Zack....I had posted oh so long ago about my LFL coming on and going off whilst riding, and this is with the '08 cluster which I still have

so me thinks it is not exclusive to the '08 bike with an '09 cluster

just my .02 cents, which is worth less today than yesterday

Thanks for that Bob.
I wasn't aware of LFL coming on like that.
Your issue sounds more like what Anony was referring to...

When I saw the low-battery explanation on my iPhone, I had to get home to rebuff it.

My LFL/CEL combo comes on 2-3 minutes after start-up, battery is at 14+ then.
It's really little more than an annoyance that is turning into a nagging one....
Guess I'm OCD about historic DTCs.

I BELIEVE most people who've had the mysterious "4th flash" done have seen the LFL/CEL problem go away.

That problem seems to exist ONLY with the 09 clusters (either stock on an 09 model, or an 08 model that was upgraded).

My light will come on every now and then but when mine comes on usually the check engine light will stay on with it . They both turn off together as well . Not going to even bother bringing it in cause I don't want to dealer to just replace parts if they are not sure what the problem is .

That's what I'm hoping for too Dave.
I have talked to Service about the issue and the first try was check for most current firmware... no fix.
I really dislike "shotgun diagnostics" but it's looking like - try the pump/sender, if no go, the IC would be next.

I really don't want Loretta down for a week or two to fix an annoyance.
The remedy is worse than the disease.

Just bring it in and tell them you want the most recent reflash.

Does anyone know how this flash is identified to the dealer so we can have that information too?

I'll have them check it again and get a printout with the full cal number.
I was told, after telling them I had xxx03Z, that the new cal ended in 05Z.
Still having issues with B1005 error on warm-up.

I was told by my dealer two days ago the latest flash ends in 04Z??? I'm holding out on whatever the correct flash# is anyway for now. The LFL clears pretty quick & only happens if I haven't ridden in a few days.

I have the 04Z flash(with the digi tech print out to confirm it), and the 09 cluster with 6.1, and haven't had any problems with LFL/CEL.

Might be the difference in ambient temperatures.
Mornings here are below freezing and normal high is around 55 dF.

As I said, I have the most current flash and I see LFL/CEL combo several times a day here.
IC SW version is 6.1, CAL is 1.0

I've been having the same problem. Mine only seems to occur once the bike is warm ie CT cold turns off. When are all of you seeing it occur?

well had the LFL/CEL issue again on Sunday, nice warm day as well - they went out after CT Cold had gone out - that is with the latest reflash and the 6.1 IC cluster - looks like we are back to square one again.

Definitely related to ambient temperatures.
I had a week of unseasonably warm weather and no LFL/CEL.
As soon as the temps dropped again, I see it.
Came on twice yesterday, at cold start and a little later on a warm re-start.

Thinking about this I had filled the fuel level up from a jerry can that had been standing overnight in the car, air temperature had dropped overnight down to about 3 degrees c, the bike had been in the garage maintained at 5 degrees C minimum, with a peak of 10 degrees C yet when the colder fuel was poured into the bike with the bike outside in the road and then the ignition turned on low and behold the LFL/CEL came on and stayed on until the engine warmed up enough for CT cold to change to an actual reading - this is getting beyond a joke - I expect instrumentation to work or why bother to fit it in the first place. We had reserve fuel taps which obviously didn't have this kind of problem and yes I know that the fuel flowing through the pump assembly lubricates the rotating parts and it is essential to prevent the pump from actually drying out.

I'm still having the LFL/CEL/code problem on cold start, too.

I do NOT have an 09 cluster.

Anybody know the Tech Tip # documenting the LFL issue? I'd like to help give the dealer a head-start on resolving this.

If you're talking about the number that starts from 0 once your LFL comes on ... than that is showing how many miles you've driven on reserve (or since your LFL came on).

When my LFL kicks in, I head to the gas station. I personally wouldn't go more than 20 miles, and prefer to keep it under 10 miles. Not sure what the actual limit might be though.

Hey Rockstarblast1, you might want to read your manual... It's that thick booklet that came with the bike. Don't let the size scare you, nearly half of it has to be CAUTION and WARNING disclaimers.

Anyway, I got 26 miles on reserve the one time I ran out. That was before the first ECU flash. Might be able to get 30 now, but generally I agree with Ponti1 and head to the station shortly after seeing it stay on for more than 1 mile. I've noticed it'll come on and go off a few times before remaining on; particularly when hitting some curves followed by straights.

However, this thread is about incorrect operation of the fuel light, particularly when accompanied with a check engine light.
