Old, old news here. About a year old. Just when a bunch of us noticed the front fender wearing the brake line to the braid the first pics of the 09 1125s came out with the line routed outside the fork tube. The way mine was going once the braid was bare it would of cut deep into the fender long before the line got to the tire. I didn't like the "outside" look so I rigged up an extra support from an S3 and a piece of small hose (pic). When I had the line replaced instead of using my tubing the dealer used another of the rubber pieces from the other brake line supports which looks better. Keeps the line off all the moving parts very well.  (Message edited by unibear12r on April 05, 2009) | ||

Yup...I solved this one myself. The last time I had my front tire off, I took the brake calipers off and routed the brake line on the OTHER side of the fork. About a 5 minute job. Easy. | ||

When the 09's came out I noticed the brake line was routed on the outside of the fork, instead of the inside. So that is what prompted me to make the move. (I did also notice a little rubbing on my brake line.) | ||

+1 Drake I did the same. When I replaced the front tire and brake pads, routed mine as the 09s. I just checked HDnet vehicle info and all my campaigns show complete. No mention of a brake line related recall yet. "THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE APRIL 20, 2009." Z | ||

In January I had stiffer springs installed in the forks of my '08 1125R track bike. Took it to the track and didn't notice the routing on the front brake line which was obscured. Later in the day I was at the end of the long straight at ~130, started to apply the front brake and the lever went all the way to grip. The brake line had rubbed through. Great experience. The next weekend I was at Vegas and noticed that the Latus bikes both had their front brake lines routed out side the forks. One also had that plastic wrap used on wire bundles on the brake line. That's how mine is setup now. | ||

Kttemplar, is the 'o8 brake line long enough to re route to the outside or do you need the '09 line? I've just noticed that mine has been rubbing too. | ||

Memo came out from Buell, reroute on 2008 1125R, Oct 30, 2007-July 17, 2008, 2009 XB12R July 2, 2008-Feb 12,2009 and 2009 XB12SCG July 1,2008- Feb 10,2009. reroute brake cable and replace if worn. Crowley, The '08 brake line is long enough. The only difference is that the line runs on the outside of the fork instead of on the inside. If anything, the line does not have to travel as far on the outside as it does to run around the inside.  Mike | ||

make sure the line is not rubbing the fork upper tube, mine has a little valley in it from the line rubbing the fork. i rerouted some time back when i noticed it although it is still on the inside of the tube. tim | ||

Thanks, re routed mine today. A few strands of the stainless braid had broken but it'll be ok until next time I visit the dealer to get the non leaky clutch solution fitted - which Buell UK have told me is in the testing phase. | ||

To stop the line rubbing the anodised finish off the forks, a section of small plastic drinks bottle can be cut out and mounted with a tie wrap. There's a convenient lip on the bottle section that fits over the bottom of the fork tube. The brake line is sheathed because some of the stainless braid has been cut and is very sharp.
