Mine just started leaking at 4000 miles from the weep hole.I read thru a bunch of posts on the subject. Seems that many have had the problem and many trips to the dealer.
My question is does anyone know if the dealer has come up with a one trip sure fix. Or are still doing what they deem needed on a bike to bike basis.
Thank All

2008 or 2009 model? There are two clutch cover designs...

Some 2008 owners have reported good success with a "Rev. B" clutch cover that is now standard on the 2009 models.

I'm ready for attempt number 3.

I question whether or not I just machine the bore for an S/S sleeve like we do on old corvette brake calipers?

Come on...does it really need to come to this from the outside?

All updates to Rev "whatever" have been done on ours...

Any input from those in the know, PRIOR to this riding season?

More than one serious owner, obviously, would like to understand the horse's head.

Read...engineer's input concerning a true resolve to a known hydro/mechanical problem since day one. mm

Sly, you've got a leaky "Rev. B"? Sorry, I hadn't heard of that reported by anyone...

My '08 began leaking at about mile 35. I'm at about 475 and it "spots" whenever it's parked. Nice dribble down the muffler too. Needless to say I won't tell my buds with Japanese bikes about this one, I can hear it now...

I've got three other Rev b upgrades on previous fixes with the same issue.

Some don't like to talk...they monitor only.

Also...some of the bleeder screws are weeping fluid due to poor machine/interface/sealing issues...

Go figure. Suffice to report that some of us are seeking ONE more trip for a known fix to the minority still out there, prior to warranty being up.

Hellgate, have you taken your bike to the dealership to get that taken care of yet?

Sly,

I have a pretty good tech at my dealership. When they upgraded my clutch cover to Rev B, he wouldn't do it until he ordered more internal parts. Somehow he knew that a new Clutch Cover was not going to fix the leaky problem. I believe he replaced all the internals too (piston, sleeve, etc...)

Several thousand miles later, mine is still drip free (knock on wood).

I'm headed there tomorrow to see what they can do.

I've got a track day on Monday, will this be an issue or will I need to reschedule?

Hellgate,

They usually just "weep". If yours is dripping, I am surpised you even have enough fluid left in there for it to activate properly.

Plus, dripping stuff on the track is frowned upon.

I ran mine for about 1000 miles with a weep, and everything was still working fine, though.

In the Army we would consider this a class 2 leak, ie: forms a drop. It's not puking like a radiator will, and will be fine for the track.

I'm not counting on much from the dealer as I was there last week to buy an oil filter and crush washers, and the didn't have any washers at either of there locations, gotta wait 10 to 14 days.

Mine is a 08. Still wonder if theirs a solid fix for the problem without multiple trips to the dealer. One that Buell came up with to make it right.Pehaps someone in the know on the subject.
Thanks again

Get 'em from Home Depot/Lowe's/O'Reilly's/Autozone/Etc.

Call around, I'm sure you can find 'em.

I have had numerous problems with my clutch leaking, prior to and after the Rev B cover install. The last thing they did was to replace all of the pistons and linings. I guess the lining is aluminum or some other "not so hard" metal and my buell tech and I toyed with the idea of doing a S/S sleeve as Sly alluded to, but replacing the pistons and sleeves the last time has done the trick, so far.

I have also had problems with the bleeder screw leaking. After the bleeder is removed, it seems tight when replaced, but it can get a turn or two more after riding and heating up. I have had the cover and clutch taken apart so many times that I have experienced this quite often. I just tighten it about three or four times(ride, let it heat up, then put a turn or two on it) after letting it heat up and it (the bleeder screw, not to be confused with the weep hole below the button) eventually will quit leaking. I have fairly decent documentation of all the clutch, as well as any other problems I have had in my profile.

A fix is on its way. This is the inside word from Buell. They are working on a new design piston and seal kit. If yours is leaking I would wait until the new designed parts are out because the old parts are a waste of time to install. My bike is patiently waiting at the dealer for the parts to be released. Good luck to all!

So why do some leak and other do not? Was this just a case of poor process control when mfg the parts? Or improper assembly procedure?

6000 miles on Rev A with no issues so far.

Got Rev. B here and no more problems. The bleeder started to leak, but a nice snugging of it and no more problem.

I just noticed mine leaking around 4k miles. Going to take it in this week. 2008 and I'm guessing original cover.

I looked at mine closer today and at the bleed valve it barely leaks. Now at the cover hole...it really leaks...worse than I thought. Nice splatter on the muffler. I see duct tape over the hole for my track day. Headed to the dealer to see what he has to say. Bummer on a brand new bike.

Mine leaked at 4K miles. Two trips to the dealer.

First trip: Discuss it and get Buell on the phone. All associated slave cylinder parts were ordered (including he cover).
Second trip: Repair

It is now months and 12K miles later and the problem has not re-occurred.

I first noticed mine leaking at about 1000 miles. At 3500 miles the dealer finally got the seals to fix it and did the repair that included the cover. This time will be the 4th repair for the leak and the bike has 5 miles on it since the first repair. It was cold and icy and the bike went back and forth from my house to the dealer on a trailer. The 5 miles that was put on it was just the ride back to the dealer this last time. I looked at the seals that were replaced and they really didn't look like they will seal all that great compared to seals that I've seen in other hydraulic systems. This revised piston and seals sounds like it will be a more permanent fix.

I've got a question. Has anyone that had the cover replaced removed the end cap to see the piston since the repair? I noticed that the weep hole is a little higher and it would probably take a while for the fluid to get up to it so it will leak out. This may be why it appears to be fixed.

Yup...just "heard" that a true fix is on the way so we'll hang out.

Hopefully, the rest of "us" will be leak/weep/dribble, ect... free come spring!

Thanks Chevycummins for the heads up!

So is this the correct "definitive" list of parts needed for repairing this?

CE0006.1AM - Ring, Retaining
CF0001.1AM - O-Ring
CF0007.1AMA - O-Ring DIN 3771-45X2-N (x2)
CF0010.1AM - O-Ring
CR0001.1AM - Piston Lining
CR0002.1AM - Piston Lining
H0412.1A0 - Crush Washer
M0741.1AM - Graphic, Clutch Cover
R1029A.1AM - Diaphragm Ring (Clutch CV)
CF0023.1AM O-Ring, DIN 3771-17X2-N
R0009.1AM - Gasket
X0077.1AM - Seal, OIL A 20X35X7 FPM

Mine just started weeping last weekend and I want to help my Buell tech as much as possible. Am I missing any numbers? Are there numbers listed here that are NOT needed?
