I thought I had it figured out and I was wrong. I have a Tom Tom One. That I want to mount on my 1125r. Can I find a cable that will connect from the GPS to the accessory switch under my fairing. Where can I find a mount? If someone could send me a link I would be greatful. Thanks in advance | ||

Hmmm, most of us have the Zumo 550 or Quest. RAM mounts should have something you could use for mounting. The ZUmo and Quest will mount to the bolts that hold either the clutch or brake levers. Do a search for Tom Tom mounts here on BWB or Google. As far as the accy plug, one rider found the pins/ sockets that could be crimped onto some leads. I just bought the Uly accy lighter and will use the plug. Later Neil S. | ||

yes, you can build your own plug using the dummy socket that's plugged into the access. socket. You need two pins and two rubber boots - I think the total order will run you less than $1. I forget where to get it from, but either a search, or someone will chime in with the pertinant info. | ||

Why do you have to build a plug? Didn't Buell want the plug to be able to be used? I don't understand. Or is it a proprietary plug that was only to be used with certain Buell accessories? | ||

The plug is used by the Uly accessory outlets, the heated grips, possibly the Buell Zumo, and future accessories. | ||

I believe that it was Neil (Ccryder) that also recommended the arm that splits in the middle. I switched over to that and it is much more easy to position the GPS. I highly recommend it for any GPS mount. RAP-B-200-12U  Thanks again Neil, for the suggestion. It works great!! Mike | ||

You guys are great. I think I have it figured out now, but will wait see if you guys tell me I'm correct. First I found the # of the Uly ass lighter (Y0198.1AK) Once I have it and plug it in the the plug under my fairing. I should be able to plug my GPS right in. Now all I have to do is decide on a mount. Thanks again guys and if you see something I missed let me know. | ||

Yep that's the plan. One word of caution (based on experience) I tried using a lighter type socket at the beginning and soon realized that bouncing around that happens on a M/C will sometimes give you intermittent power. Try it that way but, realize you may need to find a means to "hard wire" it in the future. Some, not all GPS' and sat radios do not use 12v for power. That nice little plug that fits the accy outlet converts the 12v to 5 volts or something like that. If you discover that the accy plug connection is an issue, I can help you with the 5v issue. Now that I have the bike, I too would love to be able to use onboard GPS. I also have a Garmin Nuvi. Its very small but does the job fine. Its obviously not rain proof so having the ability to mount it forward inside the fairing would keep it out of the weather. Any tips would definitely be appreciated. The Nuvi is 5 volt unit and only has a large adapter on the end of it. I dont require GPS very often but it would be handy. Off topic a bit but I used to have a speed camera thing on my old CityX. I was able to power it off of the ECM Spy Lead sockey. That was a switched 12 volts. Does the 1125R have the same socket hidden away under the saddle? | ||

Plumpton, you can get waterproof clear boxes, and then fit them to RAM mounts - here's a link to a UK website to show the sort of thing : http://www.buybits.com/product/sku_3554.aspx I think the diagnostics socket is in the left hand radiator pod - that's where the ECU lives - at least it does on a 1125R - if that's what you are referring to - does it have a dedicated power supply ? Was wondering about one of these http://www.ram-mount.com/pdf/ramb342uassemblyweb.p df I already have a cradle for my Nuvi 250 coz I used to use it on my XB. That'll get the gps mounted but it'll still be in the elements unless I get one of those boxes... Another option is to screw a ram mount ball right in to the front between the lights and then stuff my nuvi in there on a slightly longer arm... | ||

Plumpton, been there, it doesn't fit as the hole in the steering tube "nut" is too small - well on an R it is. I ended up making my own using some 6 mm threaded rod and a few other bits and pieces - it goes through the hollow steering stem and it works a treat. | ||

How best should I open up the left hand pod to get to the socket? Been told its exactly the same so my inforad GPS "safety" camera detector should just plug in. All I need to do is mount the box of tricks somewhere and thats that job done. Is it not the norm to use this socket as a power source in the 1125 world? | ||

Could you not use the accessory socket that this thread started off about ? There should be one in the fairing on your R, I think that it's mentioned in the owners manual - can't check as I've misplaced mine ! As to the diagnostic socket, try asking Pashlipops on UKBeg. | ||

my zumo was wired to the accessory plug under the fairing. it took about 5 minutes to make the plug with the parts ordered over the internet. i'll have to get some pics of how i've got mine set up. i did have to do some modification of the mounting hardware to get it to work, though. | ||

Paul: There are plenty of other ways to power anything than using the ECM plug. You could run into some REAL issues using that plug.   I've got some other picts but can't find them right now. The Zumo mount works w/o any real changes. I did add the arm that rotates in the middle: (thanks Mike) Just because I am a perpetual tinkerer, I may add a Ram ball mount on my clutch reservoir cover just to move things towards the front. Right now since I always run a tank bag, the Zumo can run into the tankbag. Btw, I did not power my Zumo from the accy. plug. Since I have a number of devices up front I ran an accessory harness from the back of the bike that is key controlled via another relay. Time2Run. Neil S. | ||

I have mine on the clutch side and situated so that it clears the fairing but is out of the way of the gas tank and IC.   I built the plug and plugged it into the accessory plug under the fairing. All of the mounting hardware came with the Zumo. Mike | ||

For the Nuvi guys, here is a mount that could attach to the frame inside the fairing, and keep the GPS tucked under the windscreen, out of the rain. Just a thought. It uses a strap.  | ||

Neil, I know what you mean. When that happens to me, I just move my head around until my helmet creates a shadow on the display so that I can see it. I also live in NY right now, which is not necessarily know for being a really sunny place, at least as far as I know. I hope that will change soon though. I am looking to move to either TX or AZ, with TX being the preferred location. I may have to move the GPS if I move somewhere more sunny. Mike | ||
