This Ducati Streetfighter looks like trouble to me.

Basically a naked 1098 with traction control, they are claiming 155 hp and 85 ft. lb.s of torque.

Nasty looking too.

Already discussed. Koolaid drinking fan bois on this site have already hated on it and the KTM. I for one would buy it if it had a slipper clutch and the Monster flyscreen.

Where?

I need to read that discussion so I can kick myself for buying a KTM . . . I'm sure Steve, the moment his new Brutale arrives, will want to kick himself too.

Hell . . . maybe we'll kick each other.

I spend a good deal of time at the New Jersey Ducati dealer and wouldn't be surprised to see it sell like hotcakes. We have the good fortune to have a really good dealer (rarer by the way than good Buell dealers) in the area.

Cool pic!

Not as bad as the earlier models though.
I hear they've halved the cost and doubled the intervals?
Aside from the initial price, I'm still not convinced about their everyday usability though...

A lot of people have deposits down on the Streetfighter.

Fortunate enough to have one of those great Duc dealers here also.

Some are, some aren't.

To a degree lots of it, go figure, is personal taste.

Many of the "Ducati's will ruin your life" tales hold water as well as some of the stories about Buell.

As I said, we are lucky to have a good dealer in the area.

MikeyP, our boy model of responsible behavior, just bought a 1098 and is absolutely thrilled with it.

My bet is that there will be some folks go wild over them . . . I've seen very few Ducati's that don't elicit a degree of lust just looking at them.

Don't think it's like that at all.

Probably no different than the 1125R.
No offense meant.

I owned a 998 (2002)

Cool bike. Really cool bike.

Maintenance was a bit daunting for me- the only bike I have ever owned where I did not feel comfortable with the valve checks and the cam belt replacements, but I believe the new ones are better in that regard as was mentioned.

All kidding aside, would not stop me from buying another Ducati at all. Just need my expectations managed going into it.

Oddly enough, as Court said- basically about personal taste and all, I sold my XB12Ss to buy my CR. I found out I really missed my XB- for a lot of the same reasons of good looks, sound design, and ride experience appeal. I really missed it. So these things are very subjective and very satisfying ownership experiences ensue.

I had to - HAD to get another XB.

Ahhh, the cool-aid tastes great! *burp*

wait that was supposed to be a picture of a glass of cool aid... oh, well a Sleestack will work too I guess

Nothing better than the look on the face of a Sleestack.

Easy . . take your Porsche in for an oil change the day before. Then you'll want to hug your Ducati mechanic.

Like I said above, I'd buy it. Ducati often has good niche dealers in the big cites, but gets fully neglected elsewhere. Sad. FWIW, San Diego has a great dealer on G St by the 94. No appoinment for test drives of the 1098/1198! The bike is sick and FI is seamless. Torque curve isn't linear, more like a narrow sine* wave with 2 peaks. It actually is nearly as good as a flat curve...no real suprises. FYI, th 848 wafflecrushes the 749 and 999 and is quite comfortable (not as good as Buell though). Nothing like an MV Augusta. I'm not sure how they sell that F4R in street. It's BRUTALE; )

*preps for flame war, please ignore*

Court compares everything to poor Porsche service support. It's like dog owners comparing their pups poop piles rather than breed merits, it all stinks, so lets keep the debate focused.

I was referring to the RC8, which, since you don't seem like a sportbike guy (ALL HE DOESN'T OWN AN 1125R), I assume you didn't buy it.

Where?
Search flame war Court?

You can take it!...being part italian myself but mostly german-austrian...I'll stick with my scorpion bug looks of the CR! and the power/handling(potential of the 1125 engine) to go with it after I was helping with Buell/HD at Fontana AMA Superbike races winning big time on basically stock bikes..and the parts you can buy(not factory like all the other's), Go Danny! Eslick! Never were there so many demo's afterward on all the bikes from even the factory japanese bike guys after the winning by Buell or beating...I did not see those Ducs or Aprilia's do so well...with even more power and factory backing. Hey we have an International Buell with Some Italian/german/austrian/American/Japanese,etc. mix....a mutt like me...perfecto!

But you can give me one for free with the maintenance agreement. All in fun...I live for Buell now and just wait for all the winning and race results this year and watch out for 2010! Yah I like a little action reaction to this......

I love them all - every one. I'd own one of each if I could. I hope to be adding this one to the stable very soon. MV Agusta Brutale 1078. 154 HP @ 11,650 - 86 FT-LB @ 8,100 - 408lb dry.

Huh? . . never said that. Porsche support here is GREAT. . . at least it was last Saturday.

Sharp eyes will recognize the dude in the green shirt as a 4 time I.S.D.T, medalist, famous Buell owner (who's never been on the internet) and a fellow who built an airplane in his yard and flew it to Florida and back . . .

Nah . . . . I'm not sure you read any of my post. The Porsche service in this area is spectacular and so is the Ducati service.

Nice bike...

I honestly wouldn't be able to afford my Ducati if i couldn't fit my new pistons or time my new cams myself.Nor would i be interested in ownership if it meant paying someone to wrench a Duc....OR a Porsche.

In the old days we all did a pre-ride wrench
to be sure and safe

Never had any coolaid myself -- I just don't really love that bike's look. For me, the last Duc I really loved the look of was the 748 -- since then I can appreciate the look and design but I don't love 'em. Same for the Triumphs, KTMs, etc. Anyways, I can't see much of the bike while I'm riding it so aside from looking to draw a crowd while I am grabbing a bite or a beer (and I don't like people near my baby...makes me anxious) does anyone really want a showstopper. I take something that makes me smile going round the bends, weird I know.

YMMV of course, whatever makes you smile!

(Dang, now I am thirsty...)

I don't think anyone is saying that the naked 1098 isn't a great bike.

For 50-60% more in price, it should be.

I don't believe that it's existence precludes CR sales.

I wouldn't buy one simply because I don't see spending the money that one would cost, I don't like the higher premium that parts bring, I don't care for the additional per hour charge for service. That, and I don't want to have to deal with the local "sucker born every minute" dealership.

I do find it odd that individuals would come to a Buell enthusiast's board and be shocked when they are devoted to their "brand".

Stranger still is those who feel that they must be the self appointed anti-fanboy so that they can show the rest of us the light.
