The Buell site shows:
Urban 35.5 MPG
Highway 47.1 MPG

Anybody getting even close to these numbers? Granted the mags ride these things like they stole 'em, but every report I've seen rings in about 10MPG less than those figures.

My overall average for the last 2000 miles or so has been 39 mpg and I do the occasional triple digit run and average probably 75-80 most of the time on the highway. If I slow down to 60, it shows about 55 mpg, but I can't seem to hold it there for too long.

whoops, just noticed it said CR, not R.

Didn't we just have a post just like this relatively recently?

All manufacturers use figures inconsistent with real world use. You might get close if you short shift everywhere and cruise at 55 on the highway. If you ride like this, you should have saved $8,000 and bought a Kawi 250r.

That was the same thing you were saying before Buell improved the mileage through updated flashes. What will you say if they improve it more?

Buellborn,

It's about 5 MPG better with the new flash--still far from manufacturer claim. That's from personal experience with my 1125r of which you obviously have none.

So you have Buell's back on this one, huh? I guess it's better than your constant negativity.

I think you contradicted yourself while trying to slam me. Such negativity.

Happy New Year!

Yep, I'm called BMC out for the BS figures they claim as MPG. Frankly, I couldn't care less what kind of MPG I get as long as they aren't dipping into the high 20's (29-30 was my pre-flash average. You would know this if you owned one.)

No vehicle I have ever owned has lived up to the manu. MPG claim. Why is this a surprise to anyone?

Drive/Ride it in the exact same way it was tested and you will exceed it. My 3.4L Monte Carlo is rated 29 Highway, I have gotten almost 38. My worst take ever was 28.

My XB12SS has broken the 70mpg barrier yet is rated at 65mpg.

I have an 08 R and I took my first real road trip since the 3rd flash last weekend. By road trip I mean just traveling versus thrashing the bike on the twisties. Charlotte to Myrtle Beach (about 185 miles). This by no means was pure highway miles as most of the roads are not major highways. Towns every 15-20 miles where the speed limit drops to 35 and you hit a stop light or 3.

Going down I averaged 43 mpg and never really got higher than 5th gear or faster than about 60. Weather was cold and rainy with heavy slow moving traffic.

Coming back the weather was nice and I watched the instant mileage and drove for economy. Speed on the open rode was about 65-68 with a 10-15 mph head wind and I averaged 47mpg for the trip. Running at 60 in sixth gear I was seeing 51-53 on the instant mileage.

Prior to the 3rd flash the best highway average I got was 38mpg. I was seeing 28-32 mpg on my commute (combined city highway). After the 3rd flash I've been seeing 34-36 on my commute.

They never published mpg specs for the 08's, but I'd say the mpg numbers are pretty much what I'd expect for my bike with 12K miles on it. I will have had it for 1 year January 8th.

On my XB12S, estimated @ 65, I was getting 39-41, or approx 61%.

On the CR, est. at 47.1 and I'm getting 27-29, or approx 60%.

Just depends on how you drive.

FWIW, Buell does NOT generate these numbers. If I am not mistaken, the EPA does.

I think the EPA ratings are actually LOWER than real life driving. I'm averaging 42mpg on my CR, and that's a mix of around town hooliganism, touring duty and track days. Right in line with the EPA figures.

To Froggy's point, my supercharged Chevy Cobalt is rated 22 city/29 hwy, and I consistantly get 27 around town and 32 on the highway. It's been as high as 38 on one trip over 600 miles.

It all comes down to driving habbits, and that doesn't mean you have to baby it or short shift the thing. In my experience, I've found that many people leave bikes (and cars) in too low of a gear most of the time, which doesn't help matters.
