when they were working. When I left they asked my wife. Man what did he put in that thing? It sounds awesome. She asked them if they new what kind of bike it was and they responded is it foreign? She says no. They then said Buell. She says yes and left at that.

My wife says it was a proud moment for her.

I bought a used bike with a D&D can on it and I promptly removed it and installed a LeoVince.

A bike doesn't have to be loud to make good power.

Loud bikes lose rights!

Pricks that don't follow the laws loose rights. If you ride respectfully with a loud exhaust rights do not get taken.

But that is just my .02

Pssssssst: There are laws governing how loud your exhaust should be. By riding with an exhaust that exceeds these limits, you're already breaking the law.

Unfortunately, rather than enforce EXISTING laws, municipalities come up with dumber and more discriminatory laws that affect ALL motorcyclists, not just the cement-heads that are causing the problem.

Short Sound Clip. Might be loud but it's fun and brings out the Hooligan in you when riding.

NEVER count on a loud pipe to keep you safe. No one can tell where the sound is coming from, and not only do they license the deaf in all fifty states, but the deaf do NOT have any identifying markers on their cars so you can pick them out.

When you renew your driver's license, they give you an EYE test, NOT a hearing test. That alone speaks volumes.

Sound is topic that (obviously) raises personal as well as legal issues. Here's an interesting article from the AMA. While the tone is clearly anti-loud, IMO it does try to put it into perspective to ensure that motorcyclists aren't discriminated against unfairly:

http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/story.asp?id=609

BTW: The sound clip sounds sweet and the exhaust looks good on the bike, dBA issues aside!

Yeah so far I am real happy. I have put about 250 mile on this pipe over the last two days. The guys I rode with today said it was loud when we were standing still but while riding they couldnt hear me over their own pipes on their XB's. I think the sound really mellows and smooths out under engine load.

Time will tell. So far I have encountered four cops and one motorcycle cop on the side of the road with a Radar gun pointed at me. But they all ignored me.

i dont know what the hell you are talking about. i put a D&D last summer sure its hard to tell where the sound is coming from. What it does is make is make the other motorists aware which usually leads them to look in their mirrors. I cant tell how many times that can stopped people from coming into my lane.

Just my 2 cents

So I guess no one better remove the stock exhaust then. Its tested and approved to 80 dba. Anything louder is breaking the law so lets all be happy with stock sound and performance.

Psssst. You better tell all the Harley riders, Drummer fans, Jardine, etc.

Come on give the lectures a break its getting old.

I run a Jardine and will continue to do so until the pry my cold dead hands off of the throttle.
And yes I am one of those pricks, but I ride respectfully in town, I go to work at 0430 every morning and my neighbors when I ask do not even know when I take off.

It pisses me off everyone bitches about loud ass exhaust on bikes but I pull up to a stop light and I have to listen to bullshit like KANYE WEST, YOUNG JEEZY or some other shit from 3-4 cars behind or ahead of me.

+1

I find that cars move out of my way and let me pass a lot more frequent than when running a stock pipe. Even though it might not come from where they thin kits coming they look to see what the heck it is and then move. But that's not why i got it, its just a bonus. I like the look and was looking for improved performance. I do believe I I accomplished it. I will be taking it in for another Dyno to see where I am at AFR wise but it already made a huge difference over stock. Power is very very noticeable over my stock can running my custom tuned map.

But you guys are missing an important point- wife is happy.

I love my quiet bike and with my fitted earbuds I can hear NOTHING (looking at adding a mic and "mixing" in ambient noise).

My air horn handles all the "traffic notification" chores. I'm looking at adding a 2nd or putting the spare Motorola Syntor 100W siren on the Uly.

Mufflers over 80dB will get you promptly stopped in NYC, the bike impounded and you pay the towing and impound while they remove and dispose of your illegal pipe.

In my case . .. life's too short for that crap and I hate to see all the folks complaining about banning motorcycles due to noise.

They will actually impound your bike and have your pipe removed? Do they give you the pipe back? Do they give you your bike back with no muffler? I am surprised such a tactic has not been successfully appealed. A ticket I can understand. Even not allowing you to continue on, possibly. But impounding your bike and removing the pipe, wow! Do they impound cars with burned out headlights and tail lights as well?

I don't have a particularly loud exhaust on my bike, but it is not stock. Just another reason to stay out of NYC I suppose.

Didn't mean to start a flame war, just giving a helpful tip. Most people aren't riders. Most, in fact, HATE motorcycles. To them, we are all hooligans who disrespect the law, rape, pillage, plunder, and any other unspeakable thing you can think of.

The sad thing is, these people pay taxes and vote. They make campaign contributions. Even if every motorcycle rider in the country banded together to fight the inaccurate stereotypes, we'd have too few to make any difference.

Nothing wrong with having a great sounding bike as long as you understand that the vast majority of people don't want to hear it and it makes you an easy target for that cop running radar a few miles down your favorite twisty.

Not passing judgment on anyone....just making a point. In fact, both my motorcycle have aftermarket exhaust on them.

most of us have NO idea how precarious our riding privileges really are. All it takes is one member of a legislature to get a hair up her/his ass and bye bye our rights. How about the smog check for CA bikes for one example?

Chad is right. The general public hates us and would vote against us in a friggin heartbeat.

My guess is HP limits in the future. It will be the same argument as banning assault rifles...."what in the world would a person need a 160 rwhp bike for?"

God that would be a sad day.
