B-079 September 29, 2008
2008 1125R VENT LINE, SIDESTAND SPRING AND OIL FILLER PLUG
PRODUCT PROGRAM 0504

The vent line routing on 2008 1125 models may
cause the rider to smell fuel vapors from the fuel
vent line.
The sidestand spring hook can break with use.
The amount-to-add marking was incorrect on the oil
filler plug, on some of the 2008 models.

Motorcycles Affected
All 2008 Buell 1125R model motorcycles built 10/29/07
through 7/17/08.

I'm amazed, I found this on H-Dnet before it showed up here!

4 parts in the kit -

Sidestand spring.
P-clamp
New fuel vent line
New oil plug/dipstick.

New dipstick with the proper markings.
New sidestand spring, some originals have broken - improved design/implementation.

Major part of this campaign is running a new vent line along the airbox and out the back.
The vent line ends on the left passenger-peg support bracket.

Bummer, I don't have passenger pegs on Loretta.
I like the other two fixes tho. Buell continues to amaze me.

Wonder what they will do for the CA models with charcoal canister?

Are you saying that in this config. you cannot get the fix without your passenger pegs on?

Says the kits start shipping the first week of October.
Dunno what's up for your bikes in Cali - the re-routing looks like it's for "other 49 states".
Winds up looking like y'all's routing but without a can.

Pretty straight-forward.
Fixes for 3 issues...

1) fuel smells - new vent line
2) broken kickstand springs - new design
3) confusion surrounding oil check process - new dipstick.

Not sure on that one Harlan.

Part of that fix is to drill a hole in the support arm to run the vent line thru.

I just looked at the date - it's dated for Monday the 6th.

Nice!

Very surprised that we didn't hear it first here. Maybe they are being tight lipped at BMC these days...

That kickstand problem is a new one.

Thanks God they are finally addressing oil checking nightmare.

I suspect Cali bikes will be left alone re the venting...mine seems to work well. Just a few times did it ever smell all summer--and only on the hottest days.

I find it strange that they come up with fixes that nobody here has complained about (mainly the kickstand) but they cant come up with a fix that a $hitload of people complain about.

Has anyone heard of a kickstand issue before today? I haven't.

Seems like Edmbueller in Canada has had a Couple break.
I recall 2 maybe 3 instances here about stand springs.

Fuel smell, lots of gripes.... no probs here, think I'll pass on the new hose.

Guess I can use a new dipstick too..

Turn signals? I suspect that the fix has already been done. I went thru 3 signals in a month. It has been 6 weeks and no problems.

By the way, I have had my kickstand spring/attachment break and I know of one other. Not a widespread problem.

I am not sure where you are coming from Fireman4u?

1) First flash fixed the charging problems
2) Recall for 5th gear lubrication
3) Second flash fixes rough running, fuel mileage heat and a slew of things.

An Unofficial Buell source (Court) says a fix is in the works regarding the directional signals.

The only issue a few of us has had is a leaky slave cylinder - which has been painlessly and easily remedied by dealer (speaking for myself here).

We (the 2008 1125R owners) have by no means been left in a lurch or ignored by BMC. On the other hand, I believe it is rather amazing how Buell has been able to manage an extensive and successful aftercare program.

I will go as far as to state that no other company have gone and would have gone to this extent to take care of the customers.

But what do I know. I am not even a construction worker.

Thanks for the heads up Zack!

Im just saying I personally never heard of this kickstand problem. But MANY of us know about the directional problem. Dunno, maybe its because the kickstand is an easier fix so they can get it out to us faster.

I talked to Buell 2 weeks ago about my problem. Yes, they did tell me that they are aware of the problem and that a fix is in the works.

Finally ,a dipstick that's accurate!
That's also where I routed my vent tube. After someone here kindly explained that the groove I thought would be a good spot to run the tube, was just that. For the CA bikes.

Since I didn't have the canister I used a longer tube, ran it through and along the passenger bracket. A couple small zip ties and at least no fuel on muffler if it vents.I haven't had fuel smells since.I think it's a better way to rout the tube because it took out the slight kink it had from the original position.

I've got to get my bike in for the recall, fixes, and flashes before this fix-it list grows any bigger. Glad to see these items mentioned before are finally being addressed bit by bit. Other than the stumbling and heat I've not experienced any other problems,(knock on wood).

Thanks BMC for acting on the fixes and everyone here who helped bring these problems to light.

haha in the meantime, i just stuck a spring that was about the right size on my stand and called it good... its custom- 'automatic retracting' action works great; the moment i get the bikes weight off the stand, it springs to its retracted position. i havent forgotten to kick it back and drag it on the ground since!

So where did the old fuel vent house route to? Mine came routed out by the left passenger foot rest right from the dealer.

Appears if your bike was made after 7/17/08, it has these mods from the factory.

Since the reflash, the fuel smell has been a non issue.

Haven't had any kick stand issues either, but I'd like to make sure I keep it that way with the new parts. The dipstick is a nice update.

I phoned a handful of dealers about this in the UK. They knew nothing of this - at least that's what they claim

Same old story.

That may be the case if you live in the US. Try being a loyal owner in the UK, it's not easy.
Still waiting for my clutch upgrade parts after several months - seals on 'back order'. I can't even ride mine without getting coated in Dot 4

If you get one on the campaign, cost's zero.
I assume the one in the kit is a replacement part for the 09s.

Old (08) dipstick is Q1127.1AM
I go in to work in a couple of hours.
I'll check the price, we have an 09 parts book too and see if it's different.

Zack, do the dealerships know about this new product program? Is it a kit that they have to order and/or will Buell automatically send out some of the kits like they did with the 5th gear recall?
