Not sure if I should be concerned here. This morning before a charity ride I stopped to top off the fuel since I had no idea how much gas I had. Turned out I only needed about 1.5 gallons.

Oddly enough, after I'd FILLED the tank, when I started the bike the fuel light came on along with the "Check Engine" light. After I'd gone down the road about a mile, both lights went out. No other error diagnostic appeared in the ODIS.

Now, it seems to be doing that every time I start up the bike cold (if the engine is still warm, it doesn't happen). The temperatures here are just above freezing.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on??

How is your battery voltage when cold?

Is your battery light on the dash red when keyed on after setting cold...and prior to start?

Test the same procedure that you experienced with a cold start but before doing so...have it on a tender/charger the night before.

Curious situation and good question...

Loretta started doing the same thing about two weeks ago.
Not sure what's up, I also have a "low fuel error", I forget the DTC.

Even as warm as 60 degrees it does it.

mine did it once when it was under 600 miles, I had shut it off hot, gotten a hair cut, came out and when I started the bike, I had low fuel and check engine. I shut the bike off straight away, checked it over could find nothing and started it again, this time everything was fine. I chalked it up to me not letting the fuel pressure and diag go through the cycle before hitting the little yellow button. It has never happened again.

mine does it all the time. and i always wait for it to cycle through its pre start up.

Mine has been doing that as well and it's on the tender all the time. Seems to have started after the third reflash. I'm probably gonna take it in since winter has started here.

Yep me too, I just chaulked it up as a "whatever" and ride on.
Yes if I wait (its hard to wait, holding the reighns) no lights.

I presume, knowing plc's, that this is simply us being impatiant with wanting to ride.

I haven't had any reprecussions or anything, so unless someone from the factory says so, ride.
I'm not a computer engineer, but I THINK no worries.

Check diagnostic mode for error codes. Mine has done this a couple of times and it's throwing the following error.

IAC System Error

I forget the code number, but that's the error description.

When it's cold, my 1125r barely wants to start.

It will start, then stall really quickly. Start again. 2k rpm for 5 seconds, chatter, chatter, stall.

Engine light.

Start again, blap, blap, stall.

Start again... usually takes on the 4th try. Now that my battery is dead!

Cold mornings the bike is really, really moody.

Once it gets going, though, it settles out OK and runs normally. Engine light goes out about the time the coolant reaches 75-80 degrees F.

Just went out to the garage and put Loretta in DiagMode and hit the starter.
First try - sputter.
2nd try she started, garage is at 33 dF.
Lowfuel Sys Err P61005 is stored.
I watched CT in DM and as it got to about 60 dC, the low fuel light and the CEL came on.
I dropped out of DM and saw CT was at 159 dF.
At 161 dF the lights went out, I have about 60-70 miles on a full tank.

It's very strange. The lights seem to go out at the same time the ODIS switches from "CT COLD" to the standard Gear/Temperature display. Wonder what's going on? Any Buell mechanics have any insight??

Just started doing that this weekend, and I JUST got the bike back from it's 620 mile break-in service...

Mine also has done the stall in cold weather on the first start up try. but latly its been really cold 30deg during the day, and its been on the tender and it didnt do it last time or as i think about it anytime since the tender came into my life. im not saying the tender is the way to solve it, but it just seems its helped latly for me. not with the fuel light though

I'm not having a problem with cold weather starting. Just those crazy warning lights which seem to go out on their own once the engine is warm.

I had instrument cluster problems on my 08 and got a new 09 put on my bike and after the new one was installed I had the "Check Engine" and "Low Fuel" lights. They had to replace my fuel pump because a sensor on the fuel pump had gone out. The warning lights are no longer on.

Curioser and curioser. Went out for a ride at lunch time. Temperatures are in the high forties. Those lights never came on. Hmmmmm...

This morning it was about 25 degrees and the lights did come on. I'm picking up a pattern...

I just started mine today. It has sit, untended for over 10 days now in 20-40'F climate.

Started right up on the first hit and no lights as some have posted?

The fuel level sensor is a thermistor.
No moving parts, but it operates on TEMPERATURE change.

BTW, my DTC is "b 1005" - fuel level sender high/open.

At least on mine, I will be looking at connectors.
The colder it gets, the more metal shrinks which can cause trouble with electrical connections.

Makes since, mabie some dielectric grease would eleimate that theory od metal contact?
Mine hasent done it at all reciently. Its been high 20's everynight this week, today it was raining, so I didn't ride.

Z, that's the ticket. Mine (09 CR) if the tank is half full or less will throw a low fuel light for a minute or 2 when I first kick off, then it goes away. Interesting!

Had something different happen today, left work, and bike would not start. just cranked. Had 14 miles on the low fuel odo. Stood it upright, and boom. fired right off. FWIW!

I have had the same experience in an almost identical situation. 13 some odd miles on low fuel light and would not start on the side stand. I found it interesting because i thought the fuel pickup point was in the left side of the frame but apparently not.

08-IC bad, replaced with 09-IC same random LFL, CEL glitch in 30f to 40f ambient temp range...

I also never had a low fuel light problem until the cluster was replaced. The day after the cluster was replaced was the first time it came on too soon and has been that way since. Its at the dealer right now and they are still looking into it. I'll let you guys know what they find if anything.

This bike does not like cold weather starts.

Left outside in AR last night... got to 31F.

Took more than 6 tries to get the thing to start. All kinds of warning lights and such.

Finally started. Ran for 3-4 minutes warming up... then stalled again!

Dang this thing is a moody little beotch when it's cold!

Talked with my dealer and they ordered another cluster for my bike. This will be the third one for me. They said the fuel level sensor is good so it must be in the cluster.

Mine starts great now after the flash, even in cold weather, check your battery state of charge. The battery seems a little small for cold weather starts to me. I had lots of problems when my battery voltage was low due to the original cluster problem that I had.

Just was playing with Loretta.
Garage was at 32.7 F, she has Red Line 10w-40 inside.

First attempt, turned over a half-dozen times and sputtered once.
Second time, 3-4 turns and caught.
No fuel lights or anything unusual after that.

25 outside, gotta shower and ride to work.
