Once you get past the legions of loyal Buell fans, it seems the vast majority of people think it's STUPID to run that bike with the 600s.

Really? Not the people I talked to this weekend at the Fontana race. Knowledgable racing fans understand the advantages of the IL4 engine in a racing application versus the V-Twin. The ignorant "fans" simply look at the displacement numbers and form an opinion (sound like some people here?)

Have the Twins in the Daytona sportbike class creates more diverse, more competitve and more interesting racing. We will see, but the Buell seems to be a good fit in the class. I don't think you will see many races where Danny has a 6-7 second lead during a race (like on Saturday.) On the other hand he did lead wire to wire in both races--I don't remmember seeing that happen too much last year in Supersport or FX.

I feel sorry for you guys who are trying to piss on this parade. It's a shame you can't enjoy this past weekend like most of us are....it's was completely awesome watching the Buell win twice.

Danny and Barney are GREAT representatives for Buell. Super nice people. Danny is a happy go lucky type and very popular in the paddock. Great with the fans. Buell nees to latch onto this kid now for the longterm.

"Lets target the 1000cc class and skip the people thinking we played in the special olympics on steroids."

That's how I see it. This was a good start, now on to the real challenge in the superbike class.

Timi, that sounds so silly when the largest part of the bike was not made in America. Support Buell but don't smack the US flag on it as its not even powered by US built engine.

This is not Buell bashing its facts so we don't sound stupid when we talk in public. Just the facts please

Nobody told the jap crowd they HAD to bring an I-4 600 to the SPORTBIKE class. I'd like to see them get pissed and introduce a v-twin!

I'm sorry, you guys. I'm glad you're all happy and such, but I CAN'T get excited about a bike that pounds out more horsepower, more torque, and more displacement than the competition WINNING races. Jeez, if that bike CAN'T beat 600s then what's the point?? And I'm not the only one who feels that way. Once you get past the legions of loyal Buell fans, it seems the vast majority of people think it's STUPID to run that bike with the 600s.

You aren't listening.

How do you KNOW there is such a wide spread between bikes on the dyno?

You are looking at the spec sheets?

You REALLY believe that Buell would be allowed to put a race can and tune and those poor IL4 guys are stuck pulling a bike off the dealership floor and putting stickers on it?

Get real.

The spread is no more than a few HP once you factor in weight.

Is it unfair for Ducati to be running at 180-200HP when other IL4's aren't able to put out that much power?

Spin spin spin.

If they could capture the spin and convert it to energy, we wouldn't need oil.

Here, a definition of which you should familiarize yourself.

We just dynoed an AFM spec R-6 and it was not a full on race motor, it was 128 HP,so not hard to see where those bike would be close to the 140 HP limit.

Til then, shut up, take off and find someone who cares about your ignorant opinions.

Jaimec,

Nice of the article to pick the weakest bike of the group, the Honda, and then understate the HP.

The 2008, stock, has a claimed HP of 118 rather than the 105 claimed in the article.

So let me get this right.

If you were going to start a PRIVATEER race team, and you could pick any bike you wanted, and race in any class you wanted, you'd read the rule book, and purposely choose a class you had no chance at winning, or would you find a class where you thought you could compete?

I think that's all Buell did. They didn't make the rules.

If you want to find fault, or a reason why the same old boring HondaKawaYammaSuzki didn't win....AGAIN....then call up DMG and complain.

Meanwhile, I'll enjoy the racing.

What? Well, that means Buell had an unfair advantage. They had clear duct tape....the rest had to use the heavier colored duct tape.

Oh the humanity!

Who the hell wants to watch NASCAR/IROC on motorcycles with the entire field running the same spec engine?

The history of motorcycle racing is littered with leaps in performance and competitors striving to catch up.

What if you could get a 600cc with 146hp at the crank as a result of competing against Buell?

I think one problem with the perception of what's going on is people are looking at "Buell" as if they are the wizard of Oz - behind some curtain pulling all the strings and making all the decisions.

Buell makes motorcycles. They support racing efforts with contingency money, racing parts and, where appropriate, technical advice and expertise.

Shawn Higbee is a motorcycle racer who is trying to put together an AMA race effort with the help of Bartel's Harley Davidson after racing Moto-ST with Richie Morris Racing last year.

Team Latus Racing is a two rider (Josh Bryan, Alan Schmidt) team run by Latus Harley Davidson.

Harley Davidson of Frederick Maryland Sponsors Brian Bemisderfer.

Richie Morris Racing has Danny Eslick and Michael Barnes. RMR made a big leap by going from Moto-St last year to the AMA this year. This is they highest level of racing they have ever done. RMR is supporte by Bruce Rossmeyer Harley Davidson and Geico insurance.

Even if, hypothetically, Buell said: "Okay, everybody, we want you all to move to Superbike" the result would likely be a big "Screw You".

Shawn H. is already riding in Superbike and of the others, only Richie Morris Racing and, more specifically, Danny Eslick would have a chance of making it to the middle of the pack.

Geico didn't sign on to sponsor a team running in the middle of the pack in Superbike. They signed on because Richie Morris sold them on the idea that his team could be competitive in Sportbike. So far (after the first two races), he looks to be coming through on his promise.

Hopefully Geico and RMR have discussed the possibility of racing Superbike at some future point and I'm all for that, but, for now, RMR needs to focus and finish the commitment he made to race Sportbike.

Last Friday, no Buell motorcycle had ever won a single, major road race. Now that Danny Eslick has two wins under his belt everybody has decided they're above this messy business of building race successes from the ground up. I'll bet if you asked Jamie Hacking a month ago what he thought of competing with Buells he would have scoffed. What threat would he see from a bike like that? Even at Daytona, Danny and his Buell were a joke: "Ha! Piece of crap is falling apart."

Give the teams some time to develop methodically. There is no team anywhere currently racing a Buell that has anything approaching the experience and resources of the top AMA teams. The AMA will prevent them from running away with things and there's a lot of learning still to be done. They're trying to board a train that's moving 100 mph. Hopping on the train at a point where it's moving a little slower isn't something to be embarrassed about . . . it's just good, common sense.

Lets modify that to say major AMA roadrace. The french wins last year were pretty major in that world.

Other than picking nits ++ on that post.

To sum this thread up, I'll offer the same advice I offered on another forum.

To Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki....

Don't bring a knife to a gun fight and complain about getting shot. LOL! : )

Bring back the TL1000R and RC51. : )

So if i walk to the Honda factory team at the end of the season, and offer them $20,000 for their as-is, used up, $9000 "mostly stock" bike, they would be all over it, right? Cause its just stock.

Let us know how that goes ; )

RC61 with 1199cc?

Mmmmmmmmmmm.....Growley!!!!!

I couldn't give a crap about ANOTHER IL4 bike.

How long till ALL of them have cross plane crankshafts?

Wow, that's original.

New plastics, bold new colors?

For the first time, in a REALLY long time, there is a new design on the scene.

I'm excited. The rules will get sorted out. If Buell dominates, they'll adjust. If Buell doesn't, Buell will make adjustments and try again.

The great thing about motorcycles that rarely exists in automobiles is variations in engine configurations. Unless you want a homogenized field of clone bikes equal down to the ounce and HP, there have to be rules that allow for those variations.

It means that not all bikes will fit neatly into the box.

So, are you saying the 600s have illegal modifications that DMG can't catch or are unwilling to look for? The rules are pretty clear that there's very few non-stock parts allowed. Did you read the rules? Doesn't DMG randomly pull apart a few of the racebikes to look for illegal modifications? This is the same outfit that runs Nascar, right?}

No, but the modifications they do have they don't want out in the public.

They ain't "bone stock", but the modifications are within the rules (usually).
