Hey gang I am a tech and looking for a little feedback from some of you.

I only see a few that I work on and do not own one so I need your input.

I have a few customers that are complaining that the instrument cluster flickers too much for them.

Does this happen to yours?

To me it appears to be the normal operation of the electrical current.

Almost like a micro strobe light effect?

If this is happening to most of you I feel its the normal operation of the cluster.

Thanks for your input in advance guys.

I recommend that you direct your question to BMC engineers...they are better equipped for your line of work.

Buzzie:

What did Tech Services say when you called?

By the way . . is it snowing in St. Louis? I'd driving through tomorrow on the way to Louisville.

In my experienced it is related to a less than fully charged battery. It happened to mine every time I got the bike back from the dealer after a re-flash. The battery was less than fully charged and the IC flickers under those conditions.

Just my observation.

The battery is only 12AH and leaving the ignition on for a while eats into the battery capacity pretty quickly.

Recommendation to dealers... Charge the battery before giving the bike back to the customer.

Disclaimer: Just my observation, I might be incorrect.

+1 on a noticeable flicker in direct relation to state of battery charge on my bike.

If battery is fully charged, I don't notice it. If battery is drained, it IS noticeable.

YMMV

Ok guys thanks....I believed it to be just normal and also in relation to battery voltage. I was just looking to see how common it may or may not have been. I actuallly replaced the original cluster per tech services and still got a minimal flicker at idle.

I am going to ( I think safely) say that this is normal and is just a minor nuisance to some but definately not a real "Problem".

Thanks for the input.

yes court it snowed but not bad sorry i didnt get back to you sooner.

Later all ride safe.

Thanks for the hard work Buzzie! Just wish it weren't so chilly here now so I could ride it more. Less than 30 degrees at midnite is too cold for me, especially on a 1/2 hour ride home.

Mine does it also and I also notice it in the headlight at night. I just figure it is the voltage regulator surging, my volt gauge also jumps around with the flickering. Its done it since day one on my bike.

So you can get a cluster replaced for flicker, but I can't for having the lens fogged from the inside from dirt and moisture and the backlight on the display half going out?

Ugh.

I got my 09 cluster on a warranty issue and the gear shift position only works in neutral on the display what parts do I need for this function to work properly?

Adoogie3, so the display will only tell you that you are in neutral? I wouldn't think that any other parts would be needed to have it work properly. I think the the cluster uses the engine RPM, and MPH to calculate which gear it is in. My bike is in the dealer right now getting some things fixed and the third cluster put in it, wonder if my new cluster will have the gear indicator now?
